They had an average defense last year with about 30 starters out. He completely overachieved with what he was given to work with.

So naturally Jerry Jones canned him

Would be interesting to see if keeping Rob might've meant the Broncos don't score 51 points the other day, lol.

Opponents make a big difference as well, bend don't break only works against weak teams and eventually kills your chances with upper level teams.

I think not having to use players that Jerrah picked may have a lot to do with it.

That might make moresome sense if this was a bend-dont-break defense. They are killing it with 3 and outs. What team are you talking about?

Well, alot of it has to do with the Saints giving up more yardage then anyone EVER last year and they have looked more then just "functional" so far.

Thru 5 games, based on yardage:

Falcons   8th ranked offense, had 2 TOs
Bucs    31st offense, had 2 TOs
Caridnals  30th offense, 2 Tos
Dolphins   28th offense, 4 TOs
Bears   11th offense, had 1 TO

Seems to me they are outplaying the teams on their sechdule on D. Which is something last years saints couldn't do. He has helped make them respectable along with the return of the Payton.

A top 15 D with a top 5 offense isn't the worst mix to win a Superbowl. Especially if you get homefield advantage.

I guess if you put a lot of value into things like total yardage, you would be happy.

However, I would be more much more happy that I have the 2nd best   offense in the NFL that is able to overcome a defense that allows an opposing an AYPA of 9.4

man, I feel for Tony Gonzalez this year.  The falcons suck, are going nowhere, and he is literally mugged coming off the line.  I'd like to see him traded to a contender...or, retire, become unrestricted and sign with someone who has a chance.

Wasn't the majority of that 9.4 off of the bomb Chicago caught in garbage time?  I think the game was already 26-10 when it happened.  By the time Chicago adjusted their offensive scheme and started getting yards, the game was all but over.

Well according to what I read they are 4th in the league points against.

"Well who have they played?"

They have played their schedule. That's who. And have come out ranked 4th in the league points against.

That's not something they could have dreamnt of last year.

/fyi, the year they won the SB they were ranked 20th points against
//another fyi, I don;t even LIKE the Saints, I'm just answering your questions with facts

This. When Ryan was hired in NOLA, I said oh no here we go again. I forgot he had to use Jerrah's handpicked chumps.

I have thus far been pleasantly surprised by the Saints' D.

I'm a pats fan.  And I'm dreading sunday.  After that stinker against the bengals, I fear its going to be a thorough whooping this weekend.  Once gronk is up to full speed, vereen is back, and amendola is at form, they stand a real chance.  Staying ahead of the dolphins long enough to make the playoffs is going to be the challenge this year.  Sounds weird to say the dolphins are the competition.. but sweeping them is a guaranteed division title this year.

2013-10-09 04:56:09 PM
You can't get an accurate idea of "well they faced the blabla ranked offense/defense" less than a third of the way into the season. The sample size is too small.

The teams who played the Broncos, for example, will have a lower ranked defense until it's able to average out over a larger sample.

The Cowboys couldn't make the Chargers punt past the first quarter the week before, so they really are quite terrible

I think it'll be a stressful game on both sides. Though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to watching some Bradyface on the sidelines.
