(Huffington Post)   Thumper, a kitten born with a rare neurological disorder, was diagnosed as probably never going to be able to walk. He obviously did not get the message since he is now *running* around hoping for a forever home in time to enjoy Caturday   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 1253

vudutek: Sad to report that Boo crossed the bridge this morning.  Thank all of you for your prayers and support.

My heart sank. I am so, so sorry. Wish I could make it better.

To Vudutek - I'm very sorry that you lost your fur friend.  Boo will be waiting for you at Bifrost Bridge when the time comes.

Lucky let us know it was time yesterday when he couldn't keep any food down and he had difficulty getting around.  He passed over the Rainbow Bridge peacefully this morning to join his friend Buddy.

He had lost even more weight since his last vet visit and I couldn't bear to make him go through any more if it was to just prolong his life a few weeks.

Rest in peace, my little friend.

Lucky knew it was time. That said, I'm sorry.

Too many sads this week and it's only early Saturday afternoon.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: [cckate.files.wordpress.com image 460x378]

Heck, I think I captioned that silly thing years ago. (original captioned pic, same dimensions, wordpress version has "Fark thumbnail" in its comment field)

I love the old lore about Odin leaving Asgard (and you know he had to cross Bifrost unless he hitched a ride with Thor) and coming to Midgard as wanderer.

Gods wandering among mortals like that is all over the dang place. The old "Baucis and Philemon" Greek myth has Hermes and Zeus doing that and being a lot more benevolent than usual for gods in those tales. What do we have wandering among us now? Fuzzballs!

You were such a great kitty dad. You and Lucky fought the good fight and you were also intuned enough to recognize what he wanted. I am so sorry. Mandu and Rocky and Boo and Lucky can all explore the land across the Bridge together. What a band of kitties that is! Freya had better watch out for these newcomers.

lilyspad: I think Lily sat her butt on my keyboard and somehow managed to make everything smaller, including the pics, but I'm still at full page on the monitor. Anyone know how to change it back?? Damn kat.....

Try pressing Ctrl and the "plus" key to make things bigger and Ctrl and the "minus" key to make them smaller.
/might have been answered already, I'm on pg 12. ;-)

My take-aways from Thumper's story:

1. Thumper is adorable, and I love how he doesn't even know he's "broken." He's just enjoying living his life to the fullest that he can. There's a lesson there for all of us.

2. NINE KITTENS rescued in ONE DAY. We must learn how to do better in our cities and towns. Those nine kittens were nine kittens too many, born into a situation that pretty much guarantees a life of suffering and want. How fortunate that they were rescued, but we must do better to help all the rest of them. TNR, people! And it goes without saying, ADOPT!

3. Kitty foster parents must be amazing people. How can you ever give up a houseful of happy jumpy little kitties? That being said, that lady's house looked like heaven on earth for kitty-cats.

4. Boo says 'hey' to everybody on Caturday. Shunra would too but she's busy snoring, with a side dish of drool.

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: Several months ago, my family's youngest cat, a Siamese mix named Emperor Ming suddenly disappeared and hasn't been seen since. This 3 month old fellow appeared in Wednesday's paper in the usual Sevier County Humane Society ad.  We went to see him.  First sight was of him desperately wanting out of his cage and as he was held, he purred and "kneaded" the air.  He came home Thursday afternoon after he got fixed and hasn't stopped purring since!  No fear of the other cats, playfully chases the border collie and loves to be around people

[scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net image 850x398]

It sounds like he has found heaven on earth! Congratulations!

starsrift: Thx farkers, I just like seeing all the cute sometimes.

Wish my own cat was photogenic; sadly she's a tortie and blends into everything.

But, but, torties are beautiful! I personally think it is a myth that torties aren't photogenic, and would love to see a picture of your girl. Oh, and welcome!

While always hard, making the right choice at the right time helps make it a little easier over time...  Still, I'm sorry you had to make that decision today.

Cork on Fork: First Caturday thread I could bring myself to visit since I lost my guy in June (complications from feline diabetes). I forgot how awesome these were.

This is a very healing place to visit, isn't it? I am so sorry you lost your little guy. We all know how much that hurts.

domari: DoomsDayAardvark: The Ice Queen: DoomsDayAardvark: Oh gad, I need some cat time.  Today was crappy.

After several years of putting it off, I finally made a dentist appointment for today.  I hate going to the dentist, but I could no longer put it off.  So I left work early to make sure to give myself plenty of time.  Hit every damn light as it turns red.  Then as I'm about to turn onto the last street I need...*bam* road closed.  Figure I'll go around the block.  Fine plan, except for the train that decided this was a good time to pull through town (seriously...the hell?).  And then I have the appointment and, hooray!  I get to have a root canal.  So there goes another couple grand that I don't need to spend.

/sigh

Was it you that volunteers for Cozy Cat?  If so do you guys have any particularly pettable kittens at the moment?  I might need to visit some this weekend.

Too bad you aren't closer to NY. I have some new little ones you would love to visit with!!

Goldstien Sachs: This was my Caesar kitty, I lost him to cancer some months back and I dearly miss him.  He was the mouse-killingest kitty I've ever had, usually bringing us three every night, sometimes more...a regular green-house guardian.  I sure miss you Caesar kitty, I know you're giving those mice hell wherever you are.

Caesar was such a handsome guy! There is so much intelligence in that face, but you wouldn't want to meet up with him in a dark alley if you were a mouse!

Thumper is soooo cute! I would love to take him home with me and have two matching white cats.

I was out this morning after taking Ivan to the vet (the vet was so surprised at how well he was doing when I was in the room, because he's a complete ahole jerk when I drop him off), and saw a billboard for the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. I had never heard of it before, and I think it should be posted in all pet stores up here! Such a good service to try to help control the feral pet population.

The Catman is all healthy and vaccinated now, healed up from his mouth surgery too (removed a lump during his dental cleaning). They say he's gained some weight, but he's still under 10 lbs (9ish is his normal very healthy weight), and I got all these warnings about making sure he doesn't gain any more, like strict feedings and taking away their canned food. Which is not going to happen - I'd never get any sleep the way they bug me for it, and I can't close the bedroom door because then they'd just scratch it up and still yell outside it.I don't think half a pound is anything to worry about anyway.

Here's Ivan in his new fun place, a USPS box:

And Tola on the back of my chair now, because she never gets shown enough. She has to go to the vet tomorrow for her annual check up:

Sometimes it was a bit difficult to tell Buddy and Lucky apart, especially from the back.  Now they can watch things together again.

When we got Lucky, we were about to move into a new home, so for a few weeks after we got him, he had to stay in a cage to be safe from all the boxes of stuff (and Buddy).  I would sit with him every night and we'd watch a little portable TV I put on my legs.  He loved to watch baseball and kept trying to hit the baseball after it was pitched.

whereupon I would pet him, he'd become so excited he'd drool on me.  Then he'd go to the foot of the bed, then turn around and come right back.  He'd repeat this at least half a dozen times.  He was definitely a character and I miss that little nut terribly.

did you ever notice soldiers are very homoerotic in their practices? For a group that is outright violent against gays, they are pretty.... gay.
