Maybe you can put that on your resume and link to it.
But I doubt it will redeem your backward reasoning and absurdly stubborn resistance to reality and big words.

orclover: Darth_Lukecash: Troll begone.
plonk.

I thought the question was about him being President or did I misunderstand?

I dont think he's a troll, just naive.  Believe me I ran into a lot of true believers who were exactly like this in the trenches of politics (libbiest of charities, various campaigns).  People who were plenty smart but couldn't wrap their brains around elections where logic had no bearing on the outcome.  Elections are farked up.  Whats right and what are facts often have no impact on the outcome.  Its ugly.  People underestimating the other side is how we got Obama elected the first time, thank god.  I was at one of his first speeches before anybody thought Barack had any chance against Clinton and I knew he was going to win, it was obvious.  He was just that good with a crowd.  I caught one of Ted's speeches this morning and it made me grimace, cuz that man knows how to play the game too.  Cruz doesnt need your vote to win, he just needs to get all of his voters to show up and for the other side to not take it seriously.  And he had them all wide wide awake.  When he is on TV spouting insanity, he's not talking to you.

He called me a troll. I didn't call him a troll.

I'm pretty aware of how politics work.

badhatharry: Trivia Jockey: Do these people really not see why "negotiation" isn't even relevant here?  It's like calling up your credit card company after maxing out the card, demanding that they double your limit, and then complaining that they "won't negotiate" when they say no.  And then you refuse to pay the card, go to work, and feed your kids.

Or like when you refuse to pay your rent when your landlord raises the rent because he put in a new air conditioner that doesn't work. Crazy.

This.

Only the ObamaConditioner your landlord installed doesn't put out cold air, it sprays sarin gas into your apartment, and then because you couldn't sign up for healthcare because the exchanges are the most brokenest websites evar, you die alone and broke in your apartment and the government sends your family a bill to dispose of your corpse. Thanks Obama.

that was a very brief closure over a three-day holiday weekend. it barely had any effect. and it was over a budget negotiation, NOT the extraconstitutional repeal of settled law.

I hope they do. First, it's a dumb issue - SS is funded by payroll taxes, not income taxes - it has no effect on the budget, debt or deficit. Second, if the GOP goes after SS, they'll lose support from one of their staunchest voting blocks, old folks.

That's not really true. By law any excess money from SS is invested into the Treasury, which then spends the money as if it was income. Intra-governmental debt is still debt, if you assume SS won't default that is.

jayhawk88: wood0366: See, the thing that befuddles me about this entire debacle is that they're hoping to eventually have the Presidency be a Republican.

All they're doing now is just setting the groundwork for whoever is in opposition to use the same tools against them. It's not like there's any specific "You must be a Republican to use these clauses" additions to law.

This is the most bizarre thing to me as well, and proof that no one in the GOP really care about anything beyond making it through their next election.

They've had pretty good luck with voter suppression and gerrymandering.  Maybe they figure all it will take is one more win and they can make it illegal for anyone but them to hold office.

And he will happily do anything he can to make it look worse for Republicans too, no matter whom it hurts in the short term. Which is what politicians, left or right, do. Principle walked out on all sides of government a long time ago.

Maybe if they started acting like principled politicians, he wouldn't have so much of an opportunity to show the world how unprincipled they can be.

They tried to extort the President into compliance.  They tried to rewire how the political system works in this country and they did so by relying on the President being a kinder, more moral politician than they are.

He could literally order the DC police to arrest them for treasonous behavior and I'd stand up and cheer.  The GOP went too far this time.

What law were they demanding Bush repeal/defund?

"President Bush vowed to veto any CR that was not paired with a deficit reduction package, and did so when one reached his desk. The House failed to override his veto before a shutdown occurred. Congress then passed a continuing resolution with a deficit reduction package to end the shutdown."

So they were just fighting over money, in a law about money.  Nobodies entitlements were being challenged, no balance of power was threatened, the creditworthiness of the US was not put into question.  Yup.  Same thing.  Both sides are bad.  You are clownshoes.

Ah, but you are forgetting that Democrats generally do not like to be hypocrites. If the Democrats play the same game against the Republicans, the Republicans (and all the press) will cry, "Hypocrisy!" And then, historically, the Democrats back down.

Of course, I don't think the Republicans really understand how much they have enraged the Democratic base - along with a number of independents. I can see the Democrats doing the same thing and getting away with it because Republicans are no longer seen as being on the same ultimate team - the American one.

To be fair, "recorded history" in this case starts in the 1990s.  But it's hard to imagine any time in the past when the conservatives have been hated this much, and there appears to be no signs of them letting up on antagonizing voters in time to salvage the midterm elections.  Losing the House would be historic.

If they lose the House, it will be because they just weren't conservative enough.
