Well Segways never took off they way they were promised to. I guess it was that extra wheel that was holding them back.

If this was Portland I wouldn't blink an eye...

I wonder if gun violence will become hipster there as well with muskets & canons...

Huh.  Looks kinda neat.  Might be fun.

FTFA: the unicycle, which costs $1,795

Nope.

Electric unicycle sounds oxymoronic to me, like an electric ukulele.

My musket only fires artisanal small-batch shot. The Man says we can't technically call it organic, even though lead is in the same group as carbon, but they're well know for oppressing the poor metals. I'm sure you would like to sign this petition to get it reclassified?

FTFA: "Goebel drew plenty of stares as he glided down Michigan Avenue this week, perched on the seat with arms outstretched for balance."

Me thinks you are rushing this to market too quickly Mr. Goebel.  I wouldn't even say you reached the 80% point yet.  Yes, there is a competitor and you want to grab market share, but this thing is not quite ready and you will lose in the long run based on first perceptions.

My better half worked for inventist for a month or so...the solowheel was fun, but there is a learning curve...little kids pick it up in about 15 minutes, but after trying for a cumulative 3 hours or so over the course of a few weeks I still was kinda shaky. I needed probably one more session to get it down when she lost the job because the owner went a bit nuts. They are working on a new version but he keeps firing engineers so who knows when it will come out. Once you learn to ride they are a nice urban commuting option. Everyone seems to expect them to be priced like toys though

Inventist is based in Portland so there you have it. Never seen one in the wild here though...

Electric unicycles with hungry grizzly bears riding them throughout Chicago is what I want to see.  Very hungry grizzly bears.

For what it's worth, here is a somewhat bizarre music video by some Portland hipster band that extensively features the Inventist Solowheel. The individual doing the tricks at around 2:20 is the Inventist guy's daughter, and most likely the most proficient rider in the world.

Wow.  That was both really stupid and reasonably entertaining, and kinda made me want one of those unicycle thingies and a Tron-inspired cat suit.  Not for $1,795, though.

Don't get me wrong...they sell a ton of these things.  They are just all in Europe.
