The Fox and Friends Fb page is on fire now!!  Buaahahahaahaha!!

If you went to the bank and were in debt and asked them to increase your spending limit, would it happen? Nope.

Nope they just caved in. They are 100% losers now.

They are losing their leverage! The American people do NOT WANT OBAMACARE!! There should be no wavering in commitment by the GOP!! I'm losing faith...

Good.  So are the rest of the teatards.

Fark the House GOP! No deal. End the shutdown, pass a resolution to raise the debt ceiling until November 2014 at the earliest, and then - and only then - should the President and Democrats in the House and Senate consider not ramming this debacle down the GOP's throat for the next decade! The majority of Americans want the ACA, and they want the government running properly, without it being held hostage ever few months due to yet another financial crisis brought about by the GOP's douchebaggery.

Again, no deal, no concessions at all. Ever. You do not negotiate with terrorists.

I may be in the minority here, but I'm not interested in turning the tables and punishing the republicans. I'm not in pursue and hunt mode.  I feel like I'm searching for a unicorn by wishing for a government that embraces differences and uses those different perspectives to actually create well-considered, long-term solutions to a nation of over 300 million people, and to do it with respect, even if the battles can sometimes be fierce. It might be a pipe dream, but I'm not letting go of it.

The problem is they get 6 more weeks to put the screw to the nation.

Most Americans simply want to get on with things. There is a group in power that does not. And until they stop this sh*t, you can expect more of it. And giving them 6 weeks to ramp up the crazy to do it again isn't the answer.

A noble cause, to be sure. I'm glad you can still hold onto such a hope for future bi-partisanship and an actual functional government that includes all viewpoints, even those of the Tea Party. As for me, I can't be so magnanimous and understanding, though. The GOP has become a menace to the nation, and even the world, and need to be dealt with. Yes, they control the House, and we must remember it was the American voters who put them there. But they should remember that those same voters gave the Senate and the WH to the Democrats, and that means we want all of our representative to play nice and get along, not throw a tantrum and hold the country hostage because they couldn't repeal a law they don't like.

The GOP sucks, and they need to be put in their place now.

A nice ideal, but it would require a complete purge of today's Republican establishment as well as the teabaggers to make it happen.  I'd love to see articulate, well thought out, and research-driven discussion drive national policy, but while one party has embraced such a strategy, the other has relied on scare tactics, hate mongering, and fanaticism to drive their agenda.

In doing so the GOP has managed to drag the liberals to the right, and shifted the Overton Window so far that policies the Republicans came up with themselves in the past are now considered to be extreme liberal flirtations with socialism.

What we need is the complete destruction of the extreme right.  The Blue Dogs and moderate conservatives can form the new Republican party, and the liberal democrats can bring in some of the Greens to form a new truly liberal Democratic party.

we need some Republicans.  that whole checks and balances thing, but we need to keep the ones that are willing to work with Democrats and know that the word compromise isn't a curse word.  we need to get rid of the obstructionist assholes who have taken over the party.

True.  Most of Europe does very well with a bunch of political parties, the majority of which are to the left of our Democrats.  They usually have one crazy neo-nazi right wing group, but over there the people are smart enough not to let those shiatheads have much power.

Also confirms, as Reid says, that Republican demands are a moving target.  They don't want to end the shutdown without  something, and they don't even know what that is.

Not interested.  In fact, you'll increase taxes on those making $250K if you want that short of an extension.

/Dems' position should be two-year clean CR at pre-sequester levels. You want anything else, you give up tax breaks. Simple as that.

How, though, does a government of one conservative capitalist party and one ultra-conservative ultra-capitalist party lead to that? In any way?

2013-10-10 04:05:32 PM
FB friend commented that "The government should live within it's means, like my mortgage company expects me to do."

Me:  Isn't your mortgage a massive debt you've taken on?  Maybe you should stop paying your credit card bills until you get out of debt.

2013-10-10 04:05:36 PM
Boehner told reporters on Tuesday it would be "unconditional surrender" for Republicans to re-open the government or avert default with no strings attached.

This is basically what this whole thing comes down to.  The Republicans created this giant mess themselves, a mess they knew they weren't going to win, and now they are desperate to get anything they can out of it because leaving with nothing will be seen as absolute failure.

Tough shiat assholes.  Maybe next time you should think your cunning plan through all the way.
