Better to die free than.....

2013-10-08 01:56:30 PM
This happened in Oregon several years ago. Same result. The only surviving minks were the ones that went back to their cages.

So the "animal liberators" fire bombed the ranch the next time around...

Eagle snacks.

Maybe ecoweenies play favorites.   This is like free food handouts to large predators.

Sorry. Uh, sorry. I, I, I got a little agitated. The thought of, uh, escape had crossed my mind, and then suddenly - suddenly - suddenly I felt like bending the farking bars back, and ripping out the goddamn window frames and eating them - yes, EATING them! Leaping, leaping, leaping! Colonics for everyone! All right, you dumbasses! I'm a mental patient. I'm SUPPOSED to act out! Wait'll you morons find out who I am! My father's gonna be really upset, and when my father gets upset, the ground SHAKES! My father is God! I worship my father!

As God is my witness, I thought minks could hunt..

2013-10-08 02:10:01 PM
12 monkeys?

2013-10-08 02:10:28 PM
This is the left's lunatic fringe.

Notice how they're not running anything.

Ecoterrorists ? these animals are just property, it was just vandalism and burglary, histronicmitter.

I initially misread the first word of the headline as "Economists", and assumed the headline to be an odd metaphor.

That's a good thing.

The minks won't become an invasive species and cause more problems.

2013-10-08 02:12:59 PM
Morons. These animals are domesticated. Not wild, not feral, DOMESTICATED. They need human intervention to survive. Same idiocy that has people releasing horses into the wild when they can no longer feed them, so they can die slowly from starvation, dehydration, and exposure.

Somebody ought to release these wankers into South Central, West Oakland, or Five Points and see how they friggin adapt.

The lack of any mention of coconuts probably should have set you straight.

And those that don't die and figure out how to survive will cause very much havoc on local ecosystem. Nice going ecoterrorists.

Minks are native to North America, actually.  They have about the same ranges as red foxes, iirc.

They're dying because hunting in mammals is primarily a learned behavior during the juvenile phase of their development, if you raise a mammal in captivity it won't know how to function in the local wild areas.

Some will and even one is one too many.

Animals that exist for our food, clothing, and/or pleasure are better off.

First, because they wouldn't exist otherwise, and second, they just aren't very good at existing otherwise.

If they were American Minks, then it is impossible for them to become an invasive species, seeing as minks already live naturally in that area and most all of the U.S.

A woman's husband dies. She has him cremated and puts the ashes in a silver urn on the mantle. One day she comes home wearing a floor length mink coat and a ten carat diamond ring. She empties his ashes out onto a silver platter and starts to talk to him: "Sidney. Sidney, remember all those years I asked you for a mink coat and you never bought me one? Well look, Sidney. With the insurance money I bought this coat.  Isn't it beautiful? And Sidney, remember all those years I asked you for a diamond ring and you never bought me one? Well look at this ring I bought, Sidney. Isn't it gorgeous? And Sidney, remember all those years you asked me for a blow job?.... PPHHHHBBBLGGHHHTTT."

Ecosystems change all the time. Stuff adapts or dies. No big deal.

Don't cry for the dodos.

Again, minks are an unaltered wild species native to North America.  They are not a domesticated species.

I'm just saying, they were alive in cages. Probably well fed, too. Now they're dead in the wild.

The lesson is clear.

Well, yeah, releasing agricultural animals into the wild is wasteful, stupid, and benefits no one.

I'm just saying that a population of minks would, in fact, exist if we didn't breed them.

I consider Ecoterrorists to be more the types that would spike trees, a deadly practice, not release animals.

Meh, they revel in the destruction of property or assets of anyone they don't agree with. This fits their mold perfectly.

While there's admittedly a large overlap with the "killing animals is murder" crowd and the "humans are an invasive species" one, they're not always one in the same.

And this particular bunch is most likely very upset about perpetrating a little mink holocaust. At least, they should be. They'll probably hand-wave it by thinking "well, they would have died anyway- at least they were free".

Are you terrified by the release of these mink?

I hate mink farms. As a ferret owner, I have a special place in my heart for all things weasely (except the Weasleys incidentally), and would like nothing better that to see all mink farms close. But seriously ecoterrorists: what the fark did you think was going to happen? Born and raised in captivity typically equals dead in the wild. Farking morons.

Ferrets are nature's tweakers.

Do mink farms do anything with all that mink meat?

/delicious mink meat *Homer drooling sound*

what the hell is an "Ecoterrorist"? Who are they terrorifying? Who are they threatening, with what, and how is it tangential to the cause?

/no opinion on this except lets keep terrorists for the real terrorists, like the House.

It took me like three minutes to work out that you were talking about a kid's book and not actual weasels.  Though, yeah, actually weasels are a bunch of farkin' pricks, they're the drunken Irish stereotypes of the mustelids.  Kill things for fun, like cats.

BMulligan: Ferrets are nature's tweakers.

Part of me wants to argue about this, because tweakers suck, but then I think about how they act.... Though I am luck in that none of my ferrets are very thieving. They do spaz quite a bit though....

2013-10-08 03:16:21 PM

sendtodave: Don't cry for the dodos.

Bzzt!  Wrong answer.

The extinction of the dodo also means extinction for all the species of trees that used the dodos intestinal tract to make their seeds viable.  A number of species of trees are now dying of old age and there is nothing that can be down to perpetuate them.  Fewer or no trees you get soil erosion, soil erosion means grasses and shrubs get wiped out.  shiats all connected dude.

Cats don't kill things for fun, they kill them for practice.

sobriquet by any other name: Who are they terrorifying? Who are they threatening, with what, and how is it tangential to the cause?

1 and 2) owners of buisnesses or folks they don't agree with
3) typically with fire, vandalisim and/or loss of property
4) You will have to ask them about this one.  I am sure that responses vary.
