Did a paper on this once, and it was a hard realization...'success' has nothing to do with beauty, fairness, goodness or the other things we often strive for as humans. Did you pass on your genes? Did your offspring survive long enough to do the same?

That is ALL that is meant.


Sure, for members of solitary species. But, we ain't. Success for us is ensuring that as many of us pass on our genes. Sometimes that means taking one for the team to ensure that others succeed. Neither you, nor your genes matter in the slightest.

Remembered telling one guy who had 8 kids by 6 different women that he was 'successful' by Darwin's standards (If nothing else).

the interesting line in the article was for me the one with the blood donations. apparently they do not test just for diseases and compatibility. now they will analyses your DNA and save it for future reference. just in case. I am sure no one was asked about this.

To be fair, "related to" could mean that his brother was successful, not him.
