Private Catholic school, private bus company. You made the choice, dude. If he wants them to add enough buses to give him the service he wants, the price he pays will be higher.

Possible solutions:

1) Drive her
2) Carpool
3) Pay the parent of another student living nearby to drive her
4) Find a school possibly farther away but with shorter bus times
5) Buy her a bike

This is new?, sounds like my rural bus route growing up, on the bus a 5:50am for and arrived at school at 8:00am.

Barely did any homework at home, all on the bus ride.

One of my friends in high school lived across the street, literally, from Lakewood High School in St. Pete.  He (black) was bussed an hour each morning to Osceola High School because Osceola was too white.  What a great system.

No, the Catholic school board is not considered "private" in Ontario.  It's a separate school board, but they still have to let in anyone who lives in the area who is eligible to attend (lots of non-Catholics attend the Catholic schools here).

James Attridge, said Deslauriers' claims "are exaggerated slightly.'' He said the length of time from their stop (around the corner from their house) to school is "about an hour and 45 minutes each way.''

Oh, well I am sorry farking sorry I got that wrong, James. yeah, it does't sound nearly as bad when you put it that way.

It's called rounding, you fark. He's not saying it's two hours when it's really 37 minutes. Rounding 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours instead is pretty damn reasonable for most applications. It's a bus ride, not how long a Mars oribiter needs to burn before touchdown.

So far, his work schedule has allowed him make the approximate 12-minute drive to drop Janelle off at school and pick her up - except for four occasions when she took the bus home, a two-hour ride.

You actually biatched to the newspaper about this? Carpool, have your kid rid a bike to school, or give her cab fare for those occasions when you can't pick her up/drop her off...

My oldest niece went to Catholic schools from K-12. When she was 26 I suggested that since her history with men (and her taste in them) was so abysmal she should try "crossing the street." So instead of being date-raped again, getting knocked up "accidentally," catching another STD (or HIV or Hep C), getting hooked on something she can't afford "legitimately," etc. etc. etc., now at 29 she's engaged to a lovely lesbian lawyer whose worst fault IMHO is that she's too "normal" for me to get along with effortlessly.

At least they moved to the suburbs when her younger sister was a toddler so her parents could justify sending her to (whiter safer better) public schools instead. Now she's a 17 year old who's learning to take care of herself; it's such a relief for biting my tongue and palming my face to be only an occasional thing.

(Guess which niece is more likely to be so absorbed in her iPhone she doesn't notice a guy waving a .45 in her face. You get two chances.)

Sounds like the crap that has been going on in Louisville, KY for almost 40 years. They've been trying to put a student assignment plan in place the tries to make sure schools aren't either too black or too white in the mistaken belief that that was the over-riding factor is educational success. Each new plan winds up gatting challenged in court, and each new bussing schedule leads to such major screw-ups that people have betting pools on the latest time that students finally make it home on the first day of school.

I missed getting bussed through a couple of fortunate coincidences, and walked to the elementary and high schools that I could see from my front porch.
Proximity to those schools was why my parents bought that house.

I feel her pain. My middle school was located on the far side of a bridge that was built poorly in the 1960's and didn't have any pedestrian capacity, so I was expected to ride the bus to school every day. Alas, my house was near the bridge but at the beginning of the bus route, so I'd have to get on the bus first and ride deep into the the neighborhood picking up kids.

So, I missed the bus one day. I rode my badass mountain bike up and over that dilapidated bridge and got to school ahead of the bus. And I got in trouble. farking bullies in school management. Another student might have broke my nose, but the bullies who tried to break my spirit were in the administration.

/The bridge is still due to fall over soon.
