My buddy's kids go there. Good school.

Of the three drama teachers I had at Scottsdale Arcadia HS, two were farking students (one male teacher, one female teacher).  Nothing happened to them.

/Ahhh, the 80s.

2013-10-10 01:08:31 PM
At a public hearing of the Cave Creek Unified School District on Tuesday night, three parents and one student spoke out against the play, whereas nearly 40 students and parents spoke out in favor of Cupo and of teaching the play.

I will confidently bet that one student and three parent group thinks Obama is infringing on their rights.

Oh holy stupid. You. Are. Stupid.

Guy MaAtee, father of student Emily McAtee acknowledged that he signed the syllabus that Cupo sent home with Emily at the beginning of the year warning that some material could be found offensive, but that he didn't expect his daughter to be exposed to the themes that Albee explored in the play.

"Having signed an acknowledgement of the course curriculum is in no way authorization for material of this nature to be approved," he insisted to the school board. He did not comment as to why his daughter declined to study the less controversial script.

Stupiiiiid. You're so stupiiiiiiiid.

She was given an alternative assignment and turned it down.  To hell with her.

\recently assigned the play to a group of my college students

Amazing.

They were given multiple chances to opt out and didn't. (I sort of understand the student, peer acceptance, etc.). THEN the parents circumvented protocol.  Put the teacher back.

I am familiar with the play.  It is a bit rough and adult, but most older teenagers should be able to handle it.

Emily McAtee. She's probably president of the school's celibacy club, and proud of her virginity even though she's been giving blow-jobs to, and taking it in the ass from, half the starters on the football team.

The lone student and the parents discussed the topics of the play after watching Most Deadliest Wife-Swappers on the Learningest Channel

Well I said that my daughter was mature and stable enough to be exposed to such themes and ideas, but I actually NEVER thought you would take me up on it.

Sorry, I had just been watching an Garfunkel and Oates video, so I was already thinking about anal.
It wasn't "Loophole" either. I'd just like to nail either one of them in the keister.

Sheesh, at my high school 20 years ago or so one of the plays the drama department put on was a sex farce.  Actually performed for an audience, not read in a class.  And this was in a very red county.  I don't think there were any complaints, and if there were, they were probably told to STFU.

2013-10-10 02:42:24 PM
Is the blonde, in the picture, the teacher who was suspended?  She looks like she should be suspended in a Bombay basket.  "I'm going to fark you good, for bringing sex into the classroom, baby!  RAWR!!"

FTFA: "I never took the opportunity of the other script so that I didn't seem discriminated against," said [Emily] McAtee.

Let me get this straight: You didn't want to seem discriminated against--and then you actively claim that your delicate sensibilities are being offended? That's half a step removed from discriminating against someone else and then screaming that that other person is discriminating against you.

The school district should have simply told the "outraged" parents and one student that they are free to have an opinion and to express it, but ultimately they also have the ability to remove their children from an elective class. (In more direct language, the school district should have told the concerned citizens to stick it straight up their narrow, constricted assholes.)

GQueue: Sheesh, at my high school 20 years ago or so one of the plays the drama department put on was a sex farce.

Went to high school in the 80s and did a few plays. Played "The Sex Fiend" in one of them (that's what my character was referred to as) and had a scene where one of the female characters feints upon learning who I am. I carry her off stage, presumably to have my way with her.

That said, I remember seeing this on my Facebook feed yesterday only that article stated the teacher told his students not to say anything to their parents about it. Knowing that he offered an alternate play as well as wanted permission slips makes me think the 3 parents and 1 student are just a bunch of whiny douches.

2013-10-10 02:51:05 PM
Wow!  Someone thought they could do this play and not get suspended?  In a red state?  Seriously?

The teacher should be fired for even thinking the play was appropriate for high schoolers in the first place.

Everything else that followed is beside the original point.

Oh please. Romeo & Juliet, Julius Caesar, and Midsummer Night's Dream--and that's just Shakespeare. There are countless other plays with worse material regularly taught in high school English classes, but the vast majority of people don't have a damned problem.

And frankly, given the crap that goes on in high schools--sex, drugs, liquor, and language--a little sexual innuendo isn't going to hurt anyone. So blow it up your ass.

The Fantasticks was performed at my high school in the late 1970s. I suppose it can't be performed in high schools today, since the word "rape" is mentioned throughout the song, "It Depends On What You Pay."

Pretty much what they tried to do. Parents did an end around and got the school resource officer involved.  HR hilarity ensued.

CSB:

When I was in college, a friend of mine wrote a really good one-act play about Edward Albee meeting up with his socially-retarded friend from high school. At the end of the play, the friend shoots and kills Albee. I played the socially-retarded friend. My friend who wrote it sent a copy to Albee's agent. He got a hand-written reply from Albee several weeks later saying basically "cease and desist." Apparently he didn't like it dying in the play and gave some reason about it being illegal to write plays about currently-living people. I don't know if we ever checked into his claim, but I'm sure he would have liked the play a lot more if he'd gotten a handjob at the end of it instead of eating lead.

end CSB.
