(Fox News)   On the first day of the shutdown, the Federal government gave PBS $445 million. So, let's see...doing some quick math here...7 days of shutdown, carry the 3...by my estimates, we've now funded PBS over $3 trillion and there's still 51 WEEKS LEFT   (foxnews.com) divider line 105

FTA: "CPB provides the propaganda that anesthetizes the public, preventing people from laying blame for failed policies at the door of the government " said Matthew Vadum, senior editor at the Capital Research Center. "Keeping a distance by incorporating these entities affords the government plausible deniability when the two nonprofits mess up." "

Hahahahahaha. I don't even know what to say. It's like bizzaro land. I mean, yeah, CPB gets government funding and you don't. Suck it up with your boot straps. If "news" sites like Fark gave even half the time that they give Fox News..... well, there would many many more informed individuals. Oh wait. PBS is rarely funny. It's often sobering and real. The opposite of what Fox is.

Rincewind53: Fox News lost any remaining credibility it had when it declared as an editorial move to refer to the shutdown as a "slimdown" in all of its allegedly hard news articles. The incredibly audacity of that is just mindboggling, and I'm pissed that the media hasn't given them more sh*t over it.

It had about a smidgin of remaining credibility, but that was it. Congratulations, Fox News, I hadn't thought you could sink even lower, but you have.

Yes, how DARE the media allows this media to be any less than media by manipulating its media to satiate the consumer's desire for media. The media should be ashamed of this media.

This is now my go-to Fox News credibility pic, a screen cap of their lead story on foxnews.com. It ran in the morning before the lady getting herself killed at the Capitol hit the news. It wasn't in the opinion section. It was the top news story on their main page. Fair & balanced!

APPROVED IN 2012

Jesus, considering how much you talk about this shutdown, you REALLY have no farking idea how this works, do you?

This is why a LOT of things are still open, either Congress doesn't handle their funding, it comes from outside sources, or IT WAS ALREADY APPROVED.

Guess what? Obama also isn't "keeping the Presidential Golf Course open", although I've been battling THAT one for a week now.

Really mind boggling, but I guess unsurprising that this is coming from bullshiat mountain.  The tea party demands a government shutdown, then foxnews complains that in dealing with the shutdown that forced on him against his will, Obama isn't trying to only shut down unpopular things.

I wish I could say that it's a new level of bullshiat.  But when a "news" channel is basically the a propaganda mouthpiece for a political party that has gone nuts and thrown reality out the window, the bullshiat knows no bounds.

I even cut off a couple from my original full sized screen cap. Below that was this gem:

"TWO VIEWS OF THE BUDGET IMPASSE: Reid holding gov't hostage | GOP already won, why not compromise?"

It's so good of them to give us two views of the story: the far right wing view and the far right wing view.

Actually, the only part that matters is that this was funded last year, so it has no bearing on the shutdown anyway. In other words, it's a non-story, but the ignorant mouth-breathers can't be bothered to read that far.

Because, as a country, we are better off with an educated populace, even though that is NOT advantageous to Republicans. And since the Learning Channel and the History channel are not associated with history or learning, we, as a country, need unbiased, accurate reporting, and educational programming.

Apparently the will of the people is a shutdown until Obamacare is defunded.

Just don't ask any of the actual people.

CourtroomWolf: They only use "slimdown", because they realize even their viewers aren't stupid enough to blame the shutdown on Obama/Democrats.  If that were the case, they would say "shutdown" loud and proud, while blaming it on the Democrats.  Since they know they can't pull it off, they minimize it by calling it a "slimdown".  It's also an attempt to make it sound like the Republicans are doing something marginally good.

No, teabaggers are perfectly capable of holding both thoughts simultaneously.  Just like they think Obama is a Communist and a Fascist and a Muslim that went to a radical Christian church for 20 years.

Yeah, I was mentioning this to my wife this weekend, I can't read a Tweet to save my life. The real problem is figuring out which part is what the person making the post actually meant to say. It seems like that's crammed in the middle somewhere, but has no real rhyme or reason to sort it out.

On a related note, I got this onto FaceBook before my Right Wing buddies could get all lathered up and pointed out that the reason this happened wasn't because Obama was protecting his "liberal propaganda machine", but because it was already funded from last year. It'll be interesting to see if this tactic works, or if my buddies will ignore it and steamroll right over me.

There are lots of places in this country where it is not cost effective for for-profit broadcasters to provide access to news and information (that's not a criticism of for-profit broadcasters; it's simply economic reality). Now, there may be those who say that cable and internet have rendered the matter moot, and that's a discussiont we could have if we wanted. I think the number of Americans who lack cable or internet access may surprise you, though.

I would never have discovered Monty Python or Dr Who, at least not until my 20s,if it wasn't for catching them both on PBS when I was 11 or 12. I'd rather have my tax dollars go to PBS than to have reality TV even exist, and I don't actually watch anything on PBS any more...

Politics aside...is this what passes for journalism, and journalistic writing these days?  Do they have a high school drop out writing their articles, or is that the level of education expected of the readers of Fox "News"?

There's nothing wrong with Dora... My Brother in Law doesn't like Dora though, because he somehow thinks that they are "indoctrinating" his kid because they are teaching him words in Spanish while teaching problem solving. The guy is a year older than me, you think he'd remember the fact that kid's learning shows have been doing that since the 70s,even the one he watched. There was one called 'Villa Allegre' that aired in the 70s that was really just a show about integrating American and Mexican cultures, and my BIL turned out fine... Sad part is; he's a smart guy and USUALLY pretty level headed...

At the same time, I think Sesame Street socks. This flashy MTv editing is doing noting but ruining kids' attention spans even earlier...
