Also apparent is that Matt Schaub is the only man in Texas without any guns.  Not to say that the bullets would hit their intended receivers.

Partial blame for this dipshiattery should go to the Houston Cronicle. They ran a story about a house for sale near Schaub's. Looks like its been pulled and that's most likely how they found it.

Christ, Texans fans. Haven't we been embarrassed on national T.V. enough?

He is in the second year of a five-year, $66.15 million contract that he signed last season.

That's a lot of money to stand in one spot and throw the ball 6 yards downfield to the other team once a game.

This is the sort of story that reinforces the concept many athletes have, that they need to carry a gun with them in case something happens.  I'm not saying I approve or disapprove, but with all the talk of the gun culture among athletes, I can understand why news like this leads them to that conclusion.

/No excuse in that behavior, ever - you buying a hat or a jersey entitles you to nothing but that hat or jersey.

One cannot throw a stick at a radio here in houston and not catch the endless discussion on this... *yawn*

What I found interesting (from the original article) was: "Schaub and the Texans contacted NFL Security which asked for assistance from the Houston Police Department after the incident, "

So, instead of calling the police himself, Schaub calls the Texans, who call the NFL, who call HPD. What the hell?
no wonder they didn't catch the guy...

But, but the Eagles fans once booed Santa Claus....

Our local radio idiots brought this up the morning of Eagles-KC game. They spoke with glee how badly the fans would react poorly to Andy Reid's return and the retirement of Donovan's number. The next morning they noted that the fans didn't boo Reid or Donovan, but they had to bring up the booing of Santa Claus.

"When the NFL began considering expansion to Texas, Marshall (Redskins owner) strongly opposed the move, as he had enjoyed a monopoly in the South for three decades (apart from the one-year appearance of the Dallas Texans in 1952). Potential owner Clint Murchison, who was trying to bring the NFL to Dallas, bought the rights to "Hail to the Redskins" from a disgruntled Breeskin (wrote HTTR) and threatened to prevent Marshall from playing it at games. Marshall agreed to back Murchison's bid, Murchison gave him back the rights to the song, and the Dallas Cowboys were born."

people keep using the plural "Fans" in this incident.  FTFA it would appear "Fan" is more appropriate.  He's probably not even a fan.  I would guess it's some numbskull from New Jersey who lost a lot of money betting on the game.

There's lots of confusion about that. As far as I can figure from the local sports radio shows (which is
consistent w/ the initial report - linked to in TFA), there was one or more that pulled into his
driveway and "berated him," and there was another person that "took pictures of his family."
The contradiction in the HPD's twitter account (seriously?!?) is not making things clearer either...

/if one or more though, the lot of them are pitiful.

Yeah!  And those fans from Philly, Boston, and New York everyone likes to complain about?  And those murderous LA Dodger and SF Giants fans?  And those "English" football hooligans?  And those soccer referees?  And Al Qaeda and the Taliban?  Just numbskulls from Jersey who lost a bet.

That's an interesting story/link. I know DC borders on Virginia, but I always considered it a "northern" city based on its proximity to Maryland. I never considered it as a "southern" city, even if it was only promoted as such for the football team. Also because it was the union's capital during the civil war. Weird.

Also: Marshall aggressively marketed his Redskins as the South's team and built a significant fan base there; this was part of the rationale behind Marshall's ban on. So the original owner was racist to blacks too?

/thanks for the answer, mafiageek1980

On the other side is Maryland, which was part of the north during the Civil War but only because Lincoln jailed all of the state's leaders before they could decide what side to take.  The state's song, "Maryland, my Maryland" is about defending Maryland from the Union and refers to Lincoln as 'the despot' and 'the tyrant' and the union as 'northern scum'

Amazingly I was never taught this during my Maryland history unit in third grade.

TheShavingofOccam123: I wonder how much money that "fan" had bet on the games...

The saddest part of all of this is that I suspect that (s)he/they had nothing monetary on the line
here - just a fragile identity that is utterly too dependent on the success of a sports team...
I mean, after all they have to drive around town all day with that big Texans sticker on their
rear-view, wearing their texans shirt, etc... How embarrassing it must be to be them...
I actually get a little depressed when I think about people like this - They are out there. No skin
in the game whatsoever, yet they let a sports team's W/L result affect their day... It's sad.

2013-10-09 08:17:03 PM
Ever wonder why cowboy fans would never try this?

Look up the amount of weapon charges the players average over the last 20 years :)
