It seems like Christians are the touchiest people.....every little thing that can't be construed as sucking them off is a total affront and insult to their belief system.

Jesus would despise 90% of His followers.

Folks like this may you realize that whole sequnece in "Talledega Nights" where Ricky Bobby only wants to pray to the cute Baby Jesus is a lot less parody and a lot more Verite  than many Christians would like to admit

You didn't know? Supply-side Jesus only really loves WASP's who have a net worth of more than $1m.

/Seriously, fark these people with a rake. They and their ilk are the reason I gave the fark up on organized religion.

I bet Jesus has a tat of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on his chest.

Because he's the original ironic hipster.

Well, I rapped upon a house
With the U.S. flag upon display
I said, "Could you help me out
I got some friends down the way"
The man says, "Get out of here
I'll tear you limb from limb"
I said, "You know they refused Jesus, too"
He said, "You're not Him
Get out of here before I break your bones
I ain't your pop"
I decided to have him arrested
And I went looking for a cop

So let me get this straight, a group of people put together a video about Jesus then payed for a billboard and web hosting services to point to and host the video. These people used their own money and time and just want to spread their love of Jesus?

"It really is as simple as it appears. We are a small group of people humbled by the love of Jesus. We are not a church. We are not selling anything. We encourage you to tell as many people as possible. That's it."

What christian on the face of the earth could possibly have a problem with this?

I went into college with doubts and struggled with my faith as a Catholic. So I took a ton of religious studies courses, to include several that focused on the Catholic Church and history of Christianity that were taught by a priest and lay Catholic. It just caused me to become an Atheist who gave money to charities instead.

/My lay Catholic professor would be all over this campaign and relishing in it
//The priest would call it blasphomy

When I lived in Texas, Jesus knocked on my door.

He told me that he was a pederast.

Or maybe Vampire Jesus (He gave His blood for you and now he wants it back!)

In any case, I don't know who that white dude is that is always portraying Jesus.  If there was a Jesus then he was not some white guy.

Biblical Jesus couldn't hold down a real job, never married, and kept company with a lot of other men. I don't know why the bootstrappy family values types would like that one either.

Prosperity gospel advocates will object, on the basis that poverty is a direct result of an immoral lifestyle, because dedication to God inevitably returns wealth.

I have a problem with a tattooed Jesus as Jews from the first century would never have tattoos.  The rest was much like what he did, the poor, destituted, drug users, mentally ill and protitutes.

2013-10-10 02:30:55 PM
Of course they're offended. Republican Jesus would never do this.

2013-10-10 02:31:40 PM
I'm no biblical scholar, but Jesus lived in the Old Testament days and was an observant Jew. Tattooing the skin in a permanent way would I think have been considered a no-no, so he wouldn't have been "inked". He would, however, have hung with people who were.

The poster stating that Jesus would hate 90 percent of the people that claim to be his followers, isn't exactly true,... in the sense that God/Jesus loves us all, without reservation, even if we are not living up to that on our part. That's the central, mind-blowing thing about God: that He has infinite capacity to love and forgive. He believes in us, even if we don't believe in Him. The hardest thing about Christianity is really, trying to live and survive by living and thinking as Jesus did and taught, devoted completely to others, in a world where everyone around you is only thinking about self-preservation and self-gratification and things not of the spirit. If you really commit to a "Christian" way of living, (Poverty, charity, forgiveness, compassion)  you also take on a lot of hardship in this culture.

Christianity had its rampage period. It's just that explosives weren't readily available during the the 1st -17th centuries.

So one unnamed resident is quoted as saying he doesn't like it.  That is it.  The pastor of a large evangelical baptist church says he thinks that it is very well done and that he likes it.

So what is the story here?

Biblical Jesus is also fictional - so how some artist or groups of artists imagine him really means next to nothing.

This is the equivalent of drawing a tramstamped Tinkerbell wearing assless chaps. Its going to offend some parents but it is no less fantasy then the original Tinkerbell as imagined by Walt Disney.

Nice trolling subby, the article actually presents balanced reactions, and the only negative one is from an unnamed commenter.

welcometofark.jpg

I thought that it was cleverly done because, basically, it's a visual of Jesus taking the sins of people and covering them and taking them from an outcast or something and giving them a new start, which is what the gospel is about," David Wilson, a senior pastor at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock, told ABC News.

Yeah, I'd say the rising from the dead healing the blind Jesus was fictional. But I'd also say there was a real Yeshua ben Yosef who was just some Gandhi type dude and was very publicly critical of the Romans' politics. They crucified a shiat-ton of people, he was just one of the more outspoken ones that made for good storytelling through the subsequent generations.

It seems like US conservatives should come up with their own religion because there is not much 'christian' about them. They have completely given up on 'love thy neighbor' and helping the poor. Maybe base it on the eternally pi$$ed off, tiny dicked god in the old testament?
