I saw it as when men get married it's because they really want to be with the person while women marry to have a wedding and be married.

Or maybe the divorce isn't your fault.  It's hers.

Sociologists believe the lower rates of 'divorces' among gay men may reflect a trend of women committing sooner and having higher expectations for a relationship.

you're being silly.  You absolutley know now that of the 50% divorce rate within our "straighty" community, more often than not women are to blame.  For years and years they get away with more money and possessions and custody and all that, but really, this is 100% proof that while both men and women have their flaws, women are terrible, terrible people.

This isn't actually news. In heterosexual relationships, women initiate divorce more than men. We've known this for decades.

It stands to reason then that two women together would have a higher rate of divorce than two men together.

Also, biatches be kray-kray.

I think this will change over time - a lot of the early civil union/gay marriage situations were, to be honest, political statements.

I know a few lesbian couples who ran off to other states to get married when that became an option, but they broke up pretty quickly after it started becoming common, or once the novelty wore off. There were a couple that were of the "we just met, let's get married because we CAN!" sort.

Not a recipe for long term relationships...

On the other hand, there are a few long-term gay couples I know who are waiting for the noise to die down before making it official, so people won't think they're impulsive...

It's actually more in the mid 20's, the 50% thing is a widely accepted myth for whatever reason.

But still, it's better.

Hell no. My primary reason for supporting gay marriage is that I'm a decent human being who thinks everyone should enjoy basic human rights.

But coming in a close second is the fact that I really, really want to watch Gay Divorce Court.

I pity lesbians and envy gay men. Women are irrational, emotional and nuttier than squirrel shiat on a regular day. I can't imagine how much passive agressive crazy that lesbians have to deal with when their cycles sync up and are both PMSing.

Give it time.  Right now I'd think most gay marriages involve people who really want to get married, to the extent of traveling to another state or country to get it done (where necessary).  Once it's universally legal, they'll be able to make spontaneous and rash decisions like the rest of us, leading to more divorces.  Also, since the institution is relatively new, most gay marriages haven't had enough time to go bad yet.

It also not fair to compare since ghey marriage is a new phenomenon.  Let's wait 30 years or so and then compare.  Many straight marriages end after 10 or 20 years.

Actually, in raw numbers it is pretty close to 50%.

Marriage rate: 6.8 per 1,000 total population
Divorce rate: 3.6 per 1,000 population (44 reporting States and D.C.)

Source: CDC

Now, that being said, IIRC it's shown that over half of  first marriages end, and do so within the first few years.  Later marriages tend to last much longer and divorce is less common.

But back to FarkSnark:  So women are finally realizing just how big of biatches they really are?

Actually, the majority of first time marriages don't end in divorce.  It's the people who get married, 3, 4, or even 5 times that drive that "50%" statistic.  Something close to 2/3rds of first marriages that don't end in a death make it to their 30th anniversary.

2013-10-09 10:14:52 AM
The reason is because one straight year = three gay years = 7.6 lesbian years.

It's because of the people who divorce and remarry several times.  My wife and I could stay together and my sister and her husband can stay together.  But we have one friend that's divorced and married twice, now the "divorce rate" is 50%

It is actually closer to 25% or 30%, when you take into account the habitual marry-ers and couples that divorce and get back together once every couple of years. (Know a couple of those too)

2013-10-09 10:18:29 AM
Yeah--big surprise.

I've been at the same job for 17 years and had over 700 co-workers pass through the doors.  80% of the divorces were initiated by women who felt "unfulfilled", which is code for outhouse-rat-insane and unable to bear the stresses of normal life.

Thank goodness I'm a decent enough guy to make sure this never happens to me.  Plus, my wife knows if she gets squirrelly I'll do everything I can to make her life miserable.  And my parents have millions of dollars to assist in the carnage.

Kuroshin: Marriage rate: 6.8 per 1,000 total population
Divorce rate: 3.6 per 1,000 population (44 reporting States and D.C.)

And do see why drawing a conclusion from those two stats is erroneous? Pulling apart the 50% divorce rate canard is a standard exercise in intro to stats classes. The proper way to calculate it is to analyze marriages over time, and account for repeat offenders.

I have a friend that was in a civil union with another woman for about 3 years.  They adopted a child and seemed very happy.  She had to do a 6 month internship across country and when she came back her partner had left her for a man.  She told her that she was probably never "really" gay.  Now her former partner is married and it is a big mess with their child.

I guess the moral of the story is make sure that you are actually gay before you enter a same-sex civil union or marriage.

Well, yeah.  But who causes the death in those 2/3rds?  And the divorces in that 1/3rd?

2013-10-09 10:24:57 AM
Not a big surprise, considering that women generally are the ones to initiate the divorce. Add another woman to the mix and guess what.

2013-10-09 10:30:51 AM
Women initiate 70%+ of all divorces to begin with so I wouldn't be surprised that this stays consistent when it comes to female sodomites either.  The fact is that pretty much all women are bisexual and the only ones that date women exclusively are the ugly ones.

Naw that's just typical bullshiat. Her partner just wanted to leave her for another person. She was gay enough to have lots of hot lesbian sex in the first place after all.
