Oh, a way to know what a farker thinks?  How will I ever do that without buying a book?  Oh wait, I could just go to Fark.

Satire?

Reading a few things from that guy got me back into lifting a while back.

Hats off to him!

Congrats Joe!

On first read: Oh, that's neat, someone got published.
After reading the Amazon description: Oh, not published.  "Published."

If a blogger publishes a physical book, does that make him a logger?

Submitting a plug for a special free preview of your book? Just for us, because you love us so much? Awwww, you shouldn't have.

No, really. You shouldn't have.

Good to see Joe Peacock is still at it.

Please spend 14.95 on my book which is a collection of stuff I have already wrote and you can read for free on line.

I got to meet Joe a few years ago when he cam to Columbus on a book tour.  Nice guy and a great story teller.  It was fun hanging out with him for the evening.

You DON'T use a fist to punch someone, you use the heel of your palm. That's the first thing you'll learn in Krav Maga, and it makes a lot of sense - try punching a wall with a fist as suggested in your article, then try hitting it with the same force, using the heel of your palm.

The title alone makes me hate you a little bit.

Congrats.  You should really get a cover artist or someone who can even MS Paint something a little more attractive.  Collected article books are niche enough already without possibly turning off potential buyers.

Good luck!  I sold jack shiat for my self published book *cough*http://www.amazon.com/Bedtime-Stories-Insomniac-ebook/dp/B00B0 S46LA *cough* but I'm also terrible at marketing and lazy.  Any Farker wants a copy of mine they can just have one.

Depends on if you know jack shiat about promotion. If Fark is the extent of promotion, it's sub-jack.

That's also where SFA publishing houses fall short. They're willing to take money to edit and print, but they rarely get enough money out of the author to do a decent job of promotion.

This thread is interesting.  With only two exceptions by my count, the TFers are creaming themselves over it while the lighters are apathetic.  Must be one hell of an awesome clubhouse in TF!

Self-flagellation is still flagellation, even if a professional who does that for a living might do a better job.

Self-publishing is publishing, just without the resources or stamp of approval from a company that thinks it may make them money.

Your chapters read like the same sorts of drunken ramblings I can get on Fark any day of the week, for free.

Better luck next time.

Joes Rules of Air Travel

"Seriously, enough with the jewelry. You're flying, not attending cotillion. There's no need for 31 pounds of gold and platinum. This is actually the case all day, every day, no matter where you go, because you look like a guido retard. But that's another post. Walking through the metal detectors will get your metal detected. So take the shiat off. Please. "

I have rings, earrings and Doc Martens I wear, but all that stuff comes right off and goes into the bins before I even stand in line to be scanned. I'm off to the side removing all metallic stuff. Even so, for some reason the thing that seems to trip me up is the change I stupidly left somewhere in a pocket.

"You should have pee'd and poo'd before you got on. "

I always try to get an aisle seat because I get an upset stomach flying. And I don't mind getting up for people in my aisle. Part of flying, what are you gonna do?

"Conversation is for those who want conversation. "

That's what I say, then last flight I took was a six hour flight, and for most of that time the cute girl next to me didn't even say boo to me. Then in that last hour all of a sudden she started talking to me. Weird how it works out.

The (Updated) Rules of the Gym -- Basically, guys need to quit making girls feel uncomfortable, girls need to stop egging it on, and everyone needs to quit farting on the treadmills.

The day I can't fart on the treadmill is the day the terrorists have won!

As someone who writes, but hasn't published fiction stuff (only academic work), I have to say that I've met plenty of people who call themselves "writers" who put stuff down on paper and then do the following:

1) edit it a few hours later
2) consider it golden
3) send a half-hearted query to an agent
4) get no response
5) repeat 1-4 a few more times for good measure
6) get pissed that no one is worshiping your work
7) send it out to get self-published
8) call yourself a writer

What is really sad is that there's a TON of self-published works out there that are absolutely craptacular, and you know exactly why no one wanted to touch it.  What's even sadder is that some of these folks spend a lot of their own money trying to get others to check out their work, through extra book purchases, web site maintenance, etc.  Some of these self-publishing writers end up losing thousands of dollars just trying to get people to pay attention to them.

\have two novels sitting on my laptop right now
\\I know that neither of them are good enough to go out to an agent

\\\\wonder if there's a FARK writer's club out there?

We had one for a while in TFD but it turns out "You suck" and "You suck" in quotes followed by the word "THIS" wasn't the in-depth Chautauqua Institution-level creative constructive criticism experience that people were looking for.

LOL

Throw in thinly veiled sarcasm and an overall sense of smugness and that's any writing group I've ever been to in a nutshell.

Ah.  Somehow I was expecting a bit more, but what do I know?  The same thing happens on the standard sites like Zoetrope.  Awful, awful stuff.

Keep an eye on the FarkUs tab for the next week or so. Some former Farkers were talking about doing some publishing, were going to reach out to the community.

I'm fairly certain a large number of people here write My Little Pony erotic fanfiction, if that counts.
