The government isn't making their lives miserable, their own actions to shut down the government is what is making their lives miserable. Saying that the government is making their lives miserable because of this shutdown is like blaming the person who you murdered for making your life miserable because as a result you had to go to trial and was sentenced to a prison term.

The only way anyone will understand the gravity of the situation is if everyone bleeds. For too long people have been content with gutting or destroying things they don't see themselves as needing or wanting. As a result, if they don't feel pain then it is not a problem, who cares if it causes others pain, they are morally inferior otherwise they would not feel the pain.

Actions have consequences, and it is time for everyone to bleed.

You're obviously unaware that there are some stereotypes that are politically correct.  Don't worry, this is the good kind of bigotry.

Well, since you both seem unable to grasp the basic problem the headline points out- its not the Tea Party hunters, it's the Tea Party Representatives that engineered the shutdown that did not consider the backlash of their constituency (tea party or not ) that are hunters. It's highly likely that Tea Party representatives come from districts with a high number of hunters and anglers.

Because these people and the people that were applauding the shutdown didn't think that the federal government had any bearing on their lives accept for making their lives miserable. Now that they found out that their childish beliefs are wrong, and shutting down the government has a direct affect on things they need and things they like to do they are regretting their own decisions in the most childish way possible, by putting the blame on somebody else.

"Freedom" is not having to pay for the government, while enjoying the benefits of government. That sums up the tea party's world view pretty well.

Pick: Gee, with the Federal Communications Commission shut down, why have they not ordered all TV, Radio, and commercial 2 way radio systems shut down? Same darn thing..........

Exactly! Because as we all know, the Federal government (through the FCC) owns, operates and maintains all TV, Radio, and commercial 2 way radio systems  in exactly the same way that they own, operate, and maintain (through the DOI) the 329  Federally owned wilderness preserves that are being discussed in this article.

See folks, this is exactly what is wrong with the teabaggers and know-nothings that comprise a huge chunk of the Republican Party -- a view of government that is so goddamned simpleminded that they actually think that the FFC's regulation of privately owned broadcasting  systems the "same damn thing" as the DOI's  ownership, operation, and maintenance of federal wilderness preserves.

dr_blasto: That's the thing. The stupid farking conservatives think government doesn't do anything. So when they go out of their way to shut it down, they're horrified to find that some things they don't hate are no longer available to them. They then reason that they're only closed because Obummer is a dick and personally decided to close something to spite them since their narrative (government bad, really ineffective and doesn't do anything) cannot be wrong.

They are actually that stupid.

The people that vote for them are also that stupid.

That's ultimately the thing, and why I continually try to point out that calling the Teabaggers (and "libertarians" in general) "anarchists" or "anti-government" or whatever is not at all correct and is, in fact, playing right into their (and their owners') hands. They don't hate government, at all. They love government. They love big-ass farking government. There is no government big-ass enough for them when it comes to the functions of state violence, or restricting civil rights for whoever they've been told not to like, or filling the pockets of their wealthy lords.

What they hate is any function of governance that prevents them (and, again, more properly their owners) from complete freedom to plunder everything they can from the rest of the country: Wealth, resources, even basic human dignity. They want it all. When they say they "hate government", what they mean is they hate democracy. They hate not being the rulers. They hate that the entire country is not a collection of patroonships owned by right-wing ubermenschen.

They're no more anti-government than any other totalitarian fascist group over the last century or so. They just hate that anyone they've decided isn't part of their tribe has any freedom whatsoever, and will do anything they can to destroy the structures that protect those freedoms.

paygun: ongbok: They are the ones that have engineered this shutdown with threats of primarying any Republican in the House that didn't vote for it.

Yes they did, and the word has come down from on high to make this hurt for as many people as possible, in order to inflict as much political damage on Republicans as possible.  It's not exactly a secret.

This is temper tantrum all around.

See this is what I meant before by the Tea Party is now regretting their decision in the most childish way possible, by blaming somebody else for their own actions. Of course a government shutdown is going to affect just about anything the federal government controls, you would have to be a plain idiot not to realize shutdown the government was going to affect national parks, government offices, national memorials and a host of other things. It is just the dumb as Tea Baggers didn't realize this when they were screaming to shut it down, and now that it is affecting what they do they have to blame somebody, and that somebody isn't going to be themselves. There isn't anybody trying to maximize the hurt for political points against the Republicans, anybody with half a brain should have realized that this was going to hurt in many different ways, and the longer it last the more hurt people are going to feel.

I've seen maybe one or two unattributed quotes in right-wing stories that even suggest at something like this. Where is the evidence that 'the word has come down from on high' as you suggest? Because what is not exactly a secret is that that is right-wing hyperbole.

paygun: You're right, the federal government answers directly to the tea party. How could I have missed that? What's even more insidious is that they've conned all these officials into claiming their superiors in the federal government have ordered them to do these things, when it's really just some tea party guy in a basement somewhere calling all the shots. We're through the rabbit hole people.

You disingenuous twat.

Tea Party congressmen do what their Tea Party constituents want them to do.
Tea Party congressmen are the entire reason the government is shut down.
Government is shut down, so the officials' superiors tell them to shut. everything. down. like it's freaking Madagascar.

So, in a nutshell, yes, some tea party guy in his underpants (on his head, mind you) IS calling the shots, in a way.  And that's what's so sickening about all this.  A tiny minority of the population wants this shutdown, and they're getting their way.
