I would be more impressed if it wasn't to be tethered to a note 3 or whatever the small print said at the bottom. If it were a standalone smartphone I would be more impressed.

Get Smart, Dick Tracy, Inspector Gadget?  Yeah, sure. Of course those are there.

Holy shiat, it's Babylon 5!

They have a wide variety of geek faves in that commercial. Too bad about the watch itself.

At the very least, it should be usable with any smartphone, not just a limited selection of Samsung's newest.  That inherently limits their audience.

Not a great commercial, but it DID make me go back and listen to Someone Great by LCD Soundsystem. Damn, what a great, sad song.

What's the price point on that thing?

You know, I like Samsung's products, but I don't know who they think is buying this.  It just doesn't look cool.  I'm willing to ignore aesthetics when I'm talking about a phone. As with any device that spends most of its time in my pocket, I'm mostly concerned with functionality.  Watches, on the other hand, are fashion pieces.  And this watch just doesn't look good.  It looks like a cheesy casio watch from the mid 90s.  It's not sleek or stylish enough for me to wear with a suit, which means I couldn't wear it at work, and it doesn't have the sex appeal to make people just want to have it for no good reason.

I mean, get back to me when you can sell me this...

Ha! I was wondering where that post went.

Call comes in, check watch, press answer, start talking on your Bluetooth and/or google glass. Or text comes in, read on watch or have it dictated in your ear. Never have to take your 6" device out of your pocket.

/eh, I'm an old school classy watch kinda guy, can't see myself ever getting a smartwatch
//they look cool enough though

You definitely want it tethered to something.  I wouldn't want to be forced to use it all the time because it's my only phone.  It would also be very expensive.

It looks like a toy. Whoever decided to give it a cheap fabric band and the flat head screws on the front, plus the crappy looking interface should be fired. This product is terrible.

They say the best camera is the one with you, so why is there a camera on it when you are required to have a better one with you already?

Cheating on exams. It would be perfect since most professors won't allow you to break out a phone during an exam.

/just make it smaller with the same screen dimensions and I'll buy it

Of course, the funny part is that this is a copy of the teaser ad Apple did for the iPhone.

Hmm.

Knowing Samsung, they probably did that on purpose.

Of course, you would need to hack the SmartWatch to silence the camera shutter sound, as there is no option to turn it off.

Years ago, I wanted to get a watchphone but data was a killer app for me.  Only a few did data and they were all slower than full size phones.  Like MCS-3 to 5 when phones were MCS-8 to 9.

Anyway, the trouble with wrist devices taking over all smartphone tasks is the tiny display.  Unless you can connect wirelessly to an external display, do the Red Planet flexi-screen, or beam lasers onto your eyes Snow Crash style, there just isn't enough display area to do more than let you know if you need to bust out the phablet to get more info.  I guess a PipBoy/Leela wrist wrap would also work but that's a big fashion statement.  Tho it would certainly provide room for a bigger battery...

FWIW, I find my old MN2 SmartWatch to be somewhat useful.  The only time I pay attention to my Twitter feeds is when I have the watch on.  It buzzes and displays tweets, facepage, email, sms, etc.  It's handy because I don't have to dig out the phone, unlock it, swipe down the notifications list, etc.  It buzzes, I turn my wrist, read the notification, and it turns off.

I'm going to get a Note 3 if its radio is as good as the Note 2.  If I get it, I'll get a Gear to go with it because, hey, new gadget.

No, the funny part is that you think apple does anything original.

Now all you have to do to prove your point is find some other commercial just like the one Apple made previously and that Samsung just copied.

We'll all wait.
