So when do the zombies start dying of hunger and thirst?

The season 3 finale drew record ratings for the show. 12.4 million viewers is hardly "dwindling".

Nadie_AZ: So when do the zombies start dying of hunger and thirst?

Having read the comics, I don't remember that.  It's implied that there's some combination of them having an ultra-efficient metabolism, hibernation, and eating the resurgent wildlife that's been dramatically increasing in population with humanity at a low point.

Yeah, there's no dwindling ratings for that show. It's more popular than when it started and AMC is even making a spin-off. You just can't say things that have no bearing in reality. Why would you do that?

And why would they all decide to stay in the prison when Woodbury is a lovely town, well-barricaded, and everyone will shoot the Governor on sight if he tries to return? The prison is ugly and it sucks. Plant some flowers or paint the walls, guys.

I think they slow down in the cold, but as the setting is Georgia, winters aren't particularly severe (and we have never seen winter on the TV show). I would think in northern climates the zombies would probably hibernate in the winter, but they don't die of hunger or thirst, and decomposition seems to stop at the moment of death.

Not very realistic of course but they are zombies. I don't think anyone's really determined their life span.

How many years have gone by since the initial zombie breakout by the start of Season 4?

Since I don't see zombies replicating, I would think surviving humans should start getting the upper hand on the zombies, so long as they are practicing safe zombie hygiene by burning or braining their dead before they turn.

Now might be a good time to show small stable populations, in defendable spots, say in the mountains, or on islands.  Zombies seems greatly affected by gravity and not very rational so it seems hard to imagine the random steps of many zombies carrying the group up a mountain.

Might be a good time to introduce an underground race of mutants with an atom bomb that maybe they worship.

I don't understand this show at all. It has paper thin characters, contrived plot points and awful pacing. Most of the people I know who watch it seem to hate it, but they keep up with it in the expectation that it's going to somehow improve after three uneven seasons.

The most shocking twist is that the video game adaptation (Telltale's adventure game, not that first person shooter game) is way better than the show.

Did I miss something? Is it like LOST where there's supposed to be some payoff at the end to justify all the agony? Or are people hate-watching the show because of their love for the superior source material?

I like it for what it is. The girl does too. I don't tune in with huge expectations, but to me, it's a lot of fun. Simple as that. If you don't like it, watch something else, don't force yourself to try to understand the concept of why people like it. If you don't, odds are you never will. There's not a lot to understand.

The game is set in the comic's universe which is a little different than the show's so it isn't an adaptation.

A bunch of long, boring conversations about how it's a new world, the rules are different, morality has changed, do we want to raise a child in this world, blah blah blah blah blah, and occasionally some passably good CGI blood splatter when they remember it's a zombie show and some action finally occurs?

seriously, between this show and Revolution, I've yet to figure out how either are staying in the air when it seems like the fans of both do nothing but biatch constantly.

Reedus says another by-product of all the new characters is less scenes between the core cast members - at least at first.

Apparently, one can become a professional writer without knowing when to use "fewer" and when to use "less".

He says fear is back because of all these new characters and you don't know which one will screw you over?

How about fear of ZOMBIES!?!?!

Last season they were traipsing through the woods back and forth to Woodbury and zombies were barely an issue!

Not saying it has to be an hour of zombie chases, but at least show some apprehension about leaving your 4 walls BECAUSE of zombies!

I'm more scared to go into my basement because of spiders than these guys are to go in the woods, at night, full of zombies!

I want to see how they're going to title the spin-off. Will they go the "CSI" route, and have "The Walking Dead: Miami" and "The Walking Dead: New York", or they will they go the "Law & Order" route and have "The Walking Dead: Special Zombie Unit"?

/Stay tuned.

You do know that the show is not about zombies? It's about people adopting to a new world. The title referes to the survivors not the zombies.

This. I love The Walking Dead, but haven't been able to plod through the 2nd season of Breaking Bad. It's too violent and unbelievable ... (I'm really trying to get into BB so I can occasionally interject 'oh yeah' in the cool kids' conversations. Just not feeling it.)

This problem takes care of itself in the comic, at the same time as the Lori problem.

Actually, that's one of the things that I like about the show from last season...that the survivors have learned to live with the zombies being a part of the natural surroundings, and don't waste their energy on wandering meandering zombies that aren't in their way. Really, the only fear of zombies in that world any survivor should have is A)a large herd of them or B)the stealthy, ninja zombies that somehow quietly sneak up behind a lone character in the woods that lazy writers pop into the story to provide a jump scare.

It's actually about both of those things.

And I do enjoy the show, but there have been times when the arguing (never mind how much of that would go on if this were "really happening") bogged it down, IMHO. Dale was a good foil for the moral arguments, but once he died that role fell to Andrea, who (again, IMHO) bordered on insufferable in that role.

That game really is fantastic. I've never found myself emotionally invested in a video game character before Clem and Lee. Especially when you made a decision Clem didn't like, she'd give you an uncomfortable face and make you feel like a dick about it. Rumor has it that Season 2 will be out sometime in Q4 this year, so, maybe in November or December?

Related, but I'm okay with Maggie wearing threadbare midriff shirts this season.

Most zombie stories are about dealing with the asshole survivors more than the zombies. The zombies just bring out the worst in people.

It's following pretty close to the dev of Wolf Among Us which is slate for next month, so I'd expect it late Nov early Dec

Walking Dead is almost there with this...almost. While I love a good singular enemy, sometimes I think the better stories are told when survivors turn on each other.

I live about 10 miles from where the show is filmed.  We usually get at least one good ice storm a year, and temps below freezing for days at a stretch are not at all uncommon.  They'd be freezing their asses off in that prison without heat.
