Whoever wrote the sitcom should be driving a taxi on Nantucket.

That's  a shame.  We Are Men had a lot of potential.  It was a bit stilted for the first two episodes, but there was a ton of talent in that cast, it would've clicked eventually.

The cast was great. The writing sucked balls. I watched the premiere and didn't make it through the second episode.

They should be operating a low traffic pawn shop in New York.

What was in the paper bag Shaloub carried around in Galaxy Quest?

Person of Interest is dead after this season
S.H.I.E.L.D has the most annoying actors on the planet plus errors (a Black Suburban turns grey in less than 10 minutes in)

"Hostages" premise actually sounds pretty decent, but, I started watching Blacklist instead.... seems like BL got a lot more hype than Hostages.

Person of Interest was good at first, but it seems everybody became inept and there's a ghost in the machine.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is still fun to watch, but it's turning into the Colson and Skye show.

Blacklist will be good for a season. I enjoy it, but the premise won't hold up for long.

Yep. Terrible Terrible writing. I had hope because I liked the cast. I only watched the first episode, couldn't go back for more.

I got a couple of chuckles out of it, but I'm not surprised.  However, I had my money on "Dads" being cancelled first.  In fact, I thought that was going to get cancelled five minutes into the premiere.

I thought "Dads" would get cancelled before it ever aired. I have never seen commercials that made less want to watch a show. And, that is despite the fact that I like a couple of the actors.

I don't remember a paper bag but it was heavily intimated that he was a stoner. There are probably scenes that made it clearer that they cut to keep the PG rating.

drjekel_mrhyde: S.H.I.E.L.D has the most annoying actors on the planet

It's Joss Whedon. Annoying characters are all he does. I'm a fan of most of his stuff (not Rosanne) but all his characters are assholes (except River, she's perfect).

I have no idea why they were try to advertise it as a sexy show. That was the problem. You have people who look like this strutting around in the commercials and no one wants that.

There are only two new shows this season I found myself watching and enjoying - Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As long as those two stick around, I'm good.

Also still have to check out American Horror Story: Coven.

2013-10-10 07:36:14 AM
We are men looked stupid from the ads. I had hope for Dads until I saw Martin Mull, I hate that guy! I'll still give it a try. the rest of the cast looks pretty good.

Seth MacFarlane makes Fox money, why would it be cancelled?

well, maybe Coulson and The Cavalry

Surprisingly Brooklyn Nine Nine is pretty good

I only watched the first episode of S.H.I.E.L.D, it was "ok" but I'll watch the rest before I decide if it's still meh or not

I was surprised by Brooklyn Nine Nine as well, SHIELD feels like its turning into a monster of the week show which is nothing at all of what I expected.

This week's episode has given me hope for the show: focus on maybe three of the characters at a time, continuing to seed teases of some of their pasts, and a nice super-villain origin episode (without it seeming like it was heading that way).
Maybe stop reminding us Coulson died, though. We get it, and anyone who is still watching at this point has seen The Avengers.

SHIELD is, for me, right down the middle 'meh'. If it stays on, I'll probably watch it. If it gets canned, I won't lose any sleep.

It needs more superhero involvement, which I grant might be tricky. Too much, and what's the point of the Agents; too little and you risk 'deus ex machina' moments. But we've had, from what I can tell, two possible origin story beginnings so far, and I think Agents as 'mentors' to budding heroes could be interesting.

/maybe that's just me tho - always like origin stories best
//include me in the We Are Men 'cast;good:writing;bad' group

Instead of there being an ongoing story arc, each week focuses on one new threat, usually a new villain.

Lots of shows started this way and became good - Buffy, X-Files, Fringe - so I'm confident.

2013-10-10 08:25:23 AM
I'm not saying this was a good show, but TV networks rarely give any shows time to get solid footing anymore. Can you imagine if Seinfeld tried to debut in the past few years?

That, I'd prefer to create a long arc of a story but I'll reserve my judgement since they are still watchable.

It's more a preference than a critique really.

Every show along those lines tends to be a bit episodic to start with.  And I'm fine with that; Lost has poisoned the well when it comes to overarching plot.  You should be able to enjoy some resolution in every episode, and over-serialized dramas have a real bad problem of nothing being accomplished for half a season.

2013-10-10 08:31:34 AM
Dammit. I lost a bet. I had $5 that "Back in the Game" would be the first cancellation of the season.

2013-10-10 08:36:36 AM
Damn.  I had read that as "Two & A Half Men" and thought it was about time.

Did not see the show.  Have not watched any new show this year.

Person of Interest is fine.  It's holding down a really tough timeslot for CBS and keeping the ratings there higher than anything else has.  The biggest factor, though, is that it's in its third season and just one season away from 88 episode, the modern threshold for syndication.  Now, CBS isn't the production company, WB is, but they're likely to do everything they can to get it at least to 88 episodes.  The show may end up on Friday or Sunday night, but it is almost certain to get a fourth season.

Which means it gets another ten years on Ion:  The network for CBS from five years ago.

Heh, WGN America has bought the syndication rights but, yeah, your point is taken.

You are mistaking S.H.I.E.L.D. advanced technology for a visual editing error, just as many viewers mistook a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent being able to pump a double-barrel shotgun as a sound editing error.

That surprises me - it wasn't exactly intellectually stimulating, but I was entertained.

It looks like a lot of Whedon shows they are MoW shows but there will be a season long thread to tie them together like a Big Bad for the finale

It wasn't great, but it wasn't THAT horrid. I've seen worse stuff last the whole season before... I would have held out for awhile to see if the writing started to match the available talent. I'm not really mourning its loss, but if you think it's the worst thing to hit the airwaves, you must be REALLY new to television...

I'm impressed by how self assured it was right out of the gate.  Very confident, none of this feeling around in th epilot and trying to figure out characters stuff

Plus, Andre Braugher with a desert-dry wit slays me.
