With all the sads this weekend, and with my upcoming blech on Monday, I thought it would be good to go out and meet some cats, so I swung by the shelter where I'd gotten Kay.  I...um....well....

Caturday, I'd like you to meet some new friends who will soon be coming to stay with me.  (They need names).

This lovely young lady wouldn't let me put her down.  I picked her up once and when I put her back down, she tried to jump right back up into my arms.  She did so several times, in fact.  She also tried to climb onto my back, and make me wear her like a scarf.

i445.photobucket.com
Her shelter name is Dakota, but I'm looking for inspiration.  My current thoughts are Lambda (Comes after K...) and  Ceridwen

And this young gentleman couldn't stay away from my girlfriend.  He snuggled and cuddled and nuzzled her, and got a bit fresh, if you ask me ;), but she was also totally taken with him, and started calling him a mama's boy.

i445.photobucket.com
His name at the shelter is Tyson, but again, I'm looking for suggestions.  I'm pondering Lancelot at the moment, but I'm not totally taken with it yet.

Welcome to the mewbies.

Several months ago, my family's youngest cat, a Siamese mix named Emperor Ming suddenly disappeared and hasn't been seen since. This 3 month old fellow appeared in Wednesday's paper in the usual Sevier County Humane Society ad.  We went to see him.  First sight was of him desperately wanting out of his cage and as he was held, he purred and "kneaded" the air.  He came home Thursday afternoon after he got fixed and hasn't stopped purring since!  No fear of the other cats, playfully chases the border collie and loves to be around people

Good news finally! I had some money left over from the donations you wonderful, wonderful Farkers and Farkettes gave me to care for Mandu so I finally got Mika in for her long overdue (by 3 years) checkup and shots. I don't know what triggered Mandu's lack of appetite and liver disease so I wanted to make sure it wasn't something that spread to her. Definitely not. She is healthy as a horse, and about the size of one too. Mika is a Maine Coon and will be six years old this coming New Years Eve. She weighs 14.5 lb which is above average for female coonies but is a perfect weight for her. Heart, lungs, teeth, eyes, ears, etc. are all in excellent health. The vet said that she has tiny teeth for a coonie, which is small comfort to me when she decides to nip at my toes :p

Last weekend (I think it was last weekend, maybe the weekend before) some of you were showing your sunset pictures. I don't think I have shared this pic with you guys. It's not a sunset, it's a sunrise. I took this at my mom's place when I was up there last year.

Here be dragons.

Hey everyone.

QJ asked me to let you all know that Mom is safely in her room at the hospital. It looks like she has a UTI...He didn't indicate much more than that.

I'm sure she's in good hands. In any case he's been at it since this morning and is one tired boy right now. He's going to get some well deserved sleep.

www.smugmug.com

/He also told me he drank a can of Pittsburgh's finest Iron City Beer (*snerk*)
//They closed down over four years ago.
///They owed the city an amazing amount of money in unpaid sewage bills and were contesting.
////Because as far as most Pittsburghers are concerned that's precisely what they sold.
////Hmmm.....I should have told him to keep that porta potty next to his bed tonight. He may need it.

I just thought of something. With so many kitties crossing the bridge this week, do you think they recognised each other from Caturday and are now comparing stories about their silly hoomins and the photos we took of them and the stories we told about them?

Cat Souls

Many will say,
Cats have no Soul.

They are not human.
They cannot have.

What if,
They do not need

A Soul?

What if they..
Are.

The most perfect reflection
Of His love for us?

Ever giving,
Forgiving.

Teacher of
Responsibility.

Mirror of
Unconditional
Love.

Comforter.
Listener.

Patient companion.

Giver of humor,
Unexpected.

Filling our hearts, beyond
Capacity.

Salve to our Soul,
Keeper of our secrets.

What if,
Cats do not have Souls,

Because they do not need them?
They are a gift,

And as such,
Return to the Giver,

Holy formed,
To bask forever,

In the Light.

My take-aways from Thumper's story:

1. Thumper is adorable, and I love how he doesn't even know he's "broken." He's just enjoying living his life to the fullest that he can. There's a lesson there for all of us.

2. NINE KITTENS rescued in ONE DAY. We must learn how to do better in our cities and towns. Those nine kittens were nine kittens too many, born into a situation that pretty much guarantees a life of suffering and want. How fortunate that they were rescued, but we must do better to help all the rest of them. TNR, people! And it goes without saying, ADOPT!

3. Kitty foster parents must be amazing people. How can you ever give up a houseful of happy jumpy little kitties? That being said, that lady's house looked like heaven on earth for kitty-cats.

4. Boo says 'hey' to everybody on Caturday. Shunra would too but she's busy snoring, with a side dish of drool.

Salem Witch: spinach gunk: How is Buddy the Wonderdog?

He's been doing quite well for the past couple days, thanks!  He seems to go through these weird cycles of doing OK for a week or two, then losing his appetite and feeling miserable for a week or two.  Last time, getting the poop moving seemed to help him a lot, so this time, we gave him the laxative after his first day without eating or pooping, instead of waiting several days for him to work things out by himself.  It seemed to do the trick.  He started eating again after only two days, no appetite stimulant needed, and the poop was also forthcoming.

Yesterday & today he's been on a total eating jag.  His current favourite food is Weruva's "Paw-lickin Chicken", which is basically human-grade canned shredded chicken breasts in brothy gravy.  It's expensive but he loves it and it's definitely healthy for him.  I can get him to eat regular dog food by spooning the gravy on top too.  Unfortunately it gives him horrific farts, but we can live with that.  It's so nice to see that boy wolf down some good food.

Last night as we ate dinner he went apeshiat for our green peas, all google-eyed and twitchy, dancing and staring and begging, I swear we each fed him at least half our peas, I should have cooked a whole extra serving just for him!

He also looks unbelievably farking comfy when he sleeps during these good phases.  Total cute overload.  Good days are good.  Let's leave it at that for now.  :)

Real Women Drink Akvavit: The Ice Queen, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It always hurts when we have to let go, but that Rainbow Bridge everyone's always talking about? That's Bifrost. (Really! Look it up!) When Heimdallr sees a cat coming across Bifrost he points the way to Fólkvangr, in the middle of which Freyja's hall Sessrúmnir sits. The cat will run past the Einherjar practicing on the battlefield of Fólkvangr, and leap through the doors of Sessrúmnir and Mandu and my Mr Marmalade and Ashley and all the other cats will be there, sitting at Freyja's feet and on her lap and running all around the hall. Lady Freyja will give Rocky words of praise for being such a good cat and tell her that for her fearlessness through all those moves and how valiantly she fought for so very many years, for her loyalty to you, her dearest friend, she can pull her chariot some time, or just watch the Einherjar or maybe just rest on her lap. She earned it, so that's where she'll be.

No, it's not just you. Large numbers of posts in a Caturday thread that have nothing to do with cats or pets are annoying many of us.

cynicalminion: that bridge isn't a one-way street...  *headBOOPs*

No, it is not. I love the old lore about Odin leaving Asgard (and you know he had to cross Bifrost unless he hitched a ride with Thor) and coming to Midgard as wanderer. There's even a Candlemass song about it, though they Christianized it. Kinda what happens when you mix very strong cultural lore with another very strong cultural lore that wants to be everyone's lore. They get each other kinda messy.

Oh! We started getting our Halloween decorations up last week, so I'm eagerly awaiting the annual Chick Tract left on the table by my front door about how I'm a witch and worshiping the devil and when I die I'll has a sad and wonder why didn't I just listen to the hate speeeeeeeeech???. I know it's the people in the house on the corner, because they're very weird, in a religious way. When the black clad middle aged Heathen skate rat who thinks blackened death metal is the BEST MUSIC EVAR thinks you're weird - you have such serious issues you may want to start using recreational resperidol and Xanax or something. Because DANG.

So I am having a sucky week. Actually, I've decided that 10/10 is a dies niefastis for me.

Had some tests done. Not normal but not gloom and doom either. Have to have more done in a week just to make sure everything is normal. That I don't care about, I'll deal. I've had to deal with worse before. What really sucks is that I had to have my "squirrel" put to sleep last night.

i1210.photobucket.com

I got Rocky when she was just a few months old, my uncle found her on the side of the road and she came to OSU with me. Our first year, we got to deal with riots and rats. Then my roommate and I said "screw this" and moved to a place off Bethel Road. Much nicer, shorter commute (which was strange because even though we lived in campus district the first year, it was quicker getting to school from our new place) and I think it was actually cheaper. This gal has gone through at least 5 moves in 11 years (if not more, I'm too lazy to count right now) but never fazed her. She was my Rocket J Squirrel

She was born with a malformed kidney and about 3 years ago, it must have decided to stop working because testing was showing only 1 functioning kidney and it too was starting to fail. Earlier this year, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism so we started on meds for that. A couple weeks ago, she started shutting down. She would no longer eat her food that her meds were mixed in. After fighting with her to take her meds, I decided it wasn't worth the war anymore. She resumed eating like normal. A few days ago, she stopped eating. I tried her favorite (Fancy Feast with the little shrimps in it) but she turned up her nose. When she wouldn't eat baby food, I knew it was time. She crossed the bridge last night, strangely enough, when Live's "Lightning Crashes" came on the radio at the vet's office.

This is the last picture I took of my squirrel.
i1210.photobucket.com

Sorry, crappy cell phone pic. That and I was crying. She went from 18# in her prime to just under 6# last night.

Miss you Rocketta J Squirrel

kimwim: Here's a serious question. How do I keep cats OUT of my back yard? I've tried everything. I have two cats. I love my cats. I love cats. I do not like cats in my yard that are not my cats. They spray my yard, house, use my gardens as their litter boxes. I've tried tobacco, the spray stuff, moth balls, everything I can think of. What can I use? There is no leash law in my town for cats. The neighbors cats roam at will. They are dumb. What can I do?

A motion activated sprinkler system?  After they hop into an instant shower a few times, I think that they would decide to avoid your yard.

First of all, let me say I love you guys-where else on earth could I get this kind of support?

No updates, last I heard Blue was at Petsmart here in NE Ohio, put there because the volunteer who takes care of those kitties is excellent with elderly kitties.  A cage is not an ideal environment, but at the rescue the fear is she would be overwhelmed by the number of other cats.  I will be heading up to Petsmart on Thursday, going to try to get a picture and see how she is doing.  Updates for sure in the next Caturday thread.

I used it to connect with Ellie.  She learned to LOVE the back scratcher.  Sometimes 'the hand' fed her.  I wanted her to know love.

Great looking new additions.
as far as names go I'm terrible at it.
Jack the dog came with the name ,he answered to it with out any flinching so he kept it.
Gremie or Gremlin was a Halloween baby.
My previous dogs. Shadow followed me everywhere.
Elsa reminded me of the lion in Born Free.
Baby was so beaten and abused everybody said "You poor Baby" so she started answering to it.
Belle Starre was a thief so I named her after a bank robber.
Wait till the get home and really check the personality. I'll bet you go thru a bunch of names before you settle on

DoomsDayAardvark: With all the sads this weekend, and with my upcoming blech on Monday, I thought it would be good to go out and meet some cats, so I swung by the shelter where I'd gotten Kay.

I stand corrected...I googled the brand and apparently a brewery in Latrobe PA brews a beer under the Iron City name (That's how much we pay attention to it around here...I thought they were gone for good.)
As long as it didn't come out of the old vats in Pittsburgh QJ may be safe.

Most of the time Jack and Gremie get along.
grmmmie.smugmug.com
But then there are days like today, when it seems like he is attached to me with velcro. I can't make a move without him being less than a foot away. Every time I turn around I bump into him, when I sit down he's right next to me. If I go to the basement he sits at the top of the stairs and whines, because he won't go down the steps to follow me. He's driving me crazy . There is nothing physically wrong with him he just gets like this sometimes/

Glad to have the day off tomorrow.  Yes, I get Columbus day off.  My former company was European based and they had to give us state side folks extra holidays.  I am with a new company now (who I used to work for 7 years ago) and they have standard holidays.  But we few folks who moved over get to keep our odd holidays for the rest of the year.  Next year we get their holidays.  (I was depressed, thinking 'work tomorrow'.  now I am not depressed about that!)

Keeping busy here on the farm, expecting lots of rain today, fleas are still out of control. I have the house and pets covered with DE, I spray them with an organic flea repellent before they go out. I even spray my socks and pant legs. The high heat and the latest rains have made the flea population explode.
I have been keeping the kitties inside, Oma Cassie is OK with this but Tom is mad, mad, mad. He has been biting me when I pet him and meowing at the doors every time I move. I tried spraying him with the flea repellent but now he thinks it is the bad kitty spray.
I've been working long days and leaving Fiona in the house with the kitties. It seems that Oma Cassie and Fiona are becoming good friends and Fiona lets the kitty sleep on her sofa. I have lots of hairy evidence that Fiona spends her days on MY sofa when I am gone and only stays on hers when I am home.

Always the same song. Not sure why he started whistling it tonight but Racer heard it, knows that it's Faust's song, and came up to look for him...she is such a sweetie. She really misses him. She doesn't get along very well with Cooper. They sleep together once in a blue moon, only if nobody is looking. The rest of the time, not very friendly with each other...

Thanks! We really miss him. The Faust song is just that little diddy that CDK made up and use to whistle to Faust. Faust always reacted that way to the song, meowing, purring, rubbing all over CDK, etc. He loved his song and didn't even mind that CDK isn't the best whistler...

.....mmmm!...KFC.
www.smugmug.com
/I'm going to eat there for the next week so I can stock up on their ketchup.
//This would be great to give out on Halloween!

Back in 1989 or 1990, we took our girls over to their cousins house on Halloween night
so everyone could see each others costumes.

I had a coat pocket full of ketchup packets my mother-in-law had just given me when we
were over at their house earlier to show the grandparents the costumes. I thought to myself...
"Self, you could unload some of this ketchup while you're here!". so I put a handful in each of the
nieces and nephews trick or treat bags.

When the in-laws told they kids it was bedtime, the kids begged to go through their bags
just one more time before bed. The sister-in-law said OK and they ran and got their bags.
"I got a Milky Way!", "I got a Hershey Kiss!", "Hey! I got ketchup!"
"Hey, me too! ", "Me too!!!"

Their mom didn't believe them, so she started looking in their bags, and sure enough they each had
12-15 packets of ketchup in each of their bags!

"What kind of low-life person would hand out ketchup to little kids on Halloween???!?!!"

Needless, to say, I got chewed out by my wife on the way back to our house and my giggling just made her madder.
She was one of those folks whose ass was so up-tight, only dogs could hear her fart.

We got her meds renewed. The first day saw quite an improvement (relative to earlier), not much change
since then. I'm getting concerned and told her that unless there's a significant improvement in the next 24
hours, I'm taking her to the hospital.

This is the first chance I've had all day to fire up the computer, since she is now in bed for the night @ 8:30pm.

SpeelChuck: My take-aways from Thumper's story:

Thumper is soooo cute! I would love to take him home with me and have two matching white cats.

I was out this morning after taking Ivan to the vet (the vet was so surprised at how well he was doing when I was in the room, because he's a complete ahole jerk when I drop him off), and saw a billboard for the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. I had never heard of it before, and I think it should be posted in all pet stores up here! Such a good service to try to help control the feral pet population.

The Catman is all healthy and vaccinated now, healed up from his mouth surgery too (removed a lump during his dental cleaning). They say he's gained some weight, but he's still under 10 lbs (9ish is his normal very healthy weight), and I got all these warnings about making sure he doesn't gain any more, like strict feedings and taking away their canned food. Which is not going to happen - I'd never get any sleep the way they bug me for it, and I can't close the bedroom door because then they'd just scratch it up and still yell outside it.I don't think half a pound is anything to worry about anyway.

Here's Ivan in his new fun place, a USPS box:

And Tola on the back of my chair now, because she never gets shown enough. She has to go to the vet tomorrow for her annual check up:

Heck, I think I captioned that silly thing years ago. (original captioned pic, same dimensions, wordpress version has "Fark thumbnail" in its comment field)

I love the old lore about Odin leaving Asgard (and you know he had to cross Bifrost unless he hitched a ride with Thor) and coming to Midgard as wanderer.

Gods wandering among mortals like that is all over the dang place. The old "Baucis and Philemon" Greek myth has Hermes and Zeus doing that and being a lot more benevolent than usual for gods in those tales. What do we have wandering among us now? Fuzzballs!

I'm so happy that Buddy the Wonderdog is doing well, the little sweetheart.

Suzy shares Buddy's love of green peas.

DoomsDayAardvark: The Ice Queen: DoomsDayAardvark: Oh gad, I need some cat time.  Today was crappy.

After several years of putting it off, I finally made a dentist appointment for today.  I hate going to the dentist, but I could no longer put it off.  So I left work early to make sure to give myself plenty of time.  Hit every damn light as it turns red.  Then as I'm about to turn onto the last street I need...*bam* road closed.  Figure I'll go around the block.  Fine plan, except for the train that decided this was a good time to pull through town (seriously...the hell?).  And then I have the appointment and, hooray!  I get to have a root canal.  So there goes another couple grand that I don't need to spend.

So Oliver kitten I posted up about a month ago, is a growing pig. I having on mush (formula and kitten food), water, and a kmr bottle supplemental and am working the litter familiarization with him.  He's had his combi-FRCVP.  So He's getting there.  His eyes are greenish for the most part.  When Not on heating pad and blanket, he's normally curled up on the wifey or I.   Mac and Mel, my other cats, do come in and sniff at him, but aren't hissing, or trying anything untoward at him, so I think we'll be good.

Regi was the first dog that was my dog right from about 8 weeks old, Ti was about 8 years when she arrived, her previous humans had a baby and couldn't cope with both.

Wall-o-text time:

Boobus needs some prayers, light, good vibes, whatever ya's got.... Our buddy has been with us for around 6.5 years, came in as a stray. When we took him for his first exam, we were told he's FIV+, so we knew up front that his odds weren't good. We were aghast when the vet asked then if we wanted him put down! With a face like ^THAT^?

Anyways, he's been healthy as a horse and happy as a clam since the day he came home with us. Until this week. Wednesday afternoon, I get a panic call from Mrs. vudutek; Boo is bleeding from his mouth. I come home thinking he lost a tooth or something, but noooooo, anything but. We rushed him to the vet. Found he has a lesion on the roof of his mouth that has apparently made contact with a blood vessel. They got the bleeding to stop, gave him antibiotics and steroid injections, and we brought him home. Took 2 hours to clean up the bllod from the carpets.
Yesterday the bleeding started again (not as bad), but back to the vets. They gave him a round of sub-q, and we got some soft food and syringe to keep him fed. Oh, did I mention he hadn't eaten or drank any water since this started Wednesday? So, we've been giving him his feedings every few hours, he's just been resting on the floor beside the bed.
This afternoon, he started bleeding again. Bad. This time, he must have ingested a large quantity. I was watching when he appeared to be heading to the litter box. Halfway there, he threw up a HUGE mass of blood / food / ?, He then collapsed in the mess, gasping for air. Off to the vet again for another round of sub-q. The only positives we have from the vet is that his temp is good, so 1) no fever) and 2) not in shock, which would show a drop in temp. Vet says to keep him comfy through the weekend, and give the steroids some more time to work. Even so, we know the writing is on the wall at this point, and we're devastated. We knew the FIV would eventually be an issue, but this was s ...

I am so sorry you and Boo are having to go through this. I know you will do what is best for the sweet boy. (((((((HUGS)))))))

They spray my yard, house, use my gardens as their litter boxes. I've tried tobacco, the spray stuff, moth balls, everything I can think of. What can I use? There is no leash law in my town for cats. The neighbors cats roam at will. They are dumb. What can I do?

I have never tried this but I have heard that citrus peel can deter kitties. Load up on grapefruit, oranges, lemon, lime, make some outrageous margaritas for yourself and place the peel around your yard.

Happy Caturday, everyone!

No new pictures of the Starbucky puppy this week, but plenty of photo evidence that Onyxia and Spitty are the epitome of so farking helpful.

First, Onyxia decides to go on a fast food binge without inviting me (not that I have the extra calories in my diet for it, but still...):

Then, she decides to "help" with the laundry:

And then Spitty takes over my desk. To the point I'm having to shove her kitty butt out of the way to use my mouse.

Hai guyz! Doing pretty well on my end, but I'm always up for pet therapy. Can't wait to go back to TX for that one November holiday so I can spoil my parents' crew. :)

Happy birthday to tigerose and hugs for The Ice Queen.

Apparently, being a stay-at-home mom is a total career crusher.  During a phone interview I had a really snotty woman actually ask me if I have EVER used a computer.  Really?  EVER???  Nooooooooo!  What are these mystical computer devices you speak of?  Then she asked me "Have you ever heard of Windows? It's a software".  I was a stay-at-home mom, not a dead head of cabbage!  The weird part is she was an HR generalist, interviewing me to be an HR generalist.  Normally, when doing a phone interview, you don't act like a condescending biatch.  The person you are interviewing may not be the person you hire, however, they may be a potential customer of the company you are representing.  Apparently, professionalism in HR went out of fashion since I last worked.
I did get her on her question of "How long is an employer required to keep employee records?"  I told her it depends on the records, which stumped her.  She asked "Just in general, how long do you keep the records?"  I told her there was no general answer as different records require different time lines.  Then I gave her an example of I-9 records, which is actually a formula based on when the employee was hired and when their employment was terminated.  She responded with "Um, I guess."  You don't guess in HR.  Guessing in HR gets your employer in trouble and you fired.

Well, meant to post this last Catuday, but did not see the flags I was looking for, so, here goes my BIG mouth. Our very fine friend Shera18 is in need of funds for his apt rent, and for Dragon's meds/testing. He would never ever ask for help, which is why I am sticking my shnozz in his bizz...i am thonking that the generous souls of Caturday could fund him for a short while. And send your good thoughts/ prayers for him to snarf up a job. I do not have a goal number. He does not want any one to feel obliged. Cause he gets the " economy sucks" thing. And he truely does not think he does anything out of the ordinary..

I say fark that shiat! I know he needs help, but would nevr, ever ask. So, Imma gonna stick my fat neck out and say, " Time to rally round and help someone we know is in need" so there, nyah!

DoomsDayAardvark: Oh gad, I need some cat time.

/sigh

I have 5 foster kittens doing their best at making me laugh. They are such bad kittens.
This is the little vulture, she sits on the back of my chair or on my back like "Whatcha doin"

sno man: Snuffybud: Jack, my picture posting helper tonight. I'm doing most of this one handed, including taking his picture!
[i380.photobucket.com image 480x640]

your Jack looks like our foster, Nyx...

as apposed to our Jack...

thx s.g. for capshun

One (well actually it's a few) big difference between Nyx and your Jack vs. our Jack is toe quantity. Our Jack is poly, he's got these HUGE mitts! This is an oldie (from last summer) but it's one of the best we've got of Jack and all his toes. That's his brother Cisco next to him, they're both wondering where that dot comes from!

Happy Caturday!!!! It's time for yet another edition of the Snuffybud Archives (let me know if I'm boring you with these)! I'm doing something a bit different this week as I'm running out of cats to feature. I've skipped Sam and Jet as I only have 1 good picture of them. They were Mrs. Snuffybud's before we met so she's got all the kitten pictures, she says she'll give them to me once she gets around to it. If you've been here over the last 16 months or so you've seen dozens of pictures of Desi, Jack and Cisco, so I'm holding off on them for at least now.

So this week I'm featuring the LOLcatting of my cats! I've pulled together every LOLcat I can find, both done by me or done by you folks. So here we go!

The perfect picture to start with....

Desi seems to be featured in a lot of these!
