Did anyone have trouble keeping up with who survived and who died after they gave us everyone's names? It was like a macabre version of who's on first....

haemaker: FarkinNortherner: Umm. 90 years? WTF?

He did something breathtakingly stupid, but there was no intent to deprive of life. Add to that the fact he's got to live with the death of his children and I really don't understand.

0/10 troll harder next time.

If you respond to someone you claim is a troll, then by definition it's not a "0/10."

In fact, if you respond at all, it's either a success (if a troll) or, more likely, you know he/she is not a troll, but rather someone with whom you disagree.

You can't rewrite the rules like that.  A response of "I found a troll" is not what trolls want.

Jim is female. She's the kids' mom. It's her last name. Oh, fark these people and their stupid names!

A response is what a troll wants. Any response. "I found a troll" isn't the most sought-after response, but it's preferable to being ignored.

And it wasn't a troll.

Out of which bottle do you think he'll seek counseling? Do you think he'd just move on with his life never touching the stuff? Do you really think he's learned his lesson? I'll give you $50 and my left nut this would otherwise be  the start of a life long bender for sure. He just gave himself an excuse to keep drinking for the rest of his life.. He'd kill someone else eventually if we don't lock him up right now and for good. Now he'll never see another drop of booze or a steering wheel.

I do feel awful for him.. but I doubt he has the  inner strength to get through this type of loss without harming a multitude of other people..

The water was only 10' deep too. Although it was probably freezing. That makes rescue really hard

He was already on a life-long bender, so no excuse would be necessary. If we let him out in 30 years, he would be back to drunk-driving within a week.

/on the bright side, he did remove five drunk-drivers from the roads in the future

He was too drunk to drive and then too drunk to rescue the other passengers.  Three people survived and six women and children died so if each had a woman or child in each hand then they would have all made it out alive or failing that exiting the vehicle with one woman or child and then making a return dive for the second one.  Too bad he wasn't named Kennedy then he could have just walked.

It must be nice to have the power of knowing the past and future of this man's life based on 1 news story.

I mean, obviously it is completely impossible to rehabilitate people and teach them the error of their ways.

The only possible solution in a case like this is to destroy the man's life further than he has done by his own effort, and jail him for 90 years.

I do feel awful for him.. but I doubt he has the  inner strength to get through this type of loss without harming a multitude of other people..

There's an idea.  You feel really bad about what you did so we're not going to seek satisfaction for the multiple lives you extinguished.  The children aren't worth losing years over and the rest of your family members don't get closure.  Just continue to feel bad and don't drink again, k?

One of the reasons I read fark is because it attempts to combat stupidity on the internet. Sadly, sometimes the forces of stupidity slither to this side. His last name was John, so all his children, of course, are named "John." My kids are all named Martin. It isn't a vanity issue...it's my last name. Please use a little bit more judgment in the future....I went into this thinking it was a narcisstic drunk who felt no remorse. Now it's just a sad story where the kids all have his last name...

You have the 180 degree idea about fark.  At one point fark was about pointing out the absurdities in media releases that didn't really count as news.   Then it started a meme, Not News: News: Fark: where it openly proclaimed that some crazy media content was fark worthy because it was beyond the pale.  Then it became here's your latest news aggregate feed because there's important things going on out there.  Then it was Hey, look at all this crap other news agencies are passing off as news isn't it ridiculous.  Then it became caturday and look at this article it's full of trolls.  Then it became here's your latest feed from the consumerist and beastfood or whatever.  If you can't keep up, it's not my problem.

Sorta agree (depends on his DUI history and behavior after the fact) but...

If I'm reading consecutively and suspended correctly, when exactly do they plan to lock him up?

That would be a tragedy. However, we do not expect people who commit other forms of negligent manslaughter to be permanently removed from society in fear of them doing it again.
