floor: JayCab: At least Scherzer isn't going in game 5.

Verlander will go. What a consolation prize.

He's been more hittable this year than Scherzer has. And assuming Colon doesn't give up a bad first inning like in game 5, it should come down to bullpens again. This game notwithstanding, I'll still take that battle.

idesofmarch: What saddens me the most is that this series going 5 games is probably only going to benefit Boston :(

I'm really hoping for an Oakland/Pittsburgh WS, but I feel it slipping away.

This is not a good way to go back to Oakland at all. This feels like every other goddamn ALDS for Oakland since 2000. F*ck.

Boston could easily go 5 games as well.  We'll find out soon, anyways.

I'm not super confident with Hellickson on the mound, but you're right, we'll see.

Main thing for me is it's at the Trop.  In that place, nothing is assured.

Whatever happens, I have enjoyed this series A's fans. Was in Oakland last Friday and you all have been great.

was there that night as well.  baseball on a football field is weird.

i mean, i have faith Benoit can give up less than four runs, but - if you have a starter in there for two innings, why not three?  it's a throwing day now, right?

I went to Oakland for Game 5 last year, and have a ticket for Game 5 this year.  Last year, the A's fans around me were nothing but class, so I'm hoping that holds true again on Thursday.

Missed the game to an early flight but every fan was respectful and fun to talk ball with.

Whatever happens, this has been a very entertaining series - I've enjoyed the heck out of it.

The A's just find the most frustrating ways to loose. Take the lead then just piss it away. The worst team they have taken to the post season was the only one to make the ALCS.

I would like it if they shifted the camera to that hot brunette after every pitch now.

Whyyyy are you swinging at the first pitch against a wild pitcher?

/Also, why the fark is Cespedes going to second worth the risk?

Well they're not going to make this easy, huh?

The second baseman was away from the bag and the 1B was making to atempt to hold him.

Depending on how the defense is playing the runner, sometimes it's not a risk at all. Fielder not holding him on the bag, middle infielders too far away from the bag. Might as well take the base if they're giving it away for free.

I was listening to the radio last night and some guy gets paid to say things like "The playoffs just aren't as interesting this year because the Yankees aren't in it. These teams don't make me run to the TV to watch them like New York does"

2013-10-08 08:36:36 PM
ha.  Scherzer gets the win.

What's to keep Leyland from starting Scherzer on Thursday? Wouldn't that be kind of ballsy? Dude's a horse.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him available in the bullpen again, although after his performance tonight he might not be the best option.

Scherzer on a day's rest after two innings might be better than Verlander, whose fastball has been very hittable this year.

/just a thought

The Tigers need long haul pitching for game 5, and you're not going to expect a guy who just threw 40 pitches to go out and pitch 6 or 7 in 2 days.

Even if he could do it (and really, he probably could), it would put a lot of strain on his arm and his emotional state. If they advance then they're going to want to use him sooner rather than later in the ALCS (in order to possibly use him twice if it goes to 6 or 7), and he's going to need a lot left in the tanks for that

At any rate, when I'm driving overnight on Thursday, a game 5 on XM will go a ways toward making the trip feel shorter.

Joe Maddon will no longer suffer Hellickson's bullshiat.
