Holding a clipboard is probably more Josh Freeman's speed.

This is one of those rare cases where just moving to another team might help the player and both teams. I hope so, I kinda like Freeman and the Vikings, and Tampa Bay needs a lot more help before they are a threat to the Saints.

He certainly can't match the gunslinging skills of Christian Ponder.

Josh Freeman and Christian Ponder are proof that NFL owners are rather gullible and naive.

Probably, but for as regressive and at times downright inept as Freeman has been since his rookie year, Schiano looks just as much like a controlling, manipulative asshole who had every intention to tarnish and outright shame Freeman's image because...well, only he can answer that.

Normally, I don't complain about Vikings greenlights, but... subby, did you even try?

As with all new Vikings qbs, I'm sticking with "can't be much worse than [Webb/Jackson/Ponder/Cassel/etc]."

The last thing Minnesota needs is idiot sportswriters and local talk radio callers to tell everyone the answer to all their problems is another 55% passer.

As a Vikings fan, I've already talked myself into the Josh Freeman era.  I was hoping the Vikings would trade for him before he was even released from Tampa Bay, and this is even better, since they don't need to give up anything to get him.  He has a big arm and has huge upside.  For any skeptical Vikings fans or butthurt Tampa Bay fans who want to disagree with me, the reality is that Freeman at least gives the Vikings a small chance at having a franchise QB.  That chance is currently sitting at 0% with Ponder and Cassel.  Also, Freeman didn't exactly have great coaching in Tampa with Raheem Morris and Greg "I'm about to be fired" Schiano.  It is worth a shot.

In a world where Kerry Collins (12 TD, 7 INT; 2600 yards, 80.4 passer rating) made the Pro Bowl, anything can happen.

Josh Freeman, in the flesh.... or, rather, in the Vikings suit. I took the liberty of relieving you of your starter status. Most of it was Buccaneer's property. As for the suit... well, I think you've earned it.

The NFC South is in Saints' control now, thanks to you. Quite a nasty piece of work you managed over there. I am impressssed.

That's why I'm here, Mr. Freeman. I have recommended your services to my... er, the CFL, and they have authorized me to offer you a job. They agree with me that you have limited potential.

You've proved yourself a decisive man so I don't expect you'll have any trouble deciding what to do. If you're interested, just step across the border and I will take that as a yes. Otherwise, well, I can offer you a third-string QB slot on a 4th tier team. Rather an upgrade after what you've just survived.

Time to choose...

Also, reports say the Raiders have cut Matt Flynn. I love how they do this after they lose out on signing Freeman, how very Raiders of them.

No, really, Matt McGloin is a fine option at backup. Really kind of a moot point anyway, QB's who average 9 carries a game never get injured.

Since most QB decline to play in it, it really doesn't take much to make the pro bowl. Hell, you or I could likely make it

It's a good move for the Vikes.

- Freeman is like a month older than Ponder, team can easily sell the fans on giving up on Ponder as "the guy".
- Let's them keep Cassel as a backup, eliminates any possibility of them having to give Cassel a multi-year deal if he continued to play decent through the rest of the year.
- They can test drive Freeman and if he plays well, they save themselves having to start over at QB in the draft, which probably would have been one of the 2nd tier guys like Murray or AJ McCarron. If he's still terrible, then they're no worse off.

Start Cassell till he shiats the bed (and we all know he will shiat the bed), THEN put in Freeman.

No need for the fanbadse to "give up" since most didn;t believe before this year and nowadays even Ponder defnders ( like myself) think he has to go.

Why not?  There is no downside to this move.  Best case scenario - Freeman spends a few weeks watching Cassel and then steps in, leads the Vikings to the playoffs and becomes their QB of the future.  Worst case - He fails miserably and the Vikings go 3-13 and get a top pick in next years draft (to draft a good QB).  It is win-win.  Although I suppose the true worst case scenario is Freeman playing just good enough to go 7-9 or 8-8 and make the Vikings invest their future in him and miss out on a real franchise QB.  Either way, it makes this season a lot more entertaining.

He's a poor man's Ben Roethlisberger. He's had talent around him (the good Mike Williams, Vincent Jackson, Kellen Winslow, Doug Martin) and only has one good year to show for it.

The defenses around the league know the book on him is to apply pressure and he'll make dumb mistakes. He's had 5 years to learn and he's only gotten worse. Maybe if he gets the right coach and the right scheme he can be effective, but then again you could say the same thing about Blaine Gabbert.

The Vikings are only 1 game out of 1st in the loss column in the NFC North right now.  They've also proven they can win games in spite of bad QB play (eg. the entire 2012 season).  I didn't say that this was the most likely scenario, just the best case.

That.

Fact: 2-3 means you have a pulse in the NFC Central. (Bears 3-2, Lions 3-2 Packers 2-2)

Fact: 1-4 means you're done.

So you roll with the QB that ochrestrated the win last week doing exactly what the fanbase has been crying out for for the last 20 games. You win, you keep it going. You lose, then screw it, who cares, put the Freeman kid in.

Of course they are dead last in the division.

The point is that can change since the Lions and Bears refused to seperate themselves from the pack yesterday.

Oh I am well aware. Very, very possible. No Vikings fan at this point will tell you they can;t see us going 5-11. The point is we have reason to belive our team can get itself out of the muck in a division where no one has an insurmountable lead on us yet.

I mean we have put up 24, 30 (16 from the offense) and 27 with CHRISTIAN PONDER at the helm  and 34 points with MATT CASSELL. We haven;t been as inept on offense as it is fun to say. Points are being scored by the O.

The elephant in the room no one talks about is our 2 minute offense giving up 2 leads and trying DESPERATLY to give up a 13rd in London. *THAT* should be our god damned #1 concern. Get THAT shored up and there is no reason to not believe a division win is possible. Likely? Of course not... my money is still on the Packers for that. Was last year too and I was happy to be wrong then too.

As a life long Bucs fan, I must say fark Schiano.  Freeman is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I hope he has success.  He has a strong arm, which will open the defense up for Peterson.   He is now the 98th black person in the state of Minnesota, as well.
