sno man: ESPN has them at 20 up ten from last week!!!  As to... Someone else wanna have a kick at getting a power rankings thread going?  It won't let me re-sub the same addy.  Even with a better headline.

Only TFers can resubmit the same link. However, there is a way:

http://espn.go.com/nhl/powerrankings/_/week/1

Probably too late for this week, though. Also, TSN won't do any rankings until Oct. 15.

The Leafs are storming out of the gate, that's for sure. Not quite as surreal as the phrase, "undefeated Kansas City Chiefs," but almost.

I'm hoping the Hawks don't turn this into a Cup hangover year.

nope not even TF'rs, within "x" timeframe  not sure what x is but were still within it 4ish hours and counting...

As for the Leafs, I'll take the six points, but they haven't all together looked all that good yet.  Although Saturday was weird, as behind as they were, I never thought "game over, were not getting this back" I was sure they would come back, and they did.  A couple of years ago, they would have folded and it would have gotten really ugly.

They have to clean up play in their own end if they want to keep it up.  At least two of Ottawas goals should not have happened Saturday.  Turris got one off a GAWDawful turnover and Spezza was allowed to skate in from the blueline to the bottom of the face-off circle completely unopposed.  It was funny, once Toronto got out of their own zone it was like the ice was tilted, but from their blueline in it was a clown show.

RumsfeldsReplacement: 1.  The Flyers have, without question, the worst group of defensemen in the NHL, and it's not even close.

I don't know what you're smoking, but you need to stop inhaling. After the brain fog clears, look at Colorado's blueline. Then come back and tell me with a straight face that the Flyers have it worse.

As for the firing, I can only assume that the players were revolting (insert Hartnell joke here). You don't fire a guy after 3 games who's only missed the playoffs once in his years on the bench. Years that involved taking whatever Holmgren picked up and making it work.

Huh. Never thought I'd see the day where I'd respect Elliott Friedman, but he had a pretty levelheaded response there. Healey is still a dick.

I get the feeling that he was all but fired after last season, and had a VERY small window to turn it around this year...
They need a coach like Oates.  And to jettison the ghost of Pronger.  He's done move on.  He should have been the second buyout, not Briere...

I am guessing that something unspeakable happened. Maybe Lavy got into a fist fight with a player in the dressing room or something equally serious that caused him to lose the complete trust and respect of the team. It was a pretty quick dismissal, and that usually means something bad went down.

Friedman's pretty solid in my book. Not great by any means, but solid. Healy has needed to have a goalie stick shoved down his throat for years.

For Healy I'd have Hasek's stick with two rolls of tape up at the top going the other way, in the other end...
I'm not all that fond of Friedman either, but he seems to have settled down a bit in the last year, so if he continues to be cool...

What, am I the only fan of Healys patented "state the obvious and act like the game is over after 1 period" style of commentary?

hehe

I'll give him bag pipe points...  not enough to make any real difference, though.

According to the CBA, you can't use buyouts on injured players, so we have to LTIR him until he retires. That's really a minor problem for the Flyers.

I knew that too... brain cramp.  I wasn't thinking so much financially, they needed to move on as a team, Laviolette was one of the ghosts, Pronger is another, he's never going to play again, just retire already, Holmgren is really another, with many odd choices over the last few years...
