Sorry OP. But this guy nailed it:

".... cuz Its named after him, they won't like it." (sic)

In other words, you could try to educate these radicals all you want and it would be like talking to a brick wall.

That's what my sister believes. She called me while taking public transportation to a VA appointment all excited about the government shutdown because it would show everyone how little government is needed. At least her husband will still get his SSA disability check.

Straight to doom: Could someone post a transcript of what Maher said? I'm up at work and can't watch the video.

He didn't really say anything - just introduced a montage of people on the street spouting ignorant nonsense in front of the camera.

In other news, if you spend enough time and talk to enough people, you can eventually compile two minutes worth of people ranting and pretend everyone everywhere is just as stupid as them.

A great example of why people should have to pass a competency exam before being allowed to vote. A vote is much more dangerous than a gun.

To be fair most of our elected representatives don't know much about it other than the few big items like exchanges and mandates.

Yeah, that was South Ferry.

In the past Pelosi has said that she just interviews people in and around her neighborhood (I believe Chelsea), so I don't think she's going out of her way to find these idiots, which makes it all the more sad (in fact, the worst part is that she gets these interviews without having to go to wasteland like Times Square).

There really should be a test. The only problem is that someone would have to be trusted to create it, and someone would have to be trusted to administer it.

What herp did they get this "chip under your skin" derp from?

No, the problem is that we would be imposing a certain worldview on people as a criteria for participation in a democracy.

The whole point is that the country should be whatever its constituents want it to be. If that's as near a simulacrum of Idiocracy as we can muster, then so be it.

DubyaHater: Ready for all the Bill Maher hate on Fark. Bring it

I watch his show often out of boredom, and while he is spot on some times I am certainly not a fan.

I just saw for the first time that clip of him from the View that is in the slide show from the linked article, which was apparently just after Lara Logan's rape in Tahir Square. He basically says Lara Logan's "hotness" should be sent back, and Ellizabeth Hasselbeck should be sent over to Egypt to be brutally raped.

And now I hate the man. Because goddammit, if you make me sit here watching a clip FROM THE MOTHERF*CKING VIEW and I find myself nodding in 100% agreement with ELIZABETH F*CKING HASSELBECK about F*CKING ANYTHING then you have well and truly f*cked up, hard.

Screw you, Maher. I hope you get raped by Egyptians.

Wow. Whats funny is hearing my trailer "neighbors" (in quotes because everything is spread out around here) who are all on disability SSA for decades claim that they "worked for their SSA disability" and how it's "not Govt assistance."  Granted I'm sure some may have worked for a couple of years however, since some are in their 20's I have a hard time believing it.

One of my friends (actually, ex boyfriend) was recently furloughed.
I expressed my sympathy but he said he didn't mind it at all because he hoped it will show people how little we need the government.
I was too shocked at his stupidity to articulate a rational response. Sometimes there just aren't enough facepalms.
I quickly changed the subject to kittens.

You know who does know something about the ACA?  The insurance firms that helped write it.  If they interviewed me about it I'd point to my hand and say insurance company then to my mouth and say government, then proceed to do Bill Hader's blow job bit.

I saw Barclay center behind one guy, and that's in the unfashionable area of Brooklyn. Which tells me she went out and got hours worth of tepid and generally positive responses.

You're missing the point and then some.

1) No one could be trusted to make the test objectively and fairly. It's a great idea, if it could be done perfectly, but it can't be.

2) It would obviously have to be fact-based, not political (worldview). I don't know where you got that from.
