CynicalLA: Every thing you post is somehow related back to your gun fetish.  It's a fact.

Yeah like all those posts in this thread, before you brought up guns.  Obviously it's me.

The Numbers: Is it me, or does this thread feature a lot more people imagining what they think the Teabaggers believe than it does evidence of actual reactions?

paygun: ongbok: Yeah there is no possible way that they would have to reduce staffing also so that those people are working skeleton crews that would leave them unable to effectively patrol the park and respond to emergencies while it is open to the public.

Google this sentence and you'll see it in the published shutdown plans of one agency after another.  It's not something I just made up:

Employees responsible for imminent threats to human life or property will continue to work, as determined by their agency.

And there is know way that those staff are also supported by other people who won't be working, thus making it unsafe to operate the park in those conditions. There is a whole support system that goes with running a park like that safely. All of them are needed. Just leaving one part of the system in place and trying to continue to run the park not lonly makes it dangerous for vistors but also dangerous for those employees. How hard is it to understand that?

How many park rangers do you think they used to staff that wide spot in the road with?

Anyway, I see your point, that Barak Obama is the benevolent giver of life, and therefore he would never play politics with this.  I just don't believe it.

Citris: zipdog: How the hell did people shoot deer and catch fish before the government was around?

With extreme anxiety, a musket, a hatchet and a good knife.  You know this comfortable thing we call civilization? Thank Government for that, otherwise we would still have to watch our backs when roaming away from our strongholds and be wary of bandits and indigenous folk who don't want us on their sacred lands.

This whole Park closure thing can be settled right now.  Want to go in? Fine, there is no ranger service or rescue op, if you get lost, mauled by wildlife or robbed by desperate homeless folk you cannot hold the US government or any organization liable.  Here sign this waiver and best of luck to ya!

Most of the Ranger's aren't on the job - but SAR is still being carried out. Acadia NP had to rescue some idiot's ass the other day who decided to jump the barricades. Without pay. And apparently without backpay.

Gee, with the Federal Communications Commission shut down, why have they not ordered all TV, Radio, and commercial 2 way radio systems shut down? Same darn thing..........

Hey, I know a few liberal men that hunt and fish.  Liberals really like fly fishing and grouse hunting.  Both of those usually require a lot of expensive equipment and fancy little outfits.

zipdog: cameroncrazy1984: Yeah, when the government wasn't involved in hunting and fishing, we totally didn't almost wipe out the Buffalo.

Funny thing is that the US government actively promoted the hunting of bison (I'm assuming that's what you meant by Buffalo) to the point that private citizens were begging the government to stop those policies. It is private ownership of bison on private land that has enabled the populations to recover.

Nice smear.  Also, I like how you insist on calling them bison, even though buffalo is accepted vernacular.  Most people around my home town would consider you an overeducated twat trying to use $20 words.  Of course, several of them now raise buffalo, so what do they know.

I'd like to point out that the shooting of buffalo was endorsed by private entities.  The rail roads considered the herds to be a threat to their rail lines.  Private ranchers wanted the buffalo gone because they were a threat to their more docile herds of cattle.  You know, the kind of private citizens with the power and influence to make the government do as they wished.

/but if rich people make government do it, it must be ok.

I tried hunting catch and release, but once I pulled the bullet out, the deer stayed there.

Regulating something is not the same as owning it. National parks, owned by the feds. TV and Radio stations, not owned by the feds.  So, not the same darn thing.

pyrotek85: DeaH: fuhfuhfuh: The only way anyone will understand the gravity of the situation is if everyone bleeds.

But the deer won't be bleeding if hunters can't get licenses.

/Sadly, I know a few "hunters" who think the shutdown just means the laws about hunting are nullified.

I was wondering about that actually. The laws aren't being nullified, but I wonder if the manpower to enforce them will be effected at all. Just because they're not issuing licenses doesn't mean people won't be hunting or fishing.

Yes, I thought about poaching, too. That usually means more injured animals who do a lot of damage before they die. Lack of enforcement always seems to empower the idiots who like to shoot at things but don't know how to hunt.

Pick: Gee, with the Federal Communications Commission shut down, why have they not ordered all TV, Radio, and commercial 2 way radio systems shut down? Same darn thing..........

Exactly! Because as we all know, the Federal government (through the FCC) owns, operates and maintains all TV, Radio, and commercial 2 way radio systems  in exactly the same way that they own, operate, and maintain (through the DOI) the 329  Federally owned wilderness preserves that are being discussed in this article.

See folks, this is exactly what is wrong with the teabaggers and know-nothings that comprise a huge chunk of the Republican Party -- a view of government that is so goddamned simpleminded that they actually think that the FFC's regulation of privately owned broadcasting  systems the "same damn thing" as the DOI's  ownership, operation, and maintenance of federal wilderness preserves.

Hah, I was JUST talking to my parents about this very thing this weekend.  "Wait until it starts affecting hunting licenses.  Then we'll see the derpers stop trying to claim the shutdown is a good thing."  I'm honestly surprised Fox News hasn't come up with some way to spin this as being good for hunters or some similar bullcrap.

cameroncrazy1984: zipdog: How the hell did people shoot deer and catch fish before the government was around?

Almost to extinction.

Jesus Christ people, don't you understand your own history?

The kind of person who thinks the shutdown is a good thing doesn't understand that the Earth orbits around the Sun.

If they are that intent on killing something, why don't we send them to war first, and keep the healthy ones for later attacks?

Don't most species let their retarded and disabled die first to protect the species?

cameroncrazy1984: I think my favorite part of the shutdown so far has been Michele Bachmann saying she got exactly what she wanted, and then like a day later she's yelling at a park ranger asking why people can't get into a national monument.

I almost get the feeling that they thought the shutdown meant they were kicking the president out of the whitehouse and that's it.

No one ever accused them of being bright.

BMulligan: FTFA:  call on Congress to end the shutdown, which has closed 329 federal wildlife refuges to hunting

This is obviously some new definition of the word "refuge" with which I was not previously acquainted. "Welcome to our sanctuary here, cute little bunny and majestic elk. Make yourself at home in this place of refuge. Comfy? Good."

BLAM!!!

No but the user can wear a camo muumuu.  It's like a poncho but think rainy baseball diamond...yeah about that size.

Is that a real poncho, or is that a Sears poncho?
