Damn...what the hell happened to that bison?

These pictures are old.

UberDave: Damn...what the hell happened to that bison?

The bison was put down by rangers, it's in the text. What had happened to it is that it probably fell into a hot springs and would have died anyway from the injuries.

Hopefully the bear got a meal for its troubles.

This was a repeat and few years old when I submitted it months ago.

Someone needs to explain to subby the difference between bravery and stupidity.

What are the odds that this keeps happening to the same photographer?

I wanna say that they should have let nature take it's course since the bear couldn't catch it, but dying of infection in the woods is probably pretty awful.  Also, bison burgers are delicious.

Well, that's one bison that learned not to graze over a geyser.

We have a Ted's near the house, always thought the Bison was a little gamey and stringy.  That being said, those guys cook a mean beef burger

As a person who hasn't seen these before, thanks subby.

I can read the text dude.  I was asking what *previously* happened to the bison.  I didn't think I need to be specific as one would have asked, "what *eventually* happened to the bison" or similar.  And do you think I have a problem with it being put down?

I don't think that's their normal way of doing things, but who knows what a winter ranger in Yellowstone does? Probably whatever he wants. If it had been me, I'd have shot the poor thing. Also as several of us have already noticed, these are old photos and they got a lot of publicity when they were first published. Someone would have had a fit if that poor animal was just left to die, out there in the mean old wilderness.

I saw a story about a bison slowly drowning a hot springs some years ago (not as hot as the spring this bison fell in, obviously). Took it over a day for it to gradually lose its hold on the side of the spring and fall all the way in. It was right by the road and lots of people saw it, and even tried to help. Nothing they could do, though--the crust was too thin and nothing short of a crane or something would have helped. The park people didn't really stop the do-gooders, just warned them about falling in. But they weren't going to launch a rescue operation either.

It's the circle of Lifeeeeeeee
