I had that problem once, too.  Damn copier repairman said he couldn't be in until the next morning.  I closed up shop that night and filed paperwork with the Secretary of State to disincorporate immediately.  Unfortunately, since the copier was down, I couldn't keep a copy of my paperwork.  Apparently the US mail didn't deliver my paperwork and the Secretary of State says my filing was ineffective.  Now I have the socialist IRS breathing down my neck saying I still owe taxes for the third quarter even though I tried to close my business.  I've been on the phone with them all week on my Obamaphone, but the hold times are egregious due to the slimdown.  I've been trying to conduct the business of winding down from a picnic table in the park near my house, but the gestapo park service put up Do Not Cross tape preventing me from entering a park I paid for with my tax dollars.  Thank god Obama passed unlimited unemployment extensions for all.

Works for me.  First day sucked but so does the big first opening of any popular item (see any MMO).  Could/should it have been handled better?  You betcha that contractor did bare minimum and pocketed a ton of cash.  They should have stood up extra servers for the first week then toned it down but they wanted to maximize their profits.

Actually it doesn't.  Important: Your account couldnt be created at this time. The system is unavailable. Jesus who the hell is running these did they ever announce?  Whoever it is needs to have their company disolved.

I bet it was running on their desktop.

You have to be in a state that Obama carried for the web site to function properly.  Red states trying to sign up will get a server time-out, which is only reasonable.  Because elections have consequences.

I have no idea if its the code, or too many people signing in, or something else.  But here is my story...and my co-worker's story. Why?  Because I know you are dying to hear it.

I could not get through last week.  It wouldn't let me complete a login name as I had to choose my security questions from its selection of questions...which I couldn't click on.  Haven't tried going back.

My co-worker tried and actually got as far as entering her information, but it demanded written proof be uploaded that she is who she says. It was confused on her prior address (it was her work address not home) so it would not let her look at insurance until it approves her identity.   She didn't put that address in.  It looked it up...like a credit reporting agency.  It is supposed to let her know when it approves her identity.  It has been a week and she's heard nothing and doesn't have anyone to call, or ask about it.

I would like to know if there are cheaper options for me.

You can't just "fix" a broken website like you would with a leaky faucet.

The only solution is to de-fund the federal government and default on our debt.

Obamacare is the most evil and destructive thing ever conceived and boy is the GOP pissed about people having a hard time accessing the web-site.

I agree and I was just curious at what the rates are if I ever decide to leave my current job.  I'm not sure whats to blame but the contractor needs fired that's for sure.

Anyone who has done a gov't contract knows what happened here.

Bid 1:  20k website, includes 1-yr of support and comprehensive data testing.
Bid 2: 15k website, includes comprehensive data testing
Bid 3: 20k website, includes 1-yr of support
Bid 4: 40k, website only, but the CEO of the company is the brother of the wife of the Congressmen awarding the contract.
Bid 5: 10k, website only
(Assuming you get that kind of selection--gov't doesn't have a lot of vendors)

Usually, the contract goes to bid 4 or 5, depending on your level of corruption.

/private software companies have been killing testing for years. Why test and delay launch when you can put a half-arsed product out there, let the customers "beta" for you, and then release patches, updates, and eventually, oooh, an expansion which creates even more revenue, is untested, so on and so forth. Gov't just learns a little slower.

I have no problem with it being called a bad website with poor design.  The issue i have is with farktards who use it to conclude that we should stop attempting to provide the insurance to the uninsured.

well, it's not Obama being a petty asshole (as everyone thinks he is), it's the GOP government of those states refusing to participate, so their citizens have to use the Federal site instead of the State run site.

On the main healthcare.gov site, go look in the bottom left that says "Plan Information for Individuals and Families". There's a giant table that you can filter on to see the plans that are offered to you and the unsubsidized rates.

Last week I got in, created a profile, filled out an application, and was able to see the plans for which I qualified. I will be saving ~300 a month under the new system.

Having been through several MMO launches, I know very well the private sector would never ever have a rocky launch with a popular online service.

UrukHaiGuyz: It's like Jesus said, "If at first you don't succeed, let all the poor people die. Also shut everything down."

When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."

"We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.

"Welp," he said. Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.

I cannot argue with that. Rick Scott and the Florida GOP have done nearly everything they could do to make this harder than it ever needed to be. Fortunately, even they could see what a nightmare it was going to be if they did not get on board and allow the ACA in Florida. It is a crappy webpage. As I said in the other FARK 'healthcare.gov is a crappy website' thread, it is crap. They say it will get fixed, I'm trusting they do.... but it is crap.

All SW development is using this model these days. If you demand perfection before release you will never release anything. hyealthcare.gov is a pretty bad roll out though. At least they have live data to actually have a decent idea of the volume they need to be ready for. It's going to be impossible for any of us to gauge just how good/bad they actually did though because derpstorm.

I know nothing about the infrastructure they used but if it was my project I would have looked at a very scalable solution. Azure or AWS seems like a great solution. Every year during open enrollment this system is going to get slammed then have low/moderate usage the rest of the year.

The democrats should say the republican engineered republican shutdown is what the exchanges are having problems. That can be their version of the truth and the republicans can have their version and the media can report on both versions and not make a judgement in the name of neutrality.

Oh wait, I still hear them biatching.

See? The Republicans  do understand technology!

They know that by turning healthcare off, waiting a little while, and turning it back on, that'll fix it.

I've spent probably 2-3 hours per day trying to run healthcare.gov (normally while doing other things)

Evenings seem to work best. Last night I finally got to the point where I could see the plans I could enroll into. Today the site is broken again.

They'll be somewhat cheaper than what I pay now. But now that I know what the plans are, I don't have to go back to the site until/unless I want to enroll. I can get detailed info direct from the insurance company websites instead. There are only three companies to pick from for me.

This will also provide the plans that are available to a person, as well as sample rates:
https://www.healthcare.gov/health-plan-information/

This will at least allow you to go to the insurers website to see the differences between the various plans.

USA Today called the launch an "inexcusable mess" and a "nightmare."

And yet some people would rather shut down the government than give people a one year delay in the mandate that forces them to deal with this "inexcusable mess" and "nightmare."  It's insane.
