Saw the ads during SHIELD. Didn't look the least bit interesting. Then again almost nothing on ABC does.

They should have gone with the installment instead of a one time payout.

It's a time warp! 30 years ago ABC ran Lottery! A few years back NBC aired Windfall.

My bet for the next to go is Sean Saves the World.  I couldn't make it ten minutes into the pilot before deleting it from my DVR.  There was possibly an interesting premise there, but the acting is horrible, the jokes fell flat, it's full of tired stereotypes and contrived situations, just bad all around.

I can only hope so. I'm tired of the promos for that show filling up most of the lower quarter of my TV screen during Parks and Rec.

Watched the first two episodes, liked it quite a bit, will admit that I don't have a clue where they were going with it for a full season.  Kinda annoyed that it's canceled.

Execs better not be touching Brooklyn Nine Nine.

The wife tried the Sean Saves the World. Just more of the same as far as homosexual-based tv, and relying on the W&G audience. Won't last the season. Just like The New Normal.

Brooklyn 99 has okayish ratings, don't expect a second season, though, unless FOX is desperate.

That's ok; B99 is no Reno 911, and FOX is FOX (not to mention not Comedy Central), so I don't expect a 2nd season unless it picks up phenomenally.  So long as there's a full season and no attempt at a cliffhanger to a 2nd, I'm good.

It's disappointing that this is what Samberg left SNL for. Much like Hader leaving, but being reduced to cell phone commercials. Not that Samburg is even close to Hader in talent, but jesus....

I'm surprised that the new Michael J Fox show wasn't first to go. Possibly the most painful half hour of television I've ever watched.

The new Robin Williams show needs to go away as well. Just not funny at all.

I gave Brooklyn 9-9 a shot. It tries way too hard. The 3 female characters and Joe Lo Truglio bring nothing to the table. When half the cast can be removed and the show wouldn't be affected, that's usually not a good sign.

I watched the premiere and it was a terrible terrible terrible show.

I hope Chicago Fire gets canceled next... They keep pushing it like it's great but it's terrible... The filming style reminds me of a soap opera where all the scenes are obviously on a set.. Nothing comes off as legit.. You have to really use your imagination to believe any of it is `real'.

I somewhat agree, but I think it could either drastically improve or become unbearably annoying very quickly. I like it so far, though.

Hader actually has a history of being a writer, specifically for South Park, so he didn't fail when he left SNL.

SHIELD is turning out....not good.  And that makes me sad.  Maybe it's the cartoony music over the action that feels out of place for TV?  I don't know how to describe it.

I really want to like it, I want it to succeed, but it feels like a SyFy show someone dropped in on ABC.

Hope they find their footing soon

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It got an order for more scripts, which is often (but not always) a precursor to a full season pickup. But it's still a long way from being renewed for a second season.

I think B99 has potential.  Samberg's character is coming off a bit too much like a douche, and they need to find larger roles for the rest of the cast members, but it could find some balance.  Parks and Rec and The Office had some balance issues early on.   B99 would work best as an ensemble show instead of as Samberg with a bunch of backup characters.

As far as the other comedy pilots go -

The Crazy Ones has a ton of potential.   Robin Williams and SMG bring a lot to the table, but again they just need to allow some chemistry to develop with the cast and find the balance with Williams' antics so that he doesn't cross the line from quirky and funny into annoying.

Mom could work.  Anna Farris and Allison Janey are rock solid, but the script is pretty typical Chuck Lorre fare.

Back in the Game has been surprisingly good, and fills the wholesome family-friendly niche pretty well.

We Are Men could either became incredible or go down in flames.  It's another ensemble show that's just going to depend on if the cast can gel together to make it work, but with Tony Shalhoub, Kal Penn, and Jerry O'Connell, there's a pretty good chance of that happening.

yeah, I know; but it's at least a good indicator that the show isn't quite as on the bubble as others have made it out to be. I'm not sure how Fox comedys generally fare, but it doesn't look like it's getting too bad of ratings.  though this article seems to indicate otherwise. Luckily, Fox isn't as cancel-happy as it used to be.

For me, it's the fact that it feels generic. No one, save for Coulson, is a character. They're tropes. The socially inept, geeky, non-American scientists. The stoic, tough as nails Asian (American) chick who, of course, can do martial arts. The hot, sarcastic hacker with a mysterious past. The too big for his britches, new generically handsome, young guy who needs to mellow out. No one has wavered from these tropes. So, no one has stood out and few like a flesh and blood person.

Coupled with the fact that the plot lines are rehashing of story lines that every secret agent series has done before.

Yeah, you have a series that isn't all that good.

Meanwhile, back on the ranch. I love Brooklyn Nine Nine. To me it feels like Scrubs but with cops. It just needs a little more heart like Scrubs and we are there.

It's a remake of a British show called The Syndicate (which is not 1/2 bad).

It focused on seven gas station employees from Queens who struck it rich.

So, like Clerks if they won the lottery, but without the clever writing.

The characters are ALL bad. I like Skye, and I do think she's got personality. The dude, not really. Fitz seems to be channeling the 10th Doctor. The Cavalry is cool. I have no problem with her knowing martial arts because that is her job, and also the white guy knows it. If she was just the pilot (like Wash in Firefly) but somehow knew karate, then I'd be pissed. She's not the pilot though, she's the gorram Operative in this universe.

feels very much like Parks and Rec to me; especially since its showrunners work(ed?) on P&R. Though I like the show now, I would bet Brooklyn Nine-Nine improves once it firmly establishes the characters.

speaking of P&R, am I alone in thinking the current season isn't all that great so far? It has its moments, but it feels like everything has long since been brought to its logical extreme, and now -though I'm loathe to cite TV Tropes- it seems like everyone is moving into Flanderization territory.

Some of the characters have hit the end of where they can do, but their roles are being minimized from what I can tell.  The Jerry-the-buttmonkey thing had gone about as far as it could go, so he's now a part timer, and Rob Lowe's character was getting stagnant, so he's leaving the show.  I thought there was still a lot of room for what they could do with Rashida Jones, but, c'est la via.

Tom's arc is now going to be about him growing up, his character has changed a lot since the start.  Andy has potential to go the same route, they'll need to do something with him.  April pissed me off in the last episode, it made it look like they were starting to temper her anti-social tendencies a bit, then they swung her all the way back again.

Ron has the married life dynamic now, and Leslie has the chance to become a bit more cynical in her new position.

There are places they can go, it just depends on if the writers are going to go there or if they're going to keep the characters essentially frozen in amber.

Are you crazy? Ron's journey to Scotland, Chris Bosh as a high school ringer, and the best moment, when Leslie gives her presentation to Kristen Bell about their impending bankruptcy; "Slide one: Well, well, well..."

Parks & Rec has been terrific so far. They hit their stride a couple of years back and still haven't lost a step.
