dittybopper: namegoeshere: The town of Truro, MA dna tested all its males to solve the 2002 rape and murder of Christa Worthington. There was no warrant; there was the insinuation that if you refused, you did it and the whole town would know that you did it. In a small, insular town where families tend to live for generations, that was enough. There were no refusals.

In looking that case up, there *WERE* a number of refusals.  And it was strictly voluntary, so it's not really a good analogy.

What if DNA on file (or submit to request) is a condition of employment?

I do that (private security) for non pat down random searches of incoming & outgoing personell where I work.

Granted, it gets awful muddy real fast if it is a state facility... but what about a private contractor?

I dont want to have to hash it out the details, but as these incidents keep popping up, I see someone pushing that angle.

Sometimes there really is a good reason to remember Emerson's adage about how "consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."

Cry me a goddamn river. She's locked up in a nuthouse for the rest of her life, and even if by some fluke she gets released--which is unlikely, since she's not only black, she's probably poor--she's too loony to ever have any quality of life or enjoy any freedom she may ever have. I'm sorry that you resent her shiatty life as some representation of how easy women have it. If she ever does gets better, the only "better" thought in her head is going to be how she killed all her kids.

Maybe if Andrea Yeager's farking husband had been paying enough attention to his wife as something other than a baby-maker, he'd have noticed that she was dangerously depressed (even told not to have any more kids because of her severe mental health issues), and that she wasn't capable of taking care of the kids. But no, he knocked her up with the fifth kid instead, she finally snapped from post-partum depression and her other issues, and killed them all. And everyone felt so bad for the man who lost all his kids. I'd love to see how he rationalizes all of that in his head, today. And the guy worked for NASA, I don't think he was some of idiot who just couldn't see what was going on. You don't miss it when your damn wife is schizophrenic.

No, you don't. But...as many kneejerk bigots as there are ready to leap up and judge males guilty of transgressions against females and, cue angelic music, mothers no less, making assertions about behavioral anomolies can buy you world crashing troubles, including CPS taking your kids, womens groups defending "the poor victim of male oppressions" rights with more reasources and money than most people can avail on their own, and or, FSM help you, wholly false charges of abuse or inversions of actual self defense where you're jailed and have to deal with this as well of all the preceding. First-hand experience notwithstanding, my father's experience with my mother, and various and several other friends and acquaintances, this is unfortunately too common an occurence. So sure, play the bigot in defence of the historically privileged "motherhood" archetype card. Nobody saw that coming.

you all seem to think the guards are the only possible culprits.  what about all the time the inmates spend together doing "activities" during the day, so as to increase their ability to interact with other humans, and one day, maybe, normalize enough to get back into society.  Any of those social gatherings was enough for her to develop feelings for another inmate and have consensual sex with that person.  It doesn't have to be a guard when they are left pretty much alone for most of the day.  Remember high school?  Like that: finding new cubby holes to have some "private time" with their new special someone.

Seems likely. A few years ago I was interviewing for an entry level position at a local state-run mental hospital. I asked the administrator what my duties would be, without missing a beat she says "keeping the patients from humping each other. That's really about it." I wouldn't have guessed it would be such a problem.

The testing ended up clearing the main suspect, the shellfish warden who had a child with the victim and was engaged in a custody dispute, and convicted a garbage man who had never even been on the radar. Why he took the test, I don't know.

This same pressure to test probably wouldn't fly here for many reasons, not the least of which being that it would be up for discussion whether a crime was committed or not. This would probably involve a hearing as to if she was competent to consent to sex, if it was claimed that the sex was consensual.

The Truro case is interesting, though.

Shellfish warden is Very Serious Business in coastal towns.

Not always, but in this case? He belonged to a super fundy church that believed a woman's job was to stay at home and make babies, as many babies as possible. Doctors warned him that his wife had severe mental illness, that she should not have more children, that post-partum depression would cause psychosis, that she needed medication. He pressured her to stop taking her anti-psychotic medication and bear another child. She did, went stark raving mad and killed all her kids. If I recall correctly, he also enlisted other members of the church including the pastor to pressure her. She did not want to, but they kept after her till she gave in.
