Should have bought an F-150.

Or a Ranger if they ever decide to bring it back. I know you sell them overseas, Ford.

They really need to start taxing the be-jesus out of fullsize pickup owners that don't need them for their job. I see way too many of these with one person in them jamming things up in downtown Portland.

/ Also watch out for us law-abiding folks on our fixed gears

I've seen a lot of interest in bringing the Ranger back in the USA.  I'm a bit surprised Ford hasn't acted on it yet, though one can hope.

I think Ford knows it will sell well and that's the problem. Sure lots of people and businesses could use the smaller Ranger to satisfy their requirements but it's less expensive with a smaller profit margin than the F-Series. I think Chevy is sorta in on it too since they also killed off the S-10. Then again, Chevy is bringing out the Colorado next year to re-enter the compact pick-up truck market, even though the Colorado rather larger than the S-10. If it sells well enough, without cannibalizing Silverado sales, Ford will probably quickly bring back the Ranger.

Bzzzt.

There's several reasons, but a stiff tariff on light truck imports is the biggest and Ford doesn't have a plant geared up to make them here, nor do they want to.

You're sort of right in that there's the F-150 competition, but it makes sense without assuming spite. They sell the T6 in places where the F-150 is unpopular because of its size so it's pretty customized to that role and they (probably rightly) don't believe there's much value in bringing the Ranger here. People here buy the F-150, they like the size, and there probably wouldn't be that many additional sales from current non-truck-buyers to justify bleeding the F-150 sales.

Remember, the prior generation Ranger wasn't a Ford truck, it was a Mazda, that's the only reason they even offered it that long. If it hadn't been for the partnership with Mazda the Ranger probably would have died in the early 90s at the end of the first generation.
You can't have a Ranger because most of your countrymen are perfectly happy with the F-150 (even though most of them also don't need anything that big).

aaaaand this is why you won't catch me buying a first model year anything.

I was under the impression that the small pickups hit CAFE numbers disproportionately hard, which was a big reason the Big 3 quit selling them. A shame, really, as I had an old Mazda B2200 that I loved. The thing was a tank. Absolutely unstoppable. And you can't find an S10, Ranger or Dakota on the used market any more, they've all been snapped up.

If they do bring it back, they need to bring a diesel engine with it.
