I have dogs.  Nothing gets past their attention. They don't need batteries, either.

GBB: You don't have to get a ladder or chair to dismiss false alarms; just wave at it.

There is this wonderful technology that you can use to push the button without needing a chair or a ladder:

Seriously, the dismiss button is the diameter of a baseball anymore, just poke it with a stick/broom handle.

In my old place they had installed a single cheapo battery operated smoke alarm. If I even LOOKED at a frying pan it would go off and it didn't help that instead of a range hood fan the kitchen had a crummy bathroom fan in the ceiling that was clogged. So I had to yank out the battery any time I want some delicious bacon or a hamburger.

New place has a nice system where if the alarm goes off there are little panels in every room with a button on them to silence it but I it hasn't gone off once. It's pretty slick.

You will acknowledge my cool story. You will acknowledge it and LOVE it.

I'll sign up if the texts will actually tell me what's wrong.

As it is, I just get a bunch of beeps that don't tell me wat do. Do I need to replace the battery? Is the sensor defective? Was there an alarm that somebody else put into "sleep" mode for 20 minutes by pressing the button? TELL ME.

And it always happens at flippin' 2AM.

Unless of course, you decided to ignore that text message because you are at the middle of a meeting or something.

Because easy to ignore subtlety is what you want in an early warning system?

it's a good idea, especially if there are large periods of time when no one is in the house.
