Consider the enjoyment we derive from eating at top-dollar restaurants - it's not simply about the food, we reason. We're there for the experience.

I have some food rituals, but they're pretty simple, like the example of the girl eating the cookies one certain way. But I despise eating out--I hate it. I hate the expense, I hate people "waiting" on me, I hate the noise, I hate people interrupting me while I'm eating, I hate tipping, I hate all the bullshiat and rituals designed to make us think "ooohhh eating out--it's so cool!"

I also hate explaining that I have this particular quirk, maybe partly due to the fact that I worked in restaurants for many, too many, years--everywhere from Pizza Hut to fine dining. I hate eating out. Please, just don't ask me. I don't want to go.  Can we just make some popcorn and watch TV or something?

Our minds play the same game with medication, (red placebos more effective than green - sugar water injections more effective than pills), wine and friends....was reading about this 10+ years ago...  I see it's news again....

I've seen folks hold hands and pray prior to meals at McDonald's.  Not sure how to feel about this.

I knew I wasn't crazy when I insist on eating all East Asian food with chopsticks. Even Top Ramen tastes better when eaten using chopticks.

Yes!

I also hate eating out. I can't enjoy it as much and I'm allergic to garlic and onions. If I'm going to have an allergic reaction, I don't want to do it in a restaurant or worry about getting home in time if its bad.

Pretty sure people genuflect after eating at McD's, usually wretching or the shiats.
