you are a puppet: Excited about Low Winter Sun finale? Well one local area woman's son won't be around this winter, tune in at 10 for the full story and sports with Jake!

Hey man, c'mon... let's be serious for a second. NO ONE is excited about "Low Winter Sun."

Wait, AMC is very adamant about my being excited about "Low Winter Sun." They were counting on my inability to change the channel after Breaking Bad.

Now you're just being ridiculous.

Jorn the Younger: ReapTheChaos: No matter what a person does or says these days, someone somewhere is bound to get offended by it. And since when is it wrong to offend someone anyway? Big deal, you took offense. When you boil it down, being offended means nothing more than you didn't like something, it's the equivalent of saying "Stop liking what I don't like". Since when is it the worlds responsibility to only say and do things that you would like?

Nice strawman. Pointless, and not really relevant to the issue at hand, but nice.

Oddly, though, you bring up an unintentional but salient point - people who can't see the difference between an inadvertent, but possibly offensive remark, and a deliberate, anempathic attempt to exploit the misfortune of others for gain. Stephen Fry spoke to the former. The fool being excoriated in this thread is an example of the latter.

Also, is anyone else sick of the "Jerry Springer method" of local journalism? I mean, the song, "Dirty Laundry", was meant to be a satirical commentary, not a goddamned educational fable.

You stay classy, Fox News.

Another Derpy-derpy "repugnican-hater" confuses a local fox affiliate with "Faux news". Even Derpy derpy "librul-haters" don't connect a CBS affiliates with the CBS network's MSM "lefty bent" - it takes a special kind of person to keep making that connection, just to inject their politics into a thread.

Blindly following the dogma of extremism in either direction is what is killing this country.

i need a strange new dictionary to read this.

Huck And Molly Ziegler: That she works for a Fox station doesn't surprise me. Do they purge new employees of their remaining ethical values before turning them loose on the public??

TV news is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.

I dunno, it's been this way since at least Network skewered it.

Mocking a boy for not being able to blow his non-existent nose. That's cold.

But he smells terrible.

2013-10-07 08:34:45 AM
This is pretty tasteless, but it's a Fox affiliate. The whole point of every News Corp. property is to appeal to the lowest common denominator of taste. When "Ow, My Balls!" makes its network debut, it'll be on Fox. Fox local stations have a whole separate vocabulary from other news operations; you'll never hear a CBS affiliate refer to juvenile suspects as "punks." So this is par for the course. The only thing her station would see wrong with it is she's plugging an AMC show rather than a Fox one.

Question: How is my posting an image macro that sums up a sentiment, in response to an expression of that sentiment, a strawman?  I made no commentary on the tweet in question, nor any responses to the tweet in question.

Additional: You refer to two kinds of offender, but it seems to me that Fry is not referring to either kind, but rather those who respond to any offence with "This offends me" but offer nothing further.

News reporters don't tweet in order to have conversations. They do it to increase publicity for their stations and broadcasts. The first clue is having the station callsign/channel in their twitter name.

The twitterverse is foaming at the mouth. Farkers are arguing. I'd say "Mission: accomplished."

This just in. Some local newscasters are really farking stupid. Case in point: last year I was at a local event where most importantly they gave me free food. Also, part of is was having some panel table discussion up at the front of the room on the topic "our city without silos". In case it wasn't obvious enough, the 3 lines of text in the program pamphlet made it clear that silos was a metaphor for different groups of people mostly not interacting with each other.

The local newscaster they got to moderate the discussion teetered onto the stage in 5 inch heels and opened by saying that to her our city without silos meant we had less farming in the area than we use to have.

/facepalm

It is teh funneh and not "interesting" because it happens to other people. I can go to my local large city, draw a ring around certain small areas and 95% of the murders happen there. If the people there enjoy killing each other and it is their culture, then who am I to judge?
