Obama's making unannounced stops at FEMA sites. It's time, people. He's preparing them to start the camps. When it comes, don't say I didn't warn you!

Bones is basically begging for an out at this point.  He should just hold the damn vote and let the government get back to work. If you hate the ACA so much work to get a majority in the senate in 2014.

he's only rounding up the people who didn't vote for him.  I'm safe.

True, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over that fact.

They didn't have enough votes in both houses to kill Obamacare 42 times, but that didn't stop them from taking them..  It was purely symbolic and the GOP leadership knew it was good gristle for the folks back home to chew on.

This time, the enormous boil on everyone's asses, the teabaggers, won't be let off the hook so easy.  Boner will wait until the 11th hour and force a vote with enough time to force a second one, should the first fail.

The shutdown is starting to have real effects back home for a lot of people, and has gone beyond the faux outrage generated by Fox and similar sources..

If the first vote fails, or the bill presented demands an Obamacare de-funding (which he pretty much said would happen this past Sunday) then that will most likely be the bus big enough to throw the Teabaggers under once and for all.

We can only hope, at this point.

A majority wouldn't do it anyway, the President could just veto and bill repealing it and there's no way the GOP gets 2/3 of the Senate, ever.

Well Boner, will you stand tall and firm, or will you wilt and sputter as usual?

At work, we have a lot of government clients. Mostly military, so we're not affected that much. If this goes on, I'm guessing we'll have a problem getting paid for services rendered.

I did have to call the Fed on Friday to get some info on a payment received. What ordinarily would have been a three minute phone call turned into me being on hold for 20 minutes.

On a more personal note, we put our home on the market just before the shutdown. We received and accepted an offer within a week; much faster than we were expecting. Unfortunately, the sale of our house is now on hold until the government starts back up.

Thanks, Boehner and Cruz, you cocks.

If they do put it up for a vote and the republicans vote against it they won't be able to claim that it's the democrats who are keeping the government shut any more.

Seriously.  How many doomed ACA repeal votes did they try?  Did we break 50 yet?

Hold the vote.  What's the worse that can happen, Mr. Speaker?

(oh yes - getting your weak ass bluff called)

At the same time, Boehner took to the House floor to slam Obama for failing to "sit down and negotiate" to end the shutdown and debt ceiling impasses.

2013-10-07 03:34:17 PM
The irony here is that if Boehner called for the vote and it did fail, he'd be able to reinforce his point and that might give him some actual leverage to bring Democrats to negotiate on something they shouldn't have to negotiate on. Plus, he'd be able to brag about how he was right and then chastise Obama for wasting Congress' time.
He has everything to gain if he's right about it not passing, but he won't bring it to a vote. Do we really need to wonder why?

2013-10-07 03:34:32 PM
I'm ok with this. Put out a clean CR with no shenanigans, takr a vote, and let's see where we stand. We'll go from there.

But enough of this "it won't pass anyway so why do anything" bullshiat.

I dunno why, but this headline reminded me of Irate Black Guy prank calls who kept on screaming "give me your farking address" over and over again.

If the republicans want to roll this up with the debt ceiling and declare victory over a few symbolic concessions there, then we can save the economy and they can keep their "street cred" and not feel "dissed". The rubes can still swoon for them and the serious adults can breath a sigh of relief.

Now now, why wouldn't you take him at his word that the votes are there? After all, has any other Speaker had more success getting an accurate whip count than he has?

(The answer is yes; he has a terrible record of bringing bills to the floor he supports only to lose the vote.)

I've heard a few people argue that Boehner knows he has to fund the government and he has to lift the debt ceiling, but he also knows the only way to do either of those things will inevitably lead to the suicide caucus throwing him out as Speaker. If he held a vote to fund the government via a clean CR today, he would get deposed and replaced with somebody who really will refuse to raise the debt ceiling by October 17th and trigger a global depression. The only way out without collapsing the worldwide economy is to do a package CR funding and debt limit increase.

2013-10-07 03:37:14 PM
We can't vote because we can't be sure the vote will turn out the way we expect it to.

That's pretty rational.  I mean, that's why we sometimes cancel presidential and congressional elections, right?  Because we can't be sure of how the votes will turn out.

We've had most of the year to "sit down and negotiate" over the budget which the Senate passed in March, but Boehner has refused to appoint conference committee members to do so, or even try to pass a sane budget bill revision from the Ryan clownshow they'd passed earlier this year. It ain't the Democrats refusing to negotiate.

2013-10-07 03:40:16 PM
Once Obama shows his complete lack of understanding of how the government works.

The speaker cannot simply call a vote any time that he feels like. There are procedures that must be followed and furthermore socialism.

I've seen that argument and at this point, it seems the best we can hope for; I'm not entirely sure I believe it, though.

Whether Boehner "wins" or "loses" this fight (I'm really not even sure what would constitute winning or losing for him in his own mind at this point), I predict that afterwards, his backroom  sponsors and enablers will give him the political equivalent of what Wotan gave Hunding.

I really wonder if he knows he's a metaphorically dead man walking by now, whatever happens with the budget and debt limit.

"Geh, knecht."

This shiat is bananas.

Imagine you go into a room with someone to do, I dunno, anything, it's not important..  Before you get round to the issue at hand...

Other guy: "I'd like this room to remain filled with air"
You: "Uh, okay? I'd like that too, since I breathe to remain alive and all.  OK, so we're agreed on that point, air will remain"
Other guy: "Hold on a minute there.  I want your wallet, too."
You: "Uh, no?"
Other guy: "Wallet, or I pump the air out of the room"
You: "You'll suffocate and die"
Other guy: "Your farking wallet, biatch"

If it doesn't pass, it gives a clear indication of those who voted against it and kept the shutdown going, and you would have to figure a number of them would feel the heat back home for it, whereas now they can claim they want to do something to re-open the government but haven't had a chance, essentially riding the fence.  With a vote, either the government re-opens or they have to put up or shut up.

Other than it has proven in the past to accomplish nothing, sure. That said, vote. And vote on the debt ceiling while you're at it.

No, it won't. The GOP moderates won't actually sign the petition. Rep. Charlie Dent was on CNN today and said he wouldn't sign it because the earliest they'd get to use the petition would likely be October 28th. The shutdown can't go on that long; the CR will get rolled up with the debt ceiling lift before then.

2013-10-07 03:42:53 PM
Also, when the Republicans do eventually capitulate, I hope Obama drags them out to Hawaii, and makes them sign the paperwork on the deck of the Missouri.
