"There's little kids next door," Chomas said. "He's got a tiny dog. If he had gotten a hold of one of the kids or the dog, he would have killed them for sure."

How many children a year are killed by foxes, now?

Rabies shots if bitten, yes.

"He came in this door and he grabbed my foot and my slipper," said Chomas, a Vietnam War veteran.

Guy needs to get some other type of slippers.

GIS for bunny slippers. Where have you been all my life? I know. Trying to hide from me.

Destined to result in "A red fox ate my slipper! A red fox ate my slipper! " entering the common culture.

Was he showing the big breasted fox his package? No wonder he attacked that wild and PTSD afflicted guy!

I hated that slipper.

Vietnam Vet being a key part of the story. Never miss a chance for patriotic propaganda, small town media.

Yeah, but looking at the pic in TFA you can't tell what side he was on.

I would like to fight a fox.

I'm also curious about if an adult male could take on a black bear. Besides the teeth and claws could the adult male successfully fight a bear?

If a fox behaves like that, it almost certainly is infected with rabies.  That said, FARK-ready meme FTFA:  headed straight for him.

Does the story tell us what the fox say?

Oh FFS! Another dumbass assuming a fox was rabid simply because it came up to him.

Were there any symptoms of rabies like the animal might have been staggering or otherwise acting odd? Here's a quick guide to tell:

http://www.ehow.com/how_5595511_tell-animal-rabies.html

And foxes "play bite" a lot as a sign of affection. As one person put it, "People pet foxes with their hands. Foxes pet people with their mouths".

IMO, this may have been someone's pet fox that escaped (and was used to being around people). Or just a wild fox who was used to an urban environment and wanted to play.

I feel more sorry for the fox than I do for the stupid geezer.

Came to say something similar, it sounds like Fox was trying to play more than anything.

If he was really trying to hurt the old guy he would more than likely have bitten and scratched the shiat out of the guys legs or tried to go for his hands. Going for his slipper and pants leg sounds like something a pet would do, poor misunderstood Fox :(

I see this all the time. For some reason Vietnam vets think they're invincible.  Guess what, guys?  The same rules apply to you as to everyone else.  You work around animals all day, you run the risk of being bitten--even in Vietnam.

Assuming you mean the animal not the gay minority, Black bears easily can get over 300 pounds and a 20 pound fox is unusually large in most of the US.  I'm going with no.

They told me, don't go walkin' slow, the devil's a varmint's on the loose

Better run through the jungle, don't look back to see
