Here's a serious question. How do I keep cats OUT of my back yard? I've tried everything. I have two cats. I love my cats. I love cats. I do not like cats in my yard that are not my cats. They spray my yard, house, use my gardens as their litter boxes. I've tried tobacco, the spray stuff, moth balls, everything I can think of. What can I use? There is no leash law in my town for cats. The neighbors cats roam at will. They are dumb. What can I do?

Well, I guess not QUITE as stupendous as you, but okay! I seem to have developed the bad back virus that has been going around lately, though. It's better today.....started to move on it's own again, which is good for me. Means there is less inflammation!

I understand this virus you speak of.  I've been giving back rubs to Mr. Coffee Table for the last week or so. Luckily, I am a swimmer, so I have strong arms for long back rubs.

A motion activated sprinkler system?  After they hop into an instant shower a few times, I think that they would decide to avoid your yard.

One (well actually it's a few) big difference between Nyx and your Jack vs. our Jack is toe quantity. Our Jack is poly, he's got these HUGE mitts! This is an oldie (from last summer) but it's one of the best we've got of Jack and all his toes. That's his brother Cisco next to him, they're both wondering where that dot comes from!

So I am having a sucky week. Actually, I've decided that 10/10 is a dies niefastis for me.

Had some tests done. Not normal but not gloom and doom either. Have to have more done in a week just to make sure everything is normal. That I don't care about, I'll deal. I've had to deal with worse before. What really sucks is that I had to have my "squirrel" put to sleep last night.

i1210.photobucket.com

I got Rocky when she was just a few months old, my uncle found her on the side of the road and she came to OSU with me. Our first year, we got to deal with riots and rats. Then my roommate and I said "screw this" and moved to a place off Bethel Road. Much nicer, shorter commute (which was strange because even though we lived in campus district the first year, it was quicker getting to school from our new place) and I think it was actually cheaper. This gal has gone through at least 5 moves in 11 years (if not more, I'm too lazy to count right now) but never fazed her. She was my Rocket J Squirrel

She was born with a malformed kidney and about 3 years ago, it must have decided to stop working because testing was showing only 1 functioning kidney and it too was starting to fail. Earlier this year, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism so we started on meds for that. A couple weeks ago, she started shutting down. She would no longer eat her food that her meds were mixed in. After fighting with her to take her meds, I decided it wasn't worth the war anymore. She resumed eating like normal. A few days ago, she stopped eating. I tried her favorite (Fancy Feast with the little shrimps in it) but she turned up her nose. When she wouldn't eat baby food, I knew it was time. She crossed the bridge last night, strangely enough, when Live's "Lightning Crashes" came on the radio at the vet's office.

This is the last picture I took of my squirrel.

Hello and Happy Caturday!  Great pictures and will vote later when it goes into that mode.  I'm very sorry to hear of all the viruses, please rest and take care and let us know how you are doing-we need you!!!  We have no animals, as they are all traveling to see friends in neighboring towns. Ekks, it will be so quiet around here. So I'll be looking for antics from your critters to fill the void!

I'm so sorry to hear about Rocky (awesome name, btw)
the right thing, even when harder, is easier to live with in the long run.

John Buck 41: Timid Goddess: kimwim: Here's a serious question.

A motion activated sprinkler system?  After they hop into an instant shower a few times, I think that they would decide to avoid your yard.

That's a REALLY good idea.

How many of us have water bottles or water guns for our house cats?  Same idea, slightly larger scale.  Not sure how you would hook a motion sensor to a sprinkler system, and it would use less water if you can activate individual sprinkler heads instead of the entire yard.  Not sure if it would work for all the neighborhood cats, I'd think outdoor cats would not mind water as much as strictly indoor cats, but there the surprise factor is still there.

I think I've seen motion activated noise gadgets to scare off birds that might help as well.
