Well, I should be sittin' in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair
Talkin' some trash to the secretaries,
Sayin', "Here, now mam-ma, come on over here."
Instead, I'm stuck here rubbin' these udders with a rag
And walkin' home in smelly old shoes
With them steadily depressin', low down mind messin'
Workin' at the cow wash blues.

It keeps the cows happy and relaxed then BAM out come the rotating knives.

I was afraid it was going to be an electroejaculator.

How did my grandpa ever raise dairy cattle all those years without one of those?

The obvious enjoyment on their faces is the reason I no longer eat mammals.

The Same way he survived without automatic milking machines, or possibly no milking machine at all- with less efficiency.

Though with this machine, i'm guessing the efficiency gains- in lower vet bills, higher productivity or PR- are in the sub 1% range.

That still might be worth it for a large enough farm.

I've seen mammals enjoy themselves while they eat other mammals.

There are all sorts of curry brushes/combs he may have used on them by hand

www.showstopperequipment.com

Then again he may have just left them covered in dirt / cow poop / bugs. An itchy cow is not a contented cow and won't give good milk.

The gain comes from the cows not rubbing against everything else in the barn (or at least it reduces that tendency). Cows are incredibly destructive in that respect.

Have you ever seen mammals not enjoy themselves while they eat other mammals?

I bet my cat would really dig a smaller version of this.

A few times.  Making vegetarians eat raw beef out of the package while you have your gun pointed at them, they make all sorts of weird expressions.  The vegetarians that is, not the beef.

"increase...overall performance."

I love the fact that overall performance is a valid metric for cows.

A happy cow is a tasty cow.

Cornel University did a study on dairy cows that used mechanical brushes.  Their results showed less mastitis and higher milk output for those that used the brush compared to those that did not have access to the brush.

Also, these dairy cattle aren't what you want your steak to come from.  These are what you will see later in your cheeseburgers.
