Langston: She's not even attacking the whole of hip-hop, just saying that she doesn't agree with the focus on material possessions that come up on some songs by some hip-hop artists. That's not the same as racism. Lots of hip-hop artists have complained about that exact same thing, and conspicuous consumption has been a target of popular culture plenty of times.There's plenty of legitimate racism out there. Don't cheapen it by squinting until you can misinterpret it into some element of popular culture. It's a disservice to victims of real racism.
