I have Tourettes and my tics cause the exact effects attributed to both "iSlouch" and "iGrind."

So I guess I'm way ahead of the game here.

People who use Android smartphones don't feel the need to spend every waking minute showing off their phones to others. iCan see why they called it the iSlouch.

And it's even worse with my swelled head of smugness from my iPhone 5S.

This is why I hang upside down from the ceiling while I surf on my phone.

That's why I hold my phone in one hand and fap religiously with the other... everything evens out.

/OHHHHHHH  Hallelujah - and off to find a towel.

I'm fine spending 8 hours a day slouched over my PC at work, thank you very much.

It's not just the phone.
Even people with iPads/tablets, because you end up with them flat(ish) on your lap and leaning over them.
A long time back I said that chiropractors must be making a killing.

I'm reading this thread while lying on my back on a loveseat with my head on the armrest and my chin tucked into my chest and the laptop approximately on my crotch while leaning slightly to the left...so getting a kick etc.

But they do feel the need to constantly bore us with their envy of iPhone owners.

Nope, sorry, you have herpes.

Oh, that's ridiculous.  It's the same position when you're sitting and reading a book in your lap.

What?

....a book.  You know, a book.  Printed pages made of trees, ink, stories inside them, libraries, bookstores....geez, I'm not THAT old, am I?

Doctor Guillotine developed a procedure for this very condition to this years ago.

I am very envious of iPhone users around Vancouver, those Asian kids are the only ones who can pull off wearing plush Pokemon backpacks and hoodies with kitty ears at age 20. And these are the dudes.

Here's some tips (no pun intended)

I was going to say "I'm sure that's what they said about books back in the day." but I see it has already been covered.

My dad has a degenerative disk in his neck attributed to having to look down at machine beds and displays in his CNC machine shop for the past 35 years.

iSlouch will be fixed with Google Glass, which will cause it's own ocular issues.

2013-10-09 02:16:41 AM
Pretty sure iGrind has nothing to do with teeth...

2013-10-09 02:35:24 AM
Of far more worth would be the ability to stop slapping a lowercase 'i' in front of everything in order to appear edgy or relevant...

frakkin' iTards...

Sod the slouch... watching these dimbulbs wander aimlessly into obstacles/traffic/each other is remarkably entertaining...  not so much when they're behind the wheel...

For what it's worth, a while ago I tried adjusting the way I hold my phone so that I don't have to look down at it, but I discovered that there tends to be a lot more screen glare when I hold the phone nearly vertical, rendering the screen unreadable.  Might not be as much of an issue if the screen weren't so glossy, but it seems that matte screens went extinct some time in the late 2000's.

I also tried experimenting with a few Android apps that do speech synthesis, so that I wouldn't have to look down so often when I use my phone, and quickly found myself frustrated that there doesn't seem to be any easy way to redirect audio from the built-in speaker to a Bluetooth headset--apparently an app has to written to explicitly support Bluetooth audio.  Kind of a deal-breaker if e.g. I want to have the phone read aloud the latest headlines while I'm waiting for a train, but not force everyone else on the platform to share the experience.

"Since experts said it can take decades to feel the consequences of "iSlouch" or "iGrind," the best thing you can do is to limit the time you and your children use your smartphones and tablets, and head outside."

Rather than teach them correct posture so they can avoid this sort of problem in every area of life not just using a damn phone?

Damn your victorian ethics agenda

I guess it's too late for me. Too many years of sitting at the computer have given me a 24/7 stiff neck. If I tilt my head all the way either sideways or up and down it hurts so I do it on purpose to "work the pain out". It works for a little while but the pain always comes back. TFA didn't say what to do if you already have pain resulting from poor posture.

Practice good posture till the pain goes away.  Sometimes pain is like the warning light in your car, fix it and the light goes away.

/Props up iPhone while reading, and leans back in the chair
//types while sitting straight in chair, lesson learned from old lady teaching typing class
