Well, that's not necessarily a bad thing. You'd just get a TV ending, and a book ending, meaning that you'd actually get more entertainment value.

And isn't that basically what happened with Akira ?

Or when (not if) he "pulls a Jordon", you at least get an ending. I think doing so is the only way he'll die happy.
