Are you contending the tea party isn't overwhelmingly associated with your age group (assuming you're over 45)?

"You're correct to say that the majority of my generation is conservative..."  That's what I said, right? I tend to lump Republicans and TP's together, its all one and the same to me.

Sorry, if you admitted that then I overreacted. Of course it's not all. hell, it's barely more than half. If you look at the age of people who self identify as tea party, it drops like a stone as you go south of 45. It is distinctly a boomer movement.

Unfortunately I think the caricature of the Tea Party as something dying out with its older/white/male base is overly optimistic.  The real base is anyone plugged into an echo chamber of misinformation and emotional appeals to rage.  Those older/white/males raised a whole generation of entitled kids that get all their information from Facebook.

jst3p: President Barack Obama is like a novice flier thrust into the cockpit of a 747. He's pushing buttons, flipping switches and radioing air traffic control, but nothing's happening. The plane is just slowly descending on its own, and while it may or may not crash, it at least doesn't appear to be headed to any particularly useful destination. Obama's ineffectiveness, always a hallmark of his presidency, has reached a new cruising altitude this year.

This is what freepers actually believe.

He's also a genius mastermind carrying out a carefully orchestrated plan to establish himself as the caliphate of Chicago and turn over the White House to the UN (which is nothing but a front for the communist trilateral commission Bilderbergs).

Just look at the polling on it. The tea party has a very short tail as you head to youth from 45.

Right?  That would be impossible!

Well, first Obama has to do something immoral that will shift the country's mood and make us long for a President who wraps himself in Bible verses. Bush, the family man with his cookie-baking wife, got elected because Clinton got a blowjob and his wife was one of those loud, pants-suit wearing broads. Obama got elected because of the perception (and reality) that old white men had sent the country into wars and recession. The next guy will have to be the bizarro Barack. We've tried old and white, we've given black a shot, now it'll probably be a woman's turn.

It's a ways away in political time until the campaign season, but Cruz is clearly a rising star on the Gooper side. Just like Obama was for the dems long before he ran. Too bad Cruz is so adept but spewing such cultural poison.

badhatharry: Scratch that, I'm not done with my air conditioning metaphor. We'll take in an ideological angle.

The landlord put in a centrally controlled system and took away the individual units. He charges some people double and some people nothing. The landlord and his buddies still get there own individual units though. The landlord also secretly spies on and intimidates all of the tenants so they don't get too uppity.

You have pants on your head. See, when you woke up this morning, you put on your shirt like a normal person. You put on your socks. However, when it came to your pants, you got confused. You looked at them and couldn't figure out where they went. So you took a guess. You put them on your head. You opened the fly so you can see, which was pretty smart considering, but you never really questioned what those two pieces of cloth hanging down your back were for.

When you left the house, you just ignored the people laughing and pointing at you. You also didn't question the fact that everyone else used pants to cover the bottom hald of their body. You just assumed that they had not figured out the "truth" about pants.

When you got to work, your supervisor questioned your style choice. You simply pointed to the unzipped fly and said "see." The supervisor rolled her eyes, mumbled something, and walked away.

At lunch you questioned your choice. However, you just knew in your gut that pants go on the head. All of those people in the courtyard were just not as visionary as you. You got through the 12th grade gosh darn it! You knew stuff! And things!

On the way home, a police officer pulled you over. Seeing the pants on your head, he asked you how much you had to drink. You replied "nothing officer!" He asked you to step out of the car. You failed the field sobriety test because you refused to take your pants off (the indignity) and got locked up. When they took the mug shot, they tried to take the pants off. You started screwing "Gattaca" so they left you alone.

On the way home, you once again questioned your beliefs. However, you passed a church. Taking this as a sign from god, you held firm. "See even god wants me to wear pants on my head."

The End.

Maybe if they started acting like principled politicians, he wouldn't have so much of an opportunity to show the world how unprincipled they can be.

They tried to extort the President into compliance.  They tried to rewire how the political system works in this country and they did so by relying on the President being a kinder, more moral politician than they are.

He could literally order the DC police to arrest them for treasonous behavior and I'd stand up and cheer.  The GOP went too far this time.

Ok, Ok.
I hear you. I'm north of my 40s and have never voted GOP.
Conservative is one of the most popular default ideologies in America. (Forty percent, actually, regardless of party self-identification.) I think that's a function of nostalgia for a time that never really existed except as imagined in their naive, simpler, younger minds. Boomer presidents have been a leadership disaster, Clinton the NAFTA Gobalist, Bush the Globalist and Permawar President, Obama the Globalist and Friend of Wall Street and sustainer of Bush policies.

I don't really know what to say, except that maybe people are tired of seeing one generation get all the gravy American could offer and seeing nothing left for them, so they want to burn it down.
Can't blame them for being angry.
This is the result of greedy, cruel, stupid policy coming home to roost.

I stupidly attended college and took out student loans to do so and the economy has left me stranded with nothing but debt. Personal choices, whatever. We live in a contracting economy now and people will just have to accept that we're all farked and unless we cooperate to help each other, it's over.
It's ironic that the catalyst for this nightmare is actually a government program that allows people like me to buy health insurance.

But the primary demographic of the Suicide Caucus is older, white, less educated, religious people.
Here's a good piece that describes them.

Yeah.
But stupid sells in Tea Nutter Land.

Maybe, but big words don't. No one who is going to agree with him will understand what he's saying.

Yeah. But they'll be enthralled by the way he uses the big words.
I just watched Cruz speak.
He's as good as Obama once was at playing a room.

Too bad we didn't get that version of Obama in the presidency.

EWreckedSean: Read the thread, apparently most people on the left around here still think Obama is acting out of principle, and not for political expediency.

That doesn't matter to me as long as he's right.  And on this he is...it's objectively asinine to refuse to approve CR or refuse to raise the debt ceiling in order to get the other side to undo a validly-passed and confirmed law.  Or to extract any concession, really.  The time to do that is during the negotiations over a more permanent budget.

mrshowrules: EWreckedSean: mrshowrules: EWreckedSean: Mrbogey: Obama won't blink as long as he believes Republicans will be blamed. The damage done by the brinkmanship is a non-consideration for him.

And he will happily do anything he can to make it look worse for Republicans too, no matter whom it hurts in the short term. Which is what politicians, left or right, do. Principle walked out on all sides of government a long time ago.

You know the GOP has truly failed when conservatives start trotting out the "both sides are bad" argument.

1) I'm not a conservative, I have little use for the Republican party as a general rule, I just have even less use for progressives

2) It's sad when people actually start thinking that their side has principles when we are talking about D's and R's.

scumshine: Good read. Looks like a lot of them are grouped around rural areas, at least in my state of TN. The sad thing about this is that there is nothing anyone can do about defeating these people in at the voting booth. Nate Silver says the same thing here, look at Item #3,I posted this in another thread this morning but its relevant to this thread, its depressing and I hope he's wrong...

I saw that Silver piece.
Unfortunately, those teahadi districts are safe ones.

So you're worse than a Tea Tard.
Gotcha.

HotIgneous Intruder: EWreckedSean: I love how you guys act like this is the first time something like this has happened, and that only one side does it. It's cute.

Tell me when a democratic congress did this to a republican president.
I'll wait.

urbangirl: And it's also a very common phenomenon that people tend to get more conservative as they get older. Newsflash: your generation is probably not going to be the exception so prepare yourself.

My grandparents were life long democrats. My parents were lifelong republicans. What you say is patently untrue.

Again, the faux outrage when the other guy is pulling some political shenanigans is funny.
