A's, 49'ers, Raiders, SF giants, Chargers..

Everywhere 'cept for Cali, people leave super early and hit the bars around the sporting arena to wait for the gates to open and go to the game
In california, the leave 10 minutes before the game begins and block the goddamn freeway for those of us commuting to work.
So fark 'em

The Detroit News article avoided this issue by using a screen grab from the mobile site.  Apparently Verlander has thrown a postseason-record 29 straight scoreless innings against the A's.

Anyway, go Tigers!  Please win this year, I was 6 months old the last time you won a World Series.  Could you please win one while I'm at an age that I'll remember seeing it?

Us Oakland fans refer to him as Darth Verlander.

At least in Detroit, what the fark else do we have to cheer for?

Because we're all (lucikly) not like you.

Well the two teams I was pulling for are gone. I really wanted a Pirates / A's series, for some reason. No, I'm not from Pennsyltuckey...I just thought it would be a cool series.

I'll take LA / Boston though.  That would be a good series.I don't particularly like either team: growing up as a Yankee fan in Vero Beach about 1 mile from what used to be "Dodgertown" made for some interesting neighborhood "debates" back in the late 70's. And Boston is Boston...though they're scary good  this year.

So naturally we'll be treated to the Tigers / Cardinals. Tens of fans will be ecstatic.

/born in north Jersey and became a Yankee fan before moving to FL at the tender age of five.

Because they have a capacity for joy in their lives. Probably not something you're familiar with.

I'm not super happy about having to root for Detroit - really wanted Oakland to be in it, finally, but they just couldn't get it done.

So go Tigers!

So you don't want a Tigers/Cardinals series because you think they have no fans? Yet you wanted an A's/Pirates series because...?

I lived in the Bay Area for 16 years. Live in Montana now. Went to many A's games. That whiny f*cker wouldn't last 2 weeks in Montana.

So, out of all the major final games to make it into the playoffs, the wild card games, the post seasons series of dodger/braves - cards/bucs - Red Sox/Rays, not to mention stories like the Pirates taking 2 decades to make it to the post season and the Dodgers pissing in the D-back's pool "contreversy" - and this is the one MLB story that makes it to the Main Page?

How exactly does that work?!!

I tried asking Mel Gibson, but I really couldn't understand what he was saying because he was chugging a bottle of Bacardi at the time.  Something, something, Jews, something.  So, Verlander = Sports tab and Wikipedia = Geek tab, which means Sports tab + Geek tab = Main page?

I don't know what you are smoking or drinking this early in the day, but I'd like some as well.

I do however hope your team crushes Baaahston, because Red Sox fan tears are sweet.

So, if the Cards make it past the Dodgers, would you rather see a 2006 rematch or a 2004 rematch?

It's going to be interesting to see how LA handles St. Louis this year. Kershaw is a beast, but the Cards beat him twice this year. The weather is also going to play a factor - this weekend should stay warm (although they're calling for rain), but if they come back to St. Louis, highs are going to be in the 50s starting next week.

As far as Detroit v. Boston, I gotta go with the Tigers. Not that I'd like to see the Cards play either team, but I just don't like Boston, still. ESPN would be even more annoying if they make it in.

I was 11.  1984 was an amazing season to be a baseball fan in Detroit.  That team steamrolled everybody that year, in fact there seemed to be no drama like how we Tigers fans have had to endure in recent playoff runs.   it was Manifest Destiny that team was going to win the World Series and nobody even came close to making the Tigers sweat.

Gibson homers off of Goose Gossage in the bottom of the 8th to clinch Game 5, and the World Series, for the Tigers.  Sparky is awesome in this clip.

That was a great moment, but in the bigger picture the Tigers were up 3-1 in the series and were even leading that game.  That home run put the nail in the coffin, but that team was never not in first place during the regular season or behind in a playoff series.   Nobody had to nut-up like Scherzer did in Game 4 or Verlander in the Game 5 start.

I miss the simpler times....

Is Pennsyltuckey North or South (or both) of Best Virginia?  Because there were a lot of us cheering on the Pirates this year also.

I could be accused of being one of those Johnny-come-lately fake fans for all I know about baseball and the Pirates...  But I've actually been listening to them on the radio for years, just never occurred to me they could ever suddenly start winning games.
