"The QB is down by contact...with the #20 Chevy driven by Matt Kenseth."

It is only 'Cool' if they hold a race at the same time.

He's going to be hunting support vehicles at IndyCar tracks.

Can't be any worse than the game at Wrigley that only used one endzone.

This is a stupid idea, but people are stupid and will pay top dollar to be able to say they sat in the next zip code over, yet in the line of sight, of this football game.

That was also a terrible idea that shouldn't have happened.

Or watching hockey in a football stadium.

Virginia Tech vs Tennessee is not exactly a marquee matchup.  It would be much more interesting if it were Auburn vs Alabama or Texas vs Oklahoma, etc.

They do it every Saturday in Ann Arbor.

It's what Bruton Smith wants.

Not to defend Smith (gack) but VT v. Tenn makes by far the most sense. Bristol is just about exactly halfway between Blacksburg and Knoxville.  Both teams are mediocre right now but travel well. Bristol is utterly unlike any other sort of race track. It's not like this is someplace like Pocono or Talladega or Daytona where fans really would get dispersed over different zip codes.  Here they'll mainly be at different altitudes.

Tennessee will be much better and Tech always fields a quality team.  As far as any other teams playing at BMS would be dumb.  Locals would not care and they wouldn't even come close to selling it out

the one time I went to a race at Bristol - our seats were between turns one and two at the very top of the stands.  i could see the entire track, but it felt like we were watching it from miles away.  it will be a "cool" thing to see the first year, but the excitement will wear off when folks realize the closest hotels are in Bluefield, WV and they have to watch the game from a mile away

/NASCAR rant: Bruton Smith *way* overbuilt the place and kept trying to change the track to get better "racing" even though fans loved the action the way it was.

//ok, maybe a little
///i'll get over it. i got a greenlight on my birthday

Bristol is right between the two schools and they both travel well so it seems like a smart move. I live about half hour away and my city is split down the middle with Vols and Hokies fans.

/Auburn and Texas aren't marquee matchups for anyone

The logistics of hosting a game at a major motor speedway have not been worked out. Bristol's midfield area consists almost entirely of concrete and asphalt, two surfaces obviously impossible to play football on. The grass would have to be artificially placed, and there would have to be unprecedented safety precautions for the players.

Impossible? The Eagles played on concrete for years.

Defensive coordinators will salivate at the fact that they only have to defend one side of the field, with all the offenses only going left.

Those curious if Bristol Mtr Spdwy can pull off football, I saw them cover the track w/dirt & then reroute a river to clean it off, so yeah.

This is going to be fantastic for a while, then there won't be enough changes for the lead one game and before you know it the field will be narrowed, the end zones lengthened and the goal posts moved in, and then Bruton won't understand why nobody's going to the game anymore.
