Yeah, but this is the south and the teen was a black male.  I'm surprised the parents haven't been arrested yet and charged with obstruction of justice and the house seized under drug forfeiture laws and burned to the ground in an "accident".

This is not much of a surprise if his body were embalmed, which it probably was.  It's a standard add-on that the funeral home is kind enough to offer a grieving family and since they had deemed it an accident at first there would have been no issue.  Here is a neat bit about that procedure from a funeral home director's "confession" about standard funeral home practices.

I think I'm going to apply for the position of Georgia state medical examiner. Clearly experience or book learnin' isn't a requirement.

How in the hell does someone come up with "suffocated in a rolled up mat while reaching for a shoe" as a cause of death. I would think there would have been a pretty big incision somewhere on the body where the organs were removed and then newspaper stuffed in. How do you miss that with ANY cursory examination of the body? Or is this the case of a racist Georgia examiner that didn't want to touch a black man's body and just wrote down the first cause of death that came to mind?

What's up with the morticians in Georgia?  Does anyone remember the crematorium owner who left bodies everywhere on his property.  Like stored in random closets and under the bed and draped over trees.  And at first they tried to say his oven was broken and he was overwhelmed but then it turned out the oven worked fine and he was just super lazy.

Sure, Quincy, but where should we start investigating? Coach Zimmerman has an air-tight alibi, and the ex-principal, that Palin lady, has been laid low with moose fever for over 3 weeks. You know the captain's got the mayor breathing down his, um, neck on this thing. Whatever's going on, we've got to HURRY!

Stuffing a body with old newsprint and department-store circulars -- "like he was a garbage can," as Jacquelyn Johnson put it -- isn't exactly standard practice in forensic pathology or the mortician's trade.

Damn! Looks like I'll have to go back to using oily rags and pillow stuffing.

I'm hoping you're a troll, but in case you aren't:

During an autopsy, internal organs are removed and examined before being returned for burial. ...  GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang told CNN that after the autopsy, "the organs were placed in Johnson's body, the body was closed, then the body was released to the funeral home." ...The funeral home would not comment to CNN. But in a letter to the Johnsons' attorney, funeral home owner Antonio Harrington said his firm never received the teen's organs.

They were removed during the initial autopsy, smart one.
