The kids' names:

Daisyanna John
Duane John
Bobby John
Quinton John
Kekaimeas John

Replace "John" with "Smith" and see how stupid you sound, subby.  Or maybe you don't know what a last name is.

If I was DUI and I killed my wife and friggen 5 of my 6 kids, I'd ask for the death penalty and not appeal it. I can't even begin to imagine losing 5 kids and my wife due to my own stupidity.

He just gave himself an excuse to keep drinking for the rest of his life.. He'd kill someone else eventually if we don't lock him up right now and for good. Now he'll never see another drop of booze or a steering wheel.

It must be nice to have the power of knowing the past and future of this man's life based on 1 news story.

I mean, obviously it is completely impossible to rehabilitate people and teach them the error of their ways.

The only possible solution in a case like this is to destroy the man's life further than he has done by his own effort, and jail him for 90 years.

I do feel awful for him.. but I doubt he has the  inner strength to get through this type of loss without harming a multitude of other people..

FarkinNortherner: Umm. 90 years? WTF?

He did something breathtakingly stupid, but there was no intent to deprive of life. Add to that the fact he's got to live with the death of his children and I really don't understand.

They say weather wasn't a factor yet it had been raining heavily in the days prior to the crash and temps were in the low 20's to upper teens (in the Deep South no less). Also, despite losing his 5 kids and close friend he wasn't offered a plea bargain and was forced to go to trial.

I'm guessing it's tough to be Choctaw in Neshoba County, whether on trial for DUI manslaughter or otherwise.

Harris said the jury was made up of African-Americans and Caucasians, men and women. "It was a good mix and not a situation where I could say that it was a lot more of one race or the other," he said.

Were there any Choctaws on the jury?

The sentence is as appropriate as any punishment for such an act could be.

He's a murderer, plain and simple.

Nope; I'm wrong.  I re-read it.  Jim was his wife's last name.  You're right in that John was his last name.

Jeez, odd surname naming convention.

Jim married John, and Jim's children were Johns.

He was already on a life-long bender, so no excuse would be necessary. If we let him out in 30 years, he would be back to drunk-driving within a week.

/on the bright side, he did remove five drunk-drivers from the roads in the future

If you respond to someone you claim is a troll, then by definition it's not a "0/10."

In fact, if you respond at all, it's either a success (if a troll) or, more likely, you know he/she is not a troll, but rather someone with whom you disagree.
