(Some Guy)   What do "pope", "stab" and "c*nt" have in common? They're all answers given by participants in a human behavior experiment at DragonCon 2013   (blog.thisvsthatshow.com) divider line 24

Come on, Drew does the best he can.

This "study" proves nothing. I would guess the conversations had before sitting the people down are far more influential than if the participants were angry or annoyed.

When people are upset, it influences their thinking?
I call B.S.  That doesn't seem at all right.

That's not a "human behavior experiment" any more than randomly recording conversations in a public space is a "human behavior experiment."

Probably thought up by some first year sociology student.

Yeah, I pretty much gave all the angry answers.  Guess f*#%ing around with these stupid projects has driven me up a wall.

I remember a "study" from an undergrad class where test subjects were either given $100 or asked to help someone move boxes and then asked a series of questions. The people given the $100 all responded more optimistically to the questions, and this someone disproved the idea of free will.

Or, it just prose that people are more optimistic when they're in a good mood, who'd have thunk it?

Does this study have anything to do with hot women in scandalously small costumes?

No

I'll be on my way then.

It costs more than a cent to stab the pope. (?)

What do I win?

I intentionally pluged in "nonviolent" words because I knew I was being primed...

Ended up with "Wile".  Sat there for a second going "WTF is up with that?"  For whatever reason, that was the only word that came to me.

2013-10-09 02:11:13 PM
Can't what?

2013-10-09 02:15:33 PM
"Nearly 7% more people in the primed group spelled "hit" using the letters "h_t". 30% of people from BOTH groups spelled "hot" and 30% spelled "hat."

This experiment proves nothing - the majority of the people in both groups still chose words that were neutral.

"Conversely, in the control group, 81% of the participants spelled out "love" given the letters  "lo_e" compared to 76% of the primed group. And, 14% of the control group spelled out "pope" given the letters "_ope" compared to just 2.5% of the group primed to be pissed and angry"

Where does "pope" fit in?  He makes me pretty angry.

After taking the test I think I seem like a really normal, nice guy.

Can't ...stop hearing voices/
Rope ...to ties up, um, something
Hot ...feeling burning in my brian
Pinch ...myself three times before washing my hands twice
Rope ...yeah, I said it twice.
Stars. ...swirling around my head when I hear those voices
Meat ...that's all we humans are... meat.
Film...at 11.
Love ...maybe my plan will finally get Betty White to love me.
Wipe ...my fingerprints off.

Agreed.

One sign is 'forgetting' to report the sample size. Are the differences real, or are they likely due to random chance? Can't tell with the data reported.
