Yeah, where's the story about Samsung's three-year design process and all the risks they took? Unfair!

Ohhh come on, there is no farking way that headline is representative of the actual story this is just flamebait... *clicks link*

Holy shiatballs it really is an 8 page love letter to a god damn mobile phone.

An Apple fan I maybe but whoever wrote that needs to calm the hell down and probably visit a rubber room.

i had the iphone 4, and just upgrades to the 5S, it's a lot better, but I get the feeling this will be the last phone i buy for like 5 years, because it just isn't that much better.

Sure it's a little faster/bigger, but phones are sorta maxing out.

I hope I'm wrong and I'm blown away by a samsung or iphone 7, but at this point as long as I don't lose it in the river I'm good for awhile.

To be fair, the iPhone was a seismic shift in the mobile phone market, making touch screen smartphones sexy after years of various failed attempts to make it work (Treo, Win Mobile, UIQ). Just ask Nokia and BlackBerry how it affected their business.

I guess both Subby and the modmin (assuming they are two different people) missed this story on Friday. All the other paid shills and brainwashed losers got their kicks in back there.

True to a degree but not sufficient to warrant an 8 page wankfest about it.  Yes, it's a consumer smartphone and one of the first to be aimed specifically at consumers that worked reasonably well (although here in the UK the original iPhone was a bit of a laughing stock due to no 3G) but *shakes head* 8 pages man.

Can it make phone calls?  Y/N.

Pretty much the own benchmark I care about when looking for a phone.  It being 'smart' is a given these days really.

This is one of the funniest articles I've read in a while. The author's sycophantic tone would be mind-boggling, if I hadn't been hearing even worse from hipsters over the last 5 years.

There are no good commutes to san Francisco. Author seems to be on anti-depressants.

It is funny. I survived grad. school just fine, but the moment I see an 8 page news article I just throw my hands up and am instantly defeated by it. Hardly a erudite response, but there you go :/

Also now I have to forever live with the shame of saying "a erudite" instead of "an erudite." English is so hard sometimes.

I only care about browsing the web, email and phone.  I've never been much for gaming on a phone, my eyes are too bad for that and the lack of a controller stymies the types of games you can play.

I'd guess the next "race" in the phone wars will be camera improvement and graphics improvement, but at this point those really are incremental improvements.

Sure it is. There's a lot of crap out there. You have the experience to know that this topic does not warrant 8 pages.

/I went in expecting to see a preview (or review) of an actual book, and closed that tab within a second or two as I saw that it was 8 pages.

I was just guessing what the next "gotta have it" improvements will be.  It makes no difference if I like it or not.

I think my HTC phone is far better than the iPhone but I still think this was an interesting article. What kind of short attention span person thinks eight pages is too long to read? You're the kind of person responsible for Family Guy style weather reports.

"And now the weather"
"IS GOIN' RAIN!"
"Thanks Ollie."

Where is Apple Man to rabidly defend his brand and insult anyone who doesn't devote their lives to iProducts? Maybe he has not seen the signal for an Apple thread...

There's actually a guy developing an app for that. It's going to be styled like a ripoff of Twitter. It crawls through all the breaking headlines on news sites, pulls the keywords, and posts them to a stream on your phone with as the most important facts.

That would be BingeThinker and he is already here. You'll notice all he does is pop into Apple threads to rag on "fandroids". Apparently all that binge thinking caused his brain to liquify.

I think they're referring to Mr. Apple Benchmarks.

What I don't get is does the New York Times realise that its unquestionable loyalty to the maker of shiny toys and the publication of this sort of crap makes it a laughing stock and damages its credibility as a news source... or does it really want to be seen as being as reliable as Fox.

Holographic projection from your wristlojackamator.

What? Apple is proud of stealing its ideas from old sci fi Tv shows

Hey, if someone can create the technology from old sci-fi shows, that is one hell of an accomplishment. I could use a teleporter!
