I'm surprised Gallery Place wasn't the worst considering all the yahoos that go to the Verizon Center.

Also, take a look at the difference in volume between MD, DC, and VA stations.

Pocket Ninja: Vienna?

Yeah, OK.

Falls Church I can understand though.  My wife calls that place Falujah Chilupa.

Ridiculous that they put Vienna on there. That's the safest station around.

Maybe they included white-collar crime.

Yeah:

Authority released the findings of a report, which stated 59 percent of crime on the Metro is comprised of cellphone and bicycle theft.

A lot of these stations are high volume places, so there's a lot of opportunity for stealing.

U street/ Cardozo used to be "my" stop, this was back in the 1990s when 14th and U wasn't very nice.

Also, there was no station in Columbia Heights, and Columbia Heights was more dangerous then than it is now.

Anything "Heights" is going to be dangerous.

I was surprised not to see Anacostia though.

Woo-hoo! Both Bethesda and Farragut are not on the list!

2013-10-09 04:15:22 PM
Picket pocketing and snatched items I'll guess are the most common crimes? Evrey time I ride that thing I hold on to myself like a rape victim. They pack you in so tight in those death traps...

Havan't taken it yet, didn't like bart in california after I got a car either.
I guess I just don't like putting someone else in charge of my fate in pressurized tubes

According to Fallout 3, ALL D.C. Metro stations are dangerous.

Between the feral ghouls and the supermutants, only an idiot would get anywhere near the DC Metro.

I commute from Greenbelt to Fort Totten to get to Red, so I'm getting a kick out, etc.

I like how they included a a top ten most crime ridden list for Virginia so us NOVAites don't feel left out even though there are only 20 stops in the State and they are all extremely safe compared to almost anywhere in DC or MD.

My guess is that the figures for Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and Vienna include a lot of stolen bikes or things grabbed from cars in the massive car parks.

Any station is dangerous if you don't pay attention and are reckless with you belongings.

Act like you belong and people won't fark with you.

I haven't lived in the DMV since high school, but I always got a kick out of the fact that they purposely misdraw the red line to make the metro map look more expansive.

(Twinbrook and Glenmont are about 4.5 miles apart by car)

Meh, the verizon center folks just cause crowding.

It's the *pulls up on old man pants* DAMN TEENAGERS that hang around there on the platforms and around the chinatown exit escalator, especially after school, getting into fights with each other and generally being hooligans.

/Gallery Place was always pretty shiatty, especially before the mci/verizon center was built

It has to wait for Capitol South and Union Station to pull their heads out of their asses first.

\Brookland here, if I take the train instead of the bus.
\\Bunch of big new developments going in, so the area should get better.

Greenbelt to Farragut North for my year and a half in DC, never had any problems in those stations. Probably helped that I'm 6 feet tall and dressed like a hobo.

I don't know; there are worse areas to be in. Vault 87 is worse; so is the deathclaw sanctuary; and DC proper is just a giant death trap.

The metro is, pretty much, the only relatively safe way through. Is safe, like keeping a tiger in the bathroom; as opposed to the rest of the city. Going into the city proper is kind of like smacking a TRex in the balls and running away.

It's a system adopted from the London Underground as a way to show the stations relative to their order on the line and connections to other lines in a neat and easy to read manner for journey planning as opposed to their geographic locations, as that starts to look like spaghetti.

The London one certainly leads to a lot of confused tourists when they try to use it to navigate above ground.

That said - given the sides of DC are 10 miles long, it doesn't look like Twinbrook and Glenmont are much more than 5 miles apart (if the map was geographically accurate).

I dunno, the deathclaw sanctuary is pretty easy if you're above level 15 or so. I cleared it out with a flamer this weekend, and got that sweet, sweet unique Gatling laser.

The super mutant overlords at GNR Plaza kicked my ass this morning, so YMMV.

Rockville representing!

I'm surprised that Shady Grove isn't there. I see plenty of shady- looking people there.

And let's list the most dangerous Metro/Rideon stops, in which case Lakeforest Mall is a winner.

No Wheaton on there? Kind of surprised.

2013-10-09 05:00:17 PM
I used to do the Wheaton to Farragut North trip for a while. I only like it because I rode off peak hours, but that sucked on the way home in the winter when it got dark early. Work wants me to transfer back downtown. I told them I would for a metric assload of money since I would be wasting more per week on the metro than I would gas. Plus I dont live walking distance to the metro anymore, so I would have to pay for a lot space which are a LOT or take the "stinky" bus as my roomate puts it.

Shady Grove's crime is all in the neighborhood. The King Farm apartment complexes across the street constantly are dealing with vagrants and hooligans who ride to the end of the line, then go across the street and do their shiat. Lots of break-ins, theft, homeless dudes squatting in the fitness centers, etc. etc.

My brother saw a girl have a "seizure" or something and fall and hit her head badly at L'Enfant on monday this week. He said several people were hitting the emergency buttons on the platform but no one came for about ten minutes. Some people stayed to help but my brother ended up leaving before anyone came.

Vienna has a big parking garages.  With that many cars, you're bound to have a few vehicle break-ins.

/parked there every day for 4 years, never had a problem.

In China if you help someone, they can sue you for support.
