The Bestest: Who's Alex Baldwin?

He played that big guy on Firefly.

Who? The guy who wrote "Notes of a Native Son?"

When a Conservative celebrity runs for office: That's just what this country needs, fresh blood, a non-career politician in Washington to help right the ship

Liberal celebrity runs for office: Shut up and sing, or act, or whatever it is you do

It's called "Blowing Chris Matthews".

And if YOU can't find work, it's because you're lazy, shiftless, probably entitled, afraid to get a little dirt on you.
But when Kelsey Grammer can't find work, it's because the big bad liberal media's out to get him.

Barry Lyndon's Annuity Cheque: The Bestest: Who's Alex Baldwin?

I always get him confused for Clancy Jones, the Jurgan from The Lowlander. Or am I thinking of Vinnie Brown, that guy from Grab?

Recent exchange from his show:

"And when I really want to take the pulse of the electorate, I like to grab my Schweddy poll and massage the numbers."
"Oh yes, I like the poll too."
"Me too."
"I like to have that Shweddy poll right on the tip of my tongue, although sometimes it's too big --"
"It's a big sampling!"
"It is a big sampling."

Baldwin isn't coming into this gig cold, he's had a (pretty decent) podcast going for a while. It's called 'Here's the Thing'.

I've been trying to figure out his Fark handle for years.  I think he's actually a mod at this point.

When I first heard about this show, I laughed to myself and wondered how that could ever work.  Then someone mentioned the words "Charles Grodin" to me and I took a step back.  Then I randomly heard "Here's the Thing" on npr one night and was very impressed.  Now I think this show has the potential to follow in Grodin's, Charlie Rose's, Tom Snyder's and Larry King's footsteps as the next great non-variety talk show.

Could be a complete failure, but the ceiling for this show is high.

The Bestest: Who's Alex Baldwin?

He's the guy who supported Occupy Wall Street and biatches about the big banks while working as the spokesman one of the shadiest credit card lenders out there.  He's also known for his verbal child abuse and various and assorted physical assaults on photographers.

Umm... this entire thread is about him and his show... and the likelihood that this is all just a precursor to him running for office.  So please tell me, who exactly were you comparing to "conservative" celebrities?

Ummm...someone made a point in general about liberal entertainers versus conservative entertainers.  I don't give a rat's arse about Alec Baldwin.

Most openly, seriously liberal celebrities are dumb as bags of hammers and tend to have ugly tempers. And they have love affairs with the North Korean govt, which later comes to despise them.
