Hasn't he always been sorta like this? Sometimes he looks incredible...other times it's hard to believe he's a first-string quarterback

Yeah, he's having a rough year, but it's not like he's regressed or anything. The talent around him just isn't there. I'd still take him over more than half of the other starting QBs in the league (as a GM, not fantasy football).

Well, much depends on your offensive line in the NFL.  Eli is eating dirt so often I don't know how he can even show up for work each week.

Brady doesn't have anyone to throw the ball at, and he doesn't look this bad.

I think Peyton absorbed all his brother's powers/skills like Rogue from X-Men. It's the only possible explanation.

Lots of good quarterbacks have slumps. It's part of why they're good quarterbacks and not great quarterbacks.

That actually explains a lot about this season. How a guy with a fused neck can do that defies all logic.

Eli is probably the most over-rated QB in the league.  I'm not saying he sucks, but he's quite average.

He really had 1 really good year and his first superbowl run was filled with dumb luck.

2013-10-11 09:18:04 AM
My theory is that Eli will not be an NFL QB in 2 years.  He has nothing to prove and there is no way he's setting records the way his brother will.  The longer he plays, the worse he looks in comparison to Peyton.  Right now, he retires soon on the strength of 2 Superbowls and nobody can question him too much.

Brady looked pretty bad against the Bengals last week too.

But he gets to go home at night and bang the dogshiat out of Gisele, so I don't feel too bad for him.

Not the same.  Eli is leading the league in interceptions.  By a very wide margin.

Happy to see the Gnats do so poorly this season. Coughlin is lucky to have lasted so long due to his SB wins. He was run out of his last coaching gig.

2013-10-11 09:31:54 AM
Well look what he has around him.  A defense that can't stop a 6 year old, forcing him to try and force plays to keep up in points, in the 3 seconds he has before the turnstile O-line lets half the team through to sack his ass.

And he can't just hand the ball off because wilson looks like he wants to give the ball away everytime he touches it.  Not even down by contact and he slams the ball in a hissyfit.

Eli isn't amazing, and no where near as talented as his resume would lead you to believe, but god damn if the offense isn't him and cruz out there at this point.

What makes Cutler look like an elite quarterback is Brandon Marshall. And screen passes to Matt Forte.

It was said about Eli Manning on one of these threads that his interceptions were up because he didn't have a running game.

A sentence from the FTFA : "But while the Bears didn't look to impressive in their 27-21, improving to 4-2 and winning for the first time after two consecutive losses, it's fascinating to see the New York Giants sinking to new lows, as each week presents another study case of who is playing worse at the moment, Eli Manning or his offensive line. Well, you can't spell "Giants"  without I-N-T.

If you're Eli's backup right now, don't you pretty much have to be wondering "How little confidence in me can this team possibly have if they're sticking with this?" ?

2013-10-11 10:17:15 AM
*shrugs* the titans went 10-0 in 2008 and started the next year 0-6 (the sixth of which was a 59-0 blowout that could've easily gone 80-0 had the patriots not put Hoyer in)

i feel nothing from Eli & the Giants going 0-6, their version of "shiat team" would've probably blown out the 0-6 2009 Titans

i guess i'm supposed to feel bad about a New York team sucking, but i just don't

besides, super bowl host curse! it can't be reasoned with

From what I've seen this year, and notwithstanding the apologists in the booth last night, it seriously looks like it's time to stick a fork in Eli. If I were the Giants I'd be heavily scouting Teddy Bridgewater and Brett Hundley.  I kind of doubt they will, though... his pedigree, his rings and the sunk costs he represents suggest to me that they'll stick with him come hell or high water. Someone pointed out to me in the game thread last night that having a QB didn't stop the Packers from drafting Aaron Rodgers, but that was a little different -- that was more of a "we can't believe he fell to us at #25" kind of thing. I'm thinking the Giants need to really go after someone.

And also not being treated like a ragdoll this year by opposing defenses. For whatever combination of new offensive scheme, fresh OL who are actually blocking instead of turnstyling, and opposing defense quality (so far), Cutler is actually having time to throw this year instead of running for his life most of the time.

Eli needs to arrange a game against the patriots.  Even his present awfulness can't stop his kyptonite powers against Brady.  Get a confidence boost.

Yeah, his defense really had him deep in the hole when he threw two interceptions in his first five passes last night. I mean, I find it difficult to come back from a 0-0 tie.

I think that even with bad receivers, as long as you get protected pretty well, you have a better shot than what Manning is doing right now. However, it's not only about the offensive line. I think his confidence has been decimated, and his making some really bad throws, more and more every game, maybe thinking that by forcing it he'll get out of the funk
